Well folks, 2010 is coming to an end and we’re about to walk into a new year and a new decade and hopefully you’re excited about it. I generally don’t get that excited about the “New Calendar Year” because birthdays to me seem to be more significant in an individual’s life and are “technically” that person’s new year. But I understand the significance and value in celebrating our COLLECTIVE new year and since we’re not all born on the same day, this allows us all to celebrate a new beginning together. So for that reason and a few others, I’m pretty excited about 2011 and what it has to offer so I thought it would be a good idea to formally say goodbye to 2010 with another series of “Yes, No, Maybe?” since you guys seemed to love it so much last year! Ready? Let’s dig right on in. Read the rest of this entry »

Sup folks. Just one day before the day which is before the day after the day that I have to repent and ask God forgiveness for my overwhelming participation in the sin of gluttony! Thanksgiving is tomorrow and I’ve already turned my mouth and stomach over to a reprobate mind because I plan to eat as if collard greens and mac ‘n cheese are the keys to the kingdom! Don’t judge me! Ha!
But yesterday I did the first installment of a “Thanksgiving Playlist” and a bunch of you hit on Facebook and Twitter to let me know that you were feeling itso now I’m excited to bring you part 2. Like I said yesterday, because Thanksgiving isn’t necessarily a biblical holiday, I feel like it kind got the short end of the stick on “music.” (lol) We skip right to the Christmas tunes! So why not put together a little thankful music to get in the THANKSGIVING spirit. Here’s part 2 of of the Thanksgiving Playlist. Enjoy!!! And oh yeah, have a happy and wonderful Thanksgiving! So one of the releases I’m really excited about this week is the new CD from Jonathan Nelson and Purpose “Better Days.” A few months ago we premiered his first single “Expect The Great” on the blog and you guys went CRAZY for it. It’s a dope track and I have to admit, I’ve been listening to the CD for a few weeks now and so is the CD. Read the rest of this entry »

This post may be short. Because it’s really not about my “commentary” but about the song and the cause.
During this past Stellar Awards weekend, Kirk Franklin and a TON of the gospel artists in town came together to record a song to inspire, comfort and raise funds for the people affected by the recent earthquakes in Haiti. A gospel “We Are The World” if you will. I think the gospel industry ought to be commended for this effort and I support it fully and hope you will too. Read the rest of this entry »

Yes, you heard me, right. “The 2009 Soul Train Awards.” Centric, BET’s new “grown and sexy” sister network has brought it back! (it’s late and I’m too tired to find a more original description, but you get my point.)
As I was looking at the nominations, I realized that Gospel will be front and center at the awards show and wanted to congratulate the nominees. Read the rest of this entry »

Sup folks. I kind of went on a twitter rant today about this topic so someone suggested I put it all in one place. So here goes.
There were a lot of excited new artists twittering and facebooking to the top of their lung fingers that “Ooooh, I’m nominated for a Stellar Award, go vote for me now!” Umm, I appreciate your excitement and all that, but when the Awards tape and they name the “nominees” from that podium, there’s a good chance your name will NOT be on the list.
