Last night, we taped our 11th installment of BET’s Celebration Of Gospel and even as I type this I’m still “IN.” It probably sounds like we say it every year but it’s true, it was one of the best ever! The night was full of highlights and moments and the Celebration Of Gospel veterans and newcomers all tore it down. Here’s the rundown. Read the rest of this entry »

Sup folks. Just one day before the day which is before the day after the day that I have to repent and ask God forgiveness for my overwhelming participation in the sin of gluttony! Thanksgiving is tomorrow and I’ve already turned my mouth and stomach over to a reprobate mind because I plan to eat as if collard greens and mac ‘n cheese are the keys to the kingdom! Don’t judge me! Ha!
But yesterday I did the first installment of a “Thanksgiving Playlist” and a bunch of you hit on Facebook and Twitter to let me know that you were feeling itso now I’m excited to bring you part 2. Like I said yesterday, because Thanksgiving isn’t necessarily a biblical holiday, I feel like it kind got the short end of the stick on “music.” (lol) We skip right to the Christmas tunes! So why not put together a little thankful music to get in the THANKSGIVING spirit. Here’s part 2 of of the Thanksgiving Playlist. Enjoy!!! And oh yeah, have a happy and wonderful Thanksgiving! Hey folks, last night the 2 day memorial festivities for Bishop Walter Hawkins began with the memorial concert “The Man, The Music, The Ministry: A Musical Salute to Bishop Walter Hawkins” . I wanted to make it to Oakland to attend but prior commitments and logistics just didn’t allow it, but thankfully our good friend of the blog BJ Daniels was able to attend and was willing to recap the night for us for those who didn’t make it. As I’m sure most of you know, I’m pretty active on the social media platform “Twitter” and it’s proven to be a rather remarkable way to bring people together and share information. Although most of us were unable to be at last night’s concert, you were able to get some updates of what was going on from different people on twitter. For example, the program photo tot he right was captured and posted by gospel artist DeWayne Woods. And our guest blogger today, BJ Daniels was able to offer his recap to me via twitter when he realized that I wasn’t there. How dope is that!
BJ Daniels is an administrator at Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church, Washington, DC, graphic designer, former gospel radio announcer and gospel enthusiast. He also has his own blog, so you should check it out here!

Well last week the first half of the Sunday Best 3 Final 20 performed and now we finish up with the last 10. I guess a lesson was learned from previous seasons that it’s hard to narrow down finalists until you’ve heard them ALL! Read the rest of this entry »

Sorry folks, I’m in between 2 places and blogging from the Blackberry, so forgive any errors. Wanted to get you this info quick.
As you know, changes in Church leadership have been in the air. Well, as with Pastors, sometimes music leaders move around too!
Ebenezer AME church has tapped 2 UBER qualified artists I respect and admire to join their already mega talented music departments. Read the rest of this entry »

As I’ve mentioned before, this weekend I’ll be in Nashville for the 25th Annual Stellar Awards. And like I’ve also mentioned, like any other awards show, some the best events are the ones that happen before and after the actual show. For example, Clive Davis’ star studded (we use that term to much but it works) Pre – Grammy party is probably the biggest event that weekend outside of the Grammy’s. Well, when it comes to gospel and the Stellar Awards, the annual BMI Trailblazers Of Gospel Luncheon would be Clive’s equivalent! Read the rest of this entry »

So I’m in West Palm Beach, FL on business and wasn’t sure I’d be able to watch the show in time to blog. Thankfully, I caught the re-air. Now, please be patient and read through the entire post. I will give my honest perspective and comment on the top 10, but let’s be fair and give the 10 performers from Episode 4 their just due first!
