Hey folks, know it’s been a little while and I apologize but we lost a team member on this side so it took me a little while longer to edit our Bobby Jones Gospel Behind The Scenes footage. (It just is what it is and you know I just tell it.) But we’re back in business so let’s just catch up shall we. On the November 21 episode Karen Clark-Sheard and Dorinda Clark-Cole absolutely DEMOLISHED the song “He Knows” on the show and I got to sit down with them and watch their rehearsal. Watch! Sup folks! It’s almost Friday!!!! Yay, yay, yay! Ok, had to just get that out. Ha!
It’s been a rough week, not necessarily in a “bad” way but just busy, intense and FULL. I’ll be traveling this weekend and still “working” but I’ll be among friends and it’s still the weekend! Anyway, today’s “Thank God It Played” really “got me together” more than usual. I’m gonna say it again, my iPostle (my iPod) really is anointed. It tarried, got baptized or something because it knows just what to play and when ALL the time!
Well today’s track was right on time for me and hopefully some of you too. (A bunch of you have let me know that they usually are so I’m glad about it.) “Make Me Real” was a sleeper track on Dorinda Clark-Cole’s last Verity Records release “Take It Back.” (She recently signed to Light Records, remember?) Not at all sure how this song never made it to radio but hey, I dont’ work there. Dorinda is one of the most consistent and prolific vocalists in gospel but in my opinion, this is one of her most dynamic CD performances EVER. You get to really HEAR her voice on it. The choir backing her up is SANG-TANG-A-LANGING and the message of the song is one that has just been timely for me in conversations I’ve been having with friends lately. “Lord, make me real.” Read the rest of this entry »
Hey y’all. Exciting stuff! Just when I thought I was able to begin taking Donald Lawrence and Company’s “The Law Of Confession Part 1″ out of constant rotation (I try and make room for new stuff) he’s already hitting us up with some hot new music! KABOOM! If you follow Donald and some of his singers on Twitter or Facebook, we know they’ve been cooking up some things recently in the studio but I didn’t realize we’d get something this soon.
It seems that Donald is continuing to try to instruct and elevate our living in this new track similarly to the way he did on “The Law of Confession Part 1.” (Be honest, where else have you heard the terms “homologeo” used in a lyric!) Well, in “Your Righteous Mind” we’ve got yet another “sermon in a song” and at first listen I’m already digging it. Donald just has a way of making gospel “catchy” but complex all at the same time. Just the tag of “Let go of your natural thinking, EMBRACE YOUR RIGHTEOUS MIND” got me together! And then the way Dorinda Clark-Cole just comes in at the end and seals it? MY GOODNESS!!!!!
But enough about me, listen and tell me what you think? I know what I’ll be humming all day. Read the rest of this entry »
This one will be real quick until I have more time to talk to ya!
Dorinda Clark-Cole has just inked a brand new record deal with Light Records. I know there was some speculation about her deal with Verity and why she released her last “prayer EP” on an independent, etc. Well now you know. The scatting Clark Sister alto (or mezzo soprano if you will) we all know and love was making a move!
Light Records has been scooping up a lot of hot veteran talent recently and I kind of don’t think they’re done. First Ricky Dillard, now Dorinda Clark-Cole. Can’t wait to see who’s next!
Sup folks, today was LONG!!!!!
Meetings, appointments, interviews (stay tuned for Juanita Bynum), and a whole lot of other stuff. It was one of “those days.” You know where you’re working really hard, not too sure you’re getting much of anything accomplished because the minute you think you’ve crossed off something significant from your “to-do” list, you have to add 5 more things to it! One of those days where “thank you” seemed like a curse word to most people and “now” or “asap” are the words you hear way more often. Yeah, I’m venting and I’m allowed. ha! But whenever I wasn’t in meetings and was able to listen to music, I was (always, can’t stand but so much silence) and “It Will All Be Worth It” by Mary Mary came on and made everything better! Sup folks! Stellar Awards weekend in Nashville was a beast. It was literally non stop and I don’t think I slept the entire time. Well I’ve had some time to regroup and decompress. You didn’t think I was just going to go and not tell you about it right? I can be selfish and funny acting but Im’ not that bad.
My first major event of the weekend was the 11th Annual BMI Trailblazers Of Gospel Luncheon to honor Donnie McClurkin & Andrae Crouch at Rockettown. Not only was it my first event of the weekend but it was also my first BMI luncheon ever. After hearing about it for all these years, I was excited to finally be in the mix. As soon as I walked into the venue I knew that it was going to be first class all the way. Read the rest of this entry »
This post may be short. Because it’s really not about my “commentary” but about the song and the cause.
During this past Stellar Awards weekend, Kirk Franklin and a TON of the gospel artists in town came together to record a song to inspire, comfort and raise funds for the people affected by the recent earthquakes in Haiti. A gospel “We Are The World” if you will. I think the gospel industry ought to be commended for this effort and I support it fully and hope you will too. Read the rest of this entry »
As I’ve mentioned before, this weekend I’ll be in Nashville for the 25th Annual Stellar Awards. And like I’ve also mentioned, like any other awards show, some the best events are the ones that happen before and after the actual show. For example, Clive Davis’ star studded (we use that term to much but it works) Pre – Grammy party is probably the biggest event that weekend outside of the Grammy’s. Well, when it comes to gospel and the Stellar Awards, the annual BMI Trailblazers Of Gospel Luncheon would be Clive’s equivalent! Read the rest of this entry »
