Sup folks. Thanksgiving is only a few days away (and my stomach is shouting in advance, glory!) and although we know the food, family and fun are major parts of the celebration, we know the “intent” of the holiday is to to give thanks and show how grateful we are for all that we have. Although Thanksgiving isn’t necessarily a holiday that’s biblical and there’s some rather horrible history to the celebration (you know, the whole slaughter of Native Americans and such), I think it’s important to celebrate the sentiment more so than the history. Yes, you should be thankful ALWAYS but having a special time of year where you make it a major focus is rather great, at least to me.
So with that, today and tomorrow I’ll be sharing some of my favorite gospel songs of gratitude to help celebrate. So here’s part 1! Read the rest of this entry »

Not too long ago, I told you that there was talk of a possible Brat Pack Reunion Concert at this year’s GMWA Conference in Cincinnati, well Ladies & Gentlemen, it turns out I was right. (hehehe) Donald Lawrence & Co., Ricky Dillard & New G, and Hezekiah Walker & LFC are joining forces for a concert that I know will be a highlight of the convention. See the official flier below for the Brat Pack Reunion Concert present by Verizon’s “How Sweet The Sound.”
Now I’m warning you right now. Read the rest of this entry »

Hey folks. This one will be short but if you didn’t go to the Gospel Music Workshop Of America (GMWA) last year, then you may want to get a plane ticket to Cincinnati, OH this summer. Now this post will be what I call “good gossip.” It’s technically all hearsay and I don’t know if it’s completely true and the information is changing as we speak but I got it on good enough authority that I thought it was worth sharing. So if ANY of this changes, don’t go around saying I got the story wrong, ok? Thanks! Read the rest of this entry »

Finally, my recap on the Sunday Best 3 finale. I don’t know if you remember from last year, but I always get a little “emo” at the last episode of Sunday Best. We know it’s going to end but we still miss it and wish it wouldn’t. Well, here we go! Read the rest of this entry »

Sup folks, why didn’t anyone tell me I hadn’t blogged in a little bit. Y’all know I need help! Ha!
But anyway, I’m excited about what I’m sharing today. I’m unashamedly a CHOIR BOY! I love all forms of gospel music and music in general, but I’m a church kid through and through and there’s nothing like some good ole choir sanging. Choirs have somewhat lost their place in gospel music over the last 10 years as more and more groups/ensembles and solo artists have kind of been moved to the front of the line. I sometimes fear that the appreciation and legacy of the gospel choir is in jeopardy. There aren’t many new choirs putting out music on a national level. If you listened to gospel radio or gone through the shelves of the local record store, there wouldn’t be much there. Of course choirs like Hezekiah Walker and LFC, James Hall & Worship & Praise, and Ricky Dillard & New G are holding it down, but they can’t do it alone. JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise also do an excellent job of maintaining the classic choir sound while still sounding current and relevant.
So with that, I’m especially excited to feature the music of Patrick Riddick & D’Vyne Worship’s new single “Testimony.” Read the rest of this entry »

The final 20 have been chosen and there’s no going back. We are NO LONGER in audition mode. So let’s have a collective “woosah” shall we? Wooooooo SAHHHHHH (Oooh, I almost felt something on that woosah! Ha!) Read the rest of this entry »

Ok, so this one of my favorite songs from Hezekiah Walker & LFC’s latest CD “Souled Out.” It’s one of those “get me together songs.” The *whoosh* is strong and I was surprised and excited to find out that it had a video! If you knew already, so what, I didn’t! HA! Marvin Sapp is also featured on the cut and you KNOW he does his good singing!
Shout out to my buddy Tia Smith who’s production company “talentedSOL” Productions who produced the video. You know how we complain about “ghetto gospel videos?” Well, Tia and her crew are pushing gospel video production forward with excellence and I dig it!
Enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »

Sup folks. I kind of went on a twitter rant today about this topic so someone suggested I put it all in one place. So here goes.
There were a lot of excited new artists twittering and facebooking to the top of their lung fingers that “Ooooh, I’m nominated for a Stellar Award, go vote for me now!” Umm, I appreciate your excitement and all that, but when the Awards tape and they name the “nominees” from that podium, there’s a good chance your name will NOT be on the list. Sup folks. Sorry for being so late with this, but Sunday was long and Monday was no slouch either! But a promise is a promise, so here we go.

last week and now I have to show and prove. So here goes, but before I begin, let me get this out of the way. This blog is called “The Gospel According To Torrence” and with that I will express MY opinions, MY views and although gospel is in the title, nothing I say is law. So get all your little sensitivities and such in check. We all know there’s no perfect church and if there were one, it wouldn’t be perfect anymore once WE joined it. So with that said, be clear, I’m looking for the perfect church….for ME! Now let’s start the show! HA! Read the rest of this entry »
Sup folks. So I put myself out there
