Whew, a post not about Eddie Long! And we just bless GAWD! Ha! I’ll keep watching the story and will keep you updated though. Just saying…
But seriously, fielding the calls, requests and researching this week with that story has definitely given me a run for my money. Well, anyway today I was flipping through my iTunes playlist to try and alter my mood a little bit and I remembered this song. As you know, Tye Tribbett has a new CD coming out soon, so as a member of the “media” I was able to get a copy of the CD early and had been listening to this one song…. A LOT. Wasn’t a fan of the single “Fresh” and keep thinking to myself and asking why isn’t “this song” a single instead because THIS SONG is hot and it’s so relevant and appropriate for so many people for so many reasons. Mysteriously, it’s recently been released as a single so you’ve probably heard it at radio. (*deliberate side eye*) Read the rest of this entry »
Today marks the one year since the “Anniversary” of the death of the Chief Minister of Pop Music, Minstrel Michael Joseph Jackson. The saints love a title don’t we? Ha! But seriously, gospel artist or not, Michael Jackson was one of the most influential artists of all time and his influence didn’t stop with pop and r&b.¬† His music and career despite the the hiccups were just as relevant to those of us who proclaim to love gospel music.¬† So with that in mind, I’m reposting a blog I did right after his funeral close to a year ago.
What’s interesting is that it seems like it was only yesterday that we found out the news that Michael had passed; but at the same times, it feel like it’s been a good while since so much has happened in the past year.¬† The funeral, the movie, the charges, etc. It’s all been so much in so little time that I sometimes have to remind myself that he really is gone. I won’t put many disclaimers in this part of the post because I get that out of the way in the beginning of the repost, so I’ll just say “It’s my blog and I can blog what I want to!” (*In my best Cyndi Lauper voice.*) RIP MJ!

And the saga continues.  Or maybe not, not sure what to call it.
I won’t completely rehash the details of Tye Tribbett’s” sabbatical” and all that jazz. That was so 2009. But almost 6 months into 2010 and after disbanding his group/choir/ensemble/dance crew (whatever you want to call them) Greater Anointing (GA is probably how they were best known) in January to continue as a solo artist, it seems Tye wants to share the stage with another set of folks.¬† And from the looks of his latest tweets and video postings, he wants a NEW group of folks to do what the old one did…. *blank stare and huh? face*
Take a look at the video below to see what I mean… Read the rest of this entry »
Sorry folks, I’m in between 2 places and blogging from the Blackberry, so forgive any errors. Wanted to get you this info quick.
As you know, changes in Church leadership have been in the air. Well, as with Pastors, sometimes music leaders move around too!
Ebenezer AME church has tapped 2 UBER qualified artists I respect and admire to join their already mega talented music departments. Read the rest of this entry »
Going to keep it honest.¬† I was prepared to ignore this. Was pretty much over to tell the truth. But since the debate on The Ambassador, his¬† “moral failure” and my take on the situation became so intense on this blog, I kind of felt I had to address his recent statement of apology. I’m pretty sure you’ve read the statement on other gospel sites since we were all sent the same thing, but I’ll reprint it here. The statement is pretty long, so I’ll give my SHORT take on it after the statement.

Sup folks, so there have been a few changes to the performer line-up for Celebration of Gospel 2010 and you know I had to make sure I gave you the most up to date info, so you wouldn’t be looking at your TV thinking “umm, Torrence, what happened to?” or “Why didn’t you mention so and so would be there.”¬† Here’s the updated list.¬† The show is shaping up just nicely! It’s that time again! Celebration of Gospel (or COG as we call it in the industry, so lazy we are) 2010 is¬†taping in¬†Los Angeles, CA on Saturday, December 12, 2009! And another one bites the proverbial ‚Äúmoral indiscretion dust.‚ÄĚ ¬†This is beginning to get a little out of hand.¬† Gospel rapper Da Truth recently posted an apology to his fans on his website www.datruth.net stating that he had suffered a moral indiscretion and would be taking a sabbatical to get ‚Äúrestored‚ÄĚ or something like that.¬† Read the rest of this entry »
A few weeks ago I sat down with singer/songwriter PJ Morton to talk about his book “Why Can’t I Sing About Love” and his experiences being an R&B singer who also happened to be a Christian. We know how slightly (or not so slightly) closed minded and judgemental “church folk” can be, especially on this subject.¬† And although it’s 2009, I’m shocked (but not completely surprised) to see that some things never change. CNN also took notice of PJ and his work and profiled him this past Sunday on their “Faces of Faith” series. It was this piece that proved to me that we¬† have a long way to go, but before I explain, please watch the video. (It’s way shorter than mine, promise! ha!) Read the rest of this entry »
