Sup folks. Just one day before the day which is before the day after the day that I have to repent and ask God forgiveness for my overwhelming participation in the sin of gluttony! Thanksgiving is tomorrow and I’ve already turned my mouth and stomach over to a reprobate mind because I plan to eat as if collard greens and mac ‘n cheese are the keys to the kingdom! Don’t judge me! Ha!
But yesterday I did the first installment of a “Thanksgiving Playlist” and a bunch of you hit on Facebook and Twitter to let me know that you were feeling itso now I’m excited to bring you part 2. Like I said yesterday, because Thanksgiving isn’t necessarily a biblical holiday, I feel like it kind got the short end of the stick on “music.” (lol) We skip right to the Christmas tunes! So why not put together a little thankful music to get in the THANKSGIVING spirit. Here’s part 2 of of the Thanksgiving Playlist. Enjoy!!! And oh yeah, have a happy and wonderful Thanksgiving! Sup folks. We’ve got another brand new episode from the 30th Season of Bobby Jones Gospel on Sunday that features Sunday Best 3 Winner Leandria Johnson, choirmaster James Hall and The Voices Of Citadel, and Earnest Pugh. Of course we took our cameras to rehearsals and backstage to chat it up some of this week’s guests.
I caught up with Leandria Johnson and James Hall backstage and we had some fun. Watch and make sure you tune in Sunday to see the full performances. EVERYONE brought it! Read the rest of this entry »

Hey folks, last night the 2 day memorial festivities for Bishop Walter Hawkins began with the memorial concert “The Man, The Music, The Ministry: A Musical Salute to Bishop Walter Hawkins” . I wanted to make it to Oakland to attend but prior commitments and logistics just didn’t allow it, but thankfully our good friend of the blog BJ Daniels was able to attend and was willing to recap the night for us for those who didn’t make it. As I’m sure most of you know, I’m pretty active on the social media platform “Twitter” and it’s proven to be a rather remarkable way to bring people together and share information. Although most of us were unable to be at last night’s concert, you were able to get some updates of what was going on from different people on twitter. For example, the program photo tot he right was captured and posted by gospel artist DeWayne Woods. And our guest blogger today, BJ Daniels was able to offer his recap to me via twitter when he realized that I wasn’t there. How dope is that!
BJ Daniels is an administrator at Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church, Washington, DC, graphic designer, former gospel radio announcer and gospel enthusiast. He also has his own blog, so you should check it out here!

Sup folks, why didn’t anyone tell me I hadn’t blogged in a little bit. Y’all know I need help! Ha!
But anyway, I’m excited about what I’m sharing today. I’m unashamedly a CHOIR BOY! I love all forms of gospel music and music in general, but I’m a church kid through and through and there’s nothing like some good ole choir sanging. Choirs have somewhat lost their place in gospel music over the last 10 years as more and more groups/ensembles and solo artists have kind of been moved to the front of the line. I sometimes fear that the appreciation and legacy of the gospel choir is in jeopardy. There aren’t many new choirs putting out music on a national level. If you listened to gospel radio or gone through the shelves of the local record store, there wouldn’t be much there. Of course choirs like Hezekiah Walker and LFC, James Hall & Worship & Praise, and Ricky Dillard & New G are holding it down, but they can’t do it alone. JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise also do an excellent job of maintaining the classic choir sound while still sounding current and relevant.
So with that, I’m especially excited to feature the music of Patrick Riddick & D’Vyne Worship’s new single “Testimony.” Read the rest of this entry »

So I’m in West Palm Beach, FL on business and wasn’t sure I’d be able to watch the show in time to blog. Thankfully, I caught the re-air. Now, please be patient and read through the entire post. I will give my honest perspective and comment on the top 10, but let’s be fair and give the 10 performers from Episode 4 their just due first! Read the rest of this entry »
