2010 – Yes, No, Maybe? (Part 1)

Published by Torrence Glenn on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 11:15 pm.

Well folks, 2010 is coming to an end and we’re about to walk into a new year and a new decade and hopefully you’re excited about it. I generally don’t get that excited about the “New Calendar Year” because birthdays to me seem to be more significant in an individual’s life and are “technically” that person’s new year. But I understand the significance and value in celebrating our COLLECTIVE new year and since we’re not all born on the same day, this allows us all to celebrate a new beginning together. So for that reason and a few others, I’m pretty excited about 2011 and what it has to offer so I thought it would be a good idea to formally say goodbye to 2010 with another series of “Yes, No, Maybe?” since you guys seemed to love it so much last year! Ready? Let’s dig right on in. Read the rest of this entry »

RECAP: Celebration Of Gospel ‘11

Published by Torrence Glenn on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 12:22 pm.

Last night, we taped our 11th installment of BET’s Celebration Of Gospel and even as I type this I’m still “IN.” It probably sounds like we say it every year but it’s true, it was one of the best ever! The night was full of highlights and moments and the Celebration Of Gospel veterans and newcomers all tore it down. Here’s the rundown. Read the rest of this entry »

Had To Share: Celebration Of Gospel 2011

Published by Torrence Glenn on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 8:00 am.

It’s official: Celebration Of Gospel is returning on January 30, 2011 for its 11th year! Steve Harvey returns as host and this year’s talent lineup is fun and shall I say rather FRESH. There are some new faces in the bunch, some R&B legends as well as some amazing gospel mainstays that I think will provide a good mix that Celebration of Gospel strives for.  There will also be special tributes to Bishop Walter Hawkins and Albertina Walker in this year’s show!

But that’s enough talking; check out who’s performing and appearing! Read the rest of this entry »

Had To Share: “The One”- Shea Norman

Published by Torrence Glenn on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 4:03 pm.

Ok, so I’m EXTRA excited because I don’t know if you paid attention to when I first began my “Thank God It Played” series, the very first post featured Shea Norman; a gospel artist I thought was severely underrated who didn’t get his due. I still play his debut CD “My Heart Belongs To You” constantly to this day. His voice and “way” with a song are rather impeccable and I just don’t understand why he never took off.

Actually I do understand why it didn’t happen for him the way it could have and should have. Read the rest of this entry »

Listen Up!: Myron Butler & Levi

Published by Torrence Glenn on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 6:21 pm.

Sup folks, i’m really excited about today’s release.  It’s a GREAT couple of weeks for gospel music. Last week, we found out Marvin Sapp broke records and had amazing success with his new CD, “Here I Am.” Aside from it being the #2 album in the country and selling over 75K copies, it was REALLY good. (Let’s be real, everything that sells well isn’t always good!)

Well, today Myron Butler & Levi have released their 3rd CD, “Revealed… Live in Dallas” and I have to say, I LOVE IT! Read the rest of this entry »

Kirk Franklin & Friends – “Are You Listening”

Published by Torrence Glenn on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 11:51 am.

FightPic_BrickWallHandsInPockets

This post may be short. Because it’s really not about my “commentary” but about the song and the cause.

During this past Stellar Awards weekend, Kirk Franklin and a TON of the gospel artists in town came together to record a song to inspire, comfort and raise funds for the people affected by the recent earthquakes in Haiti.  A gospel “We Are The World” if you will. I think the gospel industry ought to be commended for this effort and I support it fully and hope you will too. Read the rest of this entry »

Gospel At The 2009 Soul Train Awards

Published by Torrence Glenn on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 10:29 pm.

Yes, you heard me, right. “The 2009 Soul Train Awards.”  Centric, BET’s new “grown and sexy”  sister network has brought it back! (it’s late and I’m too tired to find a more original description, but you get my point.)

As I was looking at the nominations, I realized that Gospel will be front and center at the awards show and wanted to congratulate the nominees.  Read the rest of this entry »
