Sup folks, I really should be in bed, but I’m kind of excited so decided I’d share this with you! In just a few hours, the Sunday Best 4 auditions in Los Angeles will begin, including the BET.com Digital VIP Suite where yours truly is the primary preliminary judge. Earlier today (Friday) I noticed that at around 10:30 this morning when I showed up to West Angeles Cathedral that someone was already in line. I said “hey” and kept on walking so that we could begin setting up. Well, I decided to go back outside and be generous. Take a look at what happened! Shout out to Peter Dixon! Auditions in Dallas were a huge success and overall, there were a lot of great and talented singers who came through the audition process, VIP and otherwise. (For all the info you need to audition in LA and Atlanta go to the Sunday Best 4 page here.) But although I did a version last year, after this past weekend, I think it’s time I updated it a bit. And by “it” I mean a list of tips, do’s and don’t for audition for Sunday Best! So no long intro, lets just get into it… Read the rest of this entry »

We’re getting closer and closer to Sunday Best 4 auditions and I’m so excited. One of the reasons I’m so excited is because the BET.com Digital VIP Suite is coming back for for a 2nd year. So for those of you who don’t know, here’s how the Digital VIP Suite Works…
You can find all about the regular auditions at www.bet.com/sundaybest (dates, locations, song list, etc.). Those begin at 7am for the general public and you go through a series of rounds and cuts to determine who makes it to the “Judges Round” with Donnie McClurkin & Mary Mary. Many people make it to the 2nd, 3rd or even 4th round and get cut before seeing the judges. But then there’s the VIP! There you can:
*Skip the line
*Audition away from the crowd with ME (Torrence) and my special guest preliminary judges (Dallas – Durward Davis, Los Angeles – Crystal Aikin, Atlanta – Isaac Carree/Ted Winn & maybe more..)
*But here’s the best part, we have the power TO ADVANCE YOU STRAIGHT TO THE JUDGES ROUND. (No waiting, no 3 and 4 rounds. If we say yes, you go!)
But there can only be 200 VIP’s in each city so in order to be one you have to: Read the rest of this entry »

Sup folks! For the last 9 months, I haven’t been able to go ANYWHERE without someone (or a group of you ) coming up to me asking whether Sunday Best was returning and if so, WHEN ARE THE AUDITIONS? I told you to hold tight and as soon as I knew something, YOU would know something. Well, that didn’t stop you guys from asking and my response remained the same until today. Why? Because now I know something! (A “little” something, but something nonetheless.) Read the rest of this entry »

It’s official: Celebration Of Gospel is returning on January 30, 2011 for its 11th year! Steve Harvey returns as host and this year’s talent lineup is fun and shall I say rather FRESH. There are some new faces in the bunch, some R&B legends as well as some amazing gospel mainstays that I think will provide a good mix that Celebration of Gospel strives for. There will also be special tributes to Bishop Walter Hawkins and Albertina Walker in this year’s show!
But that’s enough talking; check out who’s performing and appearing! Read the rest of this entry »

Sup folks, I’m really excited about today’s guest blog. I’m not just excited because Charmain Swimpson who was a Sunday Best Season 3 background singer, sings with Kirk Franklin and others is stopping by. I’m excited because this post isn’t about a Pastor scandal, a good or bad CD, or anything like that. Today Charmaine is going to share some serious info that could help save someone’s life. Let’s get to it.

It’s been a long time coming, but I knewwwwwww this CD would comeeeeee. And ohhhhh yes it did. Hopefully you heard that in your mind in a really pleasant key with a sick run at the end. HA! We’ve waited and it’s finally here! The debut CD “The Promise” from Sunday Best Season 2 WINNER Y’Anna Crawley is finally out! So you know what that means! It’s time for you to head out to Walmart, Best Buy, iTunes, Jenny’s Gospel Shack or whever else it is you get your music and pick it up.
Part of last week and this week I gave you a little preview of the CD and most of you seemed to be really pleased with the direction Y’Anna was going in. Now you can listen to the entire CD, all 10 songs. Now I admit, with the voice Y’Anna has, I was expecting more of a “churchy” record at first. She went a bit of a contemporary route but managed to keep the church in there at the same time. Listen to all of it and tell me what you think but I’ll let you know my favs. Read the rest of this entry »

Just a few more days and Sunday Best 2 Winner Y’Anna Crawley’s debut CD will finally be released. Hopefully you’ve been enjoying the previews to the CD I’ve been giving you leading up to it.
Today I’m really excited about this track because it’s another one of my favorite if not THE favorite. The song is called “You’re Still God.” Read the rest of this entry »
