TGIP: Brian Reeves & Heart After God

Published by Torrence Glenn on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 8:35 pm.

Sup folks.

How you doing? (No Wendy.) It’s just been a busy past couple of days of just working and letting the iTunes playlist do what it does and interestingly enough it played a new artist that I sort of met at GMWA in Cincinnati this summer back to back to back. Let me explain “sort of met.” The name of the group is Brian Reeves & Heart After God. (They probably don’t like to be called “hag” so don’t do it. You know we love to try and be cool and “pronounce” an acronym.) Well, anyway it was the last night of GMWA and we were at the big Macy’s Music Festival finale concert and were about to leave and I was hanging with two friends, one who’s primarily a mainstream online journalist and radio personality and another who’s one of the best and biggest publicists in the gospel industry. The concert was almost over so we were leaving a tad bit early to beat the crowd and go find some FOOD!

Well, anyway, Read the rest of this entry »

TGIP: “Get It Out” – Brandon Mitchell and Singers With A Purpose

Published by Torrence Glenn on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 7:14 pm.

Sup folks. I’m still in a churchy mood and today I spent some more time listening to music from participants in the Verizon New Artist Showcase at this years GMWA Convention.

On the last day of the showcase a “group” of about 9 people from Natchez, MS walked onto the stage (rather fashionably I might add) and I expected that they would probably be pretty good ….just because. You never know what to expect at a showcase and I was ready for anything. There was only one thing that threw me off when they opened their mouths. Somehow, aside from singing gospel music Brandon Mitchell and Singers With A Purpose also perform some kind of gospel ventriloquism. Read the rest of this entry »

TGIP (GMWA Edition): “Love” – The Bishop’s Choir

Published by Torrence Glenn on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 8:29 pm.

Well, it’s been a long few weeks. Last week I attended the Gospel Music Workshop Of America (GMWA) in Cincinnati, OH and as you probably know myself and some friends sat on the panel of the Verizon Unsigned Artist Showcase moderated by Neily Dickerson of the ND Co. throughout the week. It was a fun time and generally most of the artists and groups really brought it and I was able to give some truly constructive advice. (Some folks should have stayed home for real, but there’s always somebody walking around with a dream and bad hearing willing to try!) Read the rest of this entry »

Had To Share: Gospel Brat Pack Reunion This Summer?

Published by Torrence Glenn on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 7:03 pm.

Hey folks. This one will be short but if you didn’t go to the Gospel Music Workshop Of America (GMWA) last year, then you may want to get a plane ticket to Cincinnati, OH this summer.  Now this post will be what I call “good gossip.” It’s technically all hearsay and I don’t know if it’s completely true and the information is changing as we speak but I got it on good enough authority that I thought it was worth sharing. So if ANY of this changes, don’t go around saying I got the story wrong, ok? Thanks! Read the rest of this entry »

Well, it doesn’t stop there! I’m home for a few days but turning right back around to head to ATL Saturday, Aug 8th for Vashawn Mitchell’s “Triumphant” live recording.  Read the rest of this entry »

Sup folks. Busy week? Sure it is! This past Sunday Best season proved that not only were a bunch of you gospel fans, but artists in your own right.  Knowing that, I do my best to not only bring you info on music and artists, but the gospel industry as a whole.

So with that said, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Bishop Albert Jamison, the Chairman of the Gospel Music Workshop Of America (GMWA). Read the rest of this entry »
