Among the topics that Matt Lauer and Mrs. O discussed was her much talked about and highly anticipated childhood obesity initiative. The interview was shot in the White House Old Family Dining Room yesterday.

Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. will be celebrating his new PBS series, “Faces of America” which examines DNA from celebrities, politicians and public figures to determine their ancestry at The W this evening.
Prof. Gatesasked celebrities like Meryl Streep and Steven Colbert to give him a sample of their DNA, then sent it to genetic testing company, 23and Me to be analyzed for their ancestral lineage. Watching George Stephanopoulos interview Prof. Gates about the series on Good Morning America actually made me really interested in watching the series; which airs February 10th through March 3rd. Think I’ll send away for a DNA test from that company- I’ll let you all know the results.
Check out the video above to get a sneak preview of the series, or come to The W and shake hands with the man himself.
Henry Louis Gates, Jr. celebrates his new PBS series “Faces of America” will launch. Time: 6-9 p.m. Place: The W Hotel 515 15th St. NW

Thanks to our friends at DCCelebrity, we’ve spotted Joe Jonas walking around Capitol Hill in a three piece as we speak.
Joe, who’s one third of the famous, scream inducing boy band The Jonas Brothers looks to be taking just a leisurely walk. But we know better, if he’s in DC, than he’s got to be lobbying for an issue that he cares about to Congress. Keep you updated.

President Obama addressing a Joint Session of Congress
Don’t want to be depressed about the state of the economy by yourself? Excited to hear President Obama give his first State of the Union to a Joint Session of Congress? Want to discuss Mr. O’s expected proposal of a three year discretionary spending freeze with a friend? Or two? Wish you could be there in person, but know that unless you’re Janell Kellett, the Sun Prairie, Wisconsin Army National Guard Volunteer that President O hand picked to attend, then no dice. But you’re in luck!
I’ve listed the best, and most interesting State of the Union watch parties in the district for your pleasure. From bingo games, to open mics, to Rep. Joe Wilson impersonators, there’s something for everyone. Check it out.

For the Love of Liberty Screening Tonight
Often forgotten are the Black soldiers of the battles that shaped our country’s history. In Hollywood, war is sometimes ridiculously glorified, glamorous and often devoid of diversity. A claim that had directors Spike Lee and Clint Eastwood butting heads after Lee’s claim that Eastwood didn’t include a single Black face in either Flags of Our Father or Letters from Iwo Jima. I’d say one of the exceptions to this is actually Miracle at St. Anna, Spike Lee’s war film about black soldiers in WWII, which starred Michael Ealy, Laz Alonzo and Derek Luke. Hopefully George Lucas’s upcoming film Red Tails, about the Tuskegee Airmen (which also stars Michael B. Jordan, who is one of BET.com’s 21 to Watch in 2010) can be included in that list as well.
Well director/producer Frank Martin and co-producer Louis Gossett Jr. have done some to rectify the situation by bringing you the 40 minute documentary, “For the Love of Liberty: The Story of America’s Black Patriots”. The documentary examines not only the role of Blacks in wars, but the ”sacrifice and bravery of African Americans in U.S. wars or conflicts since the American Revolution”.
You can screen the documentary this evening at the Smithsonian American History Museum. Admission is free on a first come first serve basis. A discussion with director/producer Frank Martin will follow.
The documentary is hosted by Halle Berry, features an introduction by former U.S. Secretary of State and Army General Colin Powell, and is narrated by Avery Brooks. Tons of Hollywood talent lent their voices to the project, like Danny Glover, Eriq La Salle, Angela Bassett, Morgan Freeman, Mel Gibson, Susan Sarandon, John Travolta, and many other talented public figures.
Not in the area? No worries, the documentary airs on PBS, February 14th at 2:00PM.
