About Torrence Glenn

Torrence Glenn is a fast rising mainstream music industry tastemaker but a gospel music lover at heart and “arguably” a gospel industry insider. He’s affectionately been dubbed “Professor” by some in the industry, because of his work with teaching choirs at various gospel and church workshops, conferences, and concert events. Additionally, due in part to his role as a BET.com music development executive, he’s often sought out for his professional, personal, and musical opinion by personnel in the gospel and mainstream music circles. Torrence’s take on music, life and all else could best be described in one of his most overused lines: “Do you hear what I hear?”

You know what? I am rather disappointed at the shenanigans I experienced with Sundays Best. It is a farce. I like “Be Be” but, “Mary Mary” come off too worldly, especially the bright-haired one, and Kirk, he sold his soul a long time ago. It’s apparent that the world (BET) owns this show and they are hirelings that refuse to represent the Kingdom of God and its tenants. I am troubled by what I viewed, the entire process is flawed and in need of a make over. If you are going to seek to be vehicle by which, a prepared artist that lacks the resources, elevates his/her ministry, than promote that and do that! But, if your intent is to exploit people for ratings and somebody, anybody haphazardly, will be rewarded, than say that! There are quality gifts that did not see the light of day because of the disingenuousness of the process. You all have undoubtedly erroneously discourage someone into thinking this (singing) isn’t the will of God for them, because they thought you all were “real” and spiritual. Please be advised all responsible (producers, writers, cameraman, sponsors, host and judges) this was the wrong genre of music to use for merely a profit maker, you shall give an account. The lady with the speech impediment is “aired proof” that you guys (all involved) may be BETS Sundays Best; but are far from God best creation. Please repent and be restored.

Hey Bro Torrence: I watched Sunday Best three times yesterday. The first show was a rerun of last week and the the second two were the same. My choice of the Five BEST were: Clifton Ross, Jessica Reedy, Latice Crawford, Kalind Haynes and Zebulon Ellis -or- Jeff Spain (who could have taken his hat off! LOL. To my knowledge, Clifton Ross was not selected. What a shame!

Sooooo, 106 & Gospel was pre-empted????? What’s with that???

I originally coined this show at Sunday’s Mess, and have been inundated with calls from several people to tune in. I decided to give it a go this evening and discovered there is talent present but I personally know singers who could sing the same. The difference between those on the show and some of the greats I know is the anointing. This is not to slight anyone because it takes a tremendous amount of courage and effort to sing before the masses – so for those who are on the show keep singing. A part of me believes there are some good elements to this show, but I am conflicted due to my trouble with a competition and music intended to tell the good news. How can one effectively judge if one’s praise, shout, riff, low or high note is acceptable to the kingdom? There will always be a critic and this critique is simply my humble opinion. I do understand the desire to sing, and if I could be around music, producing, singers, musicians full-time I would love it, but I digress.

I would also like to share that I am a bit troubled by Kirk Franklin. He projects an air that is phony, contrived and inauthentic. It is almost as if he is trying too hard. When I hear Kirk’s music, it makes me want to know more about the author and his experience with God; however, when I see him on TV, it makes me want to change the channel – sorry but that is where I am right now. Be Be annoys me in many ways, so I will leave it at that. Erica (dark hair) seems genuine and a sweet spirit. Tina can seem a bit too much at times but also can be restrained and offer an opinion that seems honest. I’m certain that many people have shared opinions and this only a time to share mine. I wish everyone the best and certainly hope that those who are singing and judging understand that God is real and are working to fulfill their purpose in the kingdom.

Torrence,

You were right about one thing, Jessica Reedy was number one from day one. She is annointed and she has blessed me greatly with her talent, her praise, and her love for God. When she does win Sunday’s Best, I will be looking for her first gospel album and I hope to be the first one in line at the store to purchase it. She’s so beautiful on the inside and the outside. May God continue to Bless her and her son, and answer all of her prayers!
