Exclusive: “For Every Mountain” & “If It Had Not Been…” – Amber Bullock

So since I’ll be eating obscene amounts of food tomorrow, I’m bring you these two treats a little early. We’ve been premiering new music form Sunday Best 4 Winner Amber Bullock for the last few weeks as we countdown to the release of her EP “Thank You” on December 6 and this week is a “twofer.” As you saw during this last season, Amber’s got a very unique and special way with a song. And what’s most noticeable about Amber is that although she has some vocal and stylistic similarities to Kim Burrell, unlike most singers today, I don’t think she necessarily gets her style from Kim. What I mean is, I honestly think she’d sing that way had there been no Kim Burrell before her. The way she sings is naturally in her and I appreciate that because there are a whooooole lot of imitators out there. So when listening to this first track, I was blown away by her interpretation. I never thought this CLASSIC SONG could be sung like this or even be re-arranged at all and still be good. Never crossed my mind. But somehow Amber found a way. Listen to her cover of “For Every Mountain” and tell me what you think. I won’t even tell you what she did to it, because I want you to have no preconceived ideas of what it is before you hear it.
But today’s exclusive doesn’t stop there. I also wanted to leave you with another interesting “Amber interpretation” of a classic song. Check out her version of “If It Had Not Been For The Lord On My Side.” (And tell me why almost ALL the lyrics to that song are in the title. Gotta love our ancestors. ha!)
Well, that’s it’s for me today and this week. (Well, unless news breaks that Amber Rose is getting installed as a deaconess at Lakewood Church or something….) See ya next week and Happy Thanksgiving Again!
