New Movie: I’m In Love With A Church GirlPublished by Torrence Glenn on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 9:50 am.
From reality shows to radio and touring deals, gospel artists are stepping out of the box and doing big things these days and quite frankly I love it. Check out the trailer for I’m In Love With A Church Girl, which is produced by gospel/praise & worship artist Israel Houghton and Galley Molina. It stars rapper Ja Rule, former Cheetah Girl Adrienne Baillon, Stephen Baldwin and more. The theatrical release (that’s right, it’s going to be in theaters) on Friday, October 18.
Now to all my church dudes, don’t trip. I know we’ve all been there, the good girl won’t pay you any attention because she wants a “bad boy.” I already know what you’re thinking. Relax, relate, release! Ha!
Anyway, I also got a chance to speak with Galley Molina to get a bit more insight into what caused him to make this film. What you may not know is that this movie is loosely based on his life. I wondered if Molina was at all nervous about putting part of his story out there in movie form?
“Not really…. I mean I had to change a few things around for legal purposes and to also not glorify that part of my life or that lifestyle in general. In fact, in the movie he doesn’t go to prison and his friends do..when in real life I did the time. But the Bible says in Mark 5:19 “go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you”… God’s word is full of scripture that talks about being ready to give your testimony. So this is just me giving my testimony. In the early stages of this film our PR firm asked me just how much i was willing to show and tell… I said that whatever will show the power of God in this story is alright with me.”
I also wanted to know what Molina wanted to get from this movie. Was the purpose to inspire folks or convert people?
“I just want them to get that GOD is real.. That if He could use someone like me to partner with and do his work..To preach His word, to serve in His church then He could use ANYBODY. The benchmark and criteria for servant hood and sharing the goodness of God is a lot easier and tangible than people think.
And no I’m not trying to convert people. That’s God’s job… INSPIRE?…YES… I always say “Don’t talk about it…uust be about it”…… We have the gift and responsibility of some of the biggest platforms in the world…music/CD’s, film, TV, books etc…..So Israel and I just wanna use RGM-NEWBREED to create God honoring content and just let people see and hear it and let the Holy Spirit do the rest.. “
And then you know I had to know the thinking behind casting Ja Rule in the lead role. I was curious to know if it had anything to do with Ja Rule’s recent legal troubles/incarceration. You know, art imitating life?
“No, Ja Rule was cast and the film was shot and wrapped before his incarceration. He did have a pending case for the gun charge when we hired him. But I did research the case and saw that he didn’t brandish or fire the gun. I’m not saying that it makes his legal issues any less serious but if I was charged every time I used to carry a gun then I wouldn’t be here talking to you. People say ‘WELL JA RULE IS A FELON’ and I say “WELL SO AM I”…. The same blood that saved you and I saved him too…”
Well there you have it, this looks like it’s going to be good. Go see it on Friday, October 18. For more info go to the film’s official site!
