Vashawn Mitchell’s Live Recording

Sup folks. It’s an early day in Chicago and I’m excited because I’m in town for Vashawn Mitchell’s live recording of his new CD and I’ve got to say that from the looks of it, he’s going even further with this project than he did with Triumphant. Now I’m not just saying this because I’m a fan, or because he’s a friend of BET.com and the Gospel According To Torrence, and that I went to the last recording although all those things are true. Musically, it’s just THAT good and I know because I got the chance to preview the new music last night in his closed dress rehearsal.
For example, I’ve always maintained that a song must minister to the person/people singing it before it can effectively minister to those hearing it. And it’s clear that in preparation for this recording, Vashawn and his singers, band, etc. have had quite a few moments of intense worship but what was more interesting was their approach to them. During one of the last vocal rehearsals, Vashawn was very clear that just as the worship was genuine, spontaneous and unique in their rehearsals; he wanted the same thing to happen in the recording: “I know we’ve had an awesome time with this and God has really moved in our rehearsals but let whatever happens happen naturally. I want it to be authentic, not forced.”
Sure there are lights, a set, smoke and a host of other things that come with the “production” of gospel music but there is an honesty and pureness that you can just feel around the production of this recording that I think will make this one extra special. Not to mention that the featured vocalists on the CD are going to leave the people laid out under sheets in the auditorium. Israel Houghton and Kierra Sheard are sure to blaze like they always do but when I tell you that you’re not ready for what Diane and Fantasia Barrino are going to do… ——————-… oops, sorry, my mind drifted back to rehearsal and I fell out again. Ha!
If you’re in or near Chicago, you need to get here tonight but I know that’s not always possible so thankfully, the folks at VMan Entertainment are streaming the recording live tonight (April 30) at 8P/7C so you can be there. Click here to watch tonight but know this, you’ve got to log in early. Hint, hint, hint…. I promise you, it’s going to be good, if not, since me your internet bill or your ticket receipt. Ok, not really but you get my point. Ha! see you tonight
