If you ever had a question that the culture of our White House has changed, you would’ve had your answer last night. Nostalgic tunes and tight harmonies reminiscent of a 1960s childhood wafted through the halls of the White House, pulsing from the East Room like the bass of a set.
As artists like Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, and John Legend took the stage to perform Motown hits, guests were no longer in the nation’s capital. No, they were taken back in time to Detroit street corners and barbershops filled with the sounds of “My Girl,” “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” and “Stop in the Name of Love.”
Artist from all genres were brought together to commemorate Motown music in honor of Black History Month. The latest installment in the White House concert series was probably the most soulful yet. Politicos like D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and CBC Chairman Emanuel Cleaver excitedly took on the concert. Barry Gordy sat smiling in the audience, beaming like a proud papa who’s seeing all his hard work come to fruition.
Nick Jonas performed “I Can’t Help Myself”; Natasha Bedingfield, Jordin Sparks, and Ledisi formed a trio to perform “Stop in the Name of Love”; and Smokey Robinson and Sheryl Crow delighted the crowd with their updated rendition of “You Really Got a Hold on Me.”
Jamie Foxx hosted the affair, setting the tone for the evening by performing his own rendition of James Brown’s “Sex Machine,” called “Presidential Machine.” LOL. He even suggested that Barry Gordy lend the administration some of his Motown money to decrease the deficit.
Obama ended the evening by saying, “To Mr. Barry Gordy, thank you for helping us dance in the streets.”
The concert will air on PBS March 1.

As Christmas swiftly approaches, the first family is once again swept up in a cacophony of Christmas tree lightings, holiday previews and do-gooding. They don’t mind of course, its all tradition. This Thursday President Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and their daughters will light the National Christmas Tree at the 88th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting.
They’ll join rapper Common, who is set to host the annual event on the Ellipse in President Park, Washington D.C. B.B. King, Maroon 5, Sara Bareilles and others will perform at the event that will broadcasted on public television stations December 10, and streaming live on TheNationalTree.Org on December 9. Looks like the Obama’s are ignoring all of the media fodder about them vacationing too much! They’ve been spotted out every night, enjoying that New England weather and their famous culinary delights.

The first night we saw President and First Lady Michelle Obama, they were spotted leaving Sweet Life Cafe in Oaks Bluff where they dined that night. Mrs. O dawned a black and white Narciso Rodriguez dress, and Mr. O wore one of his famously tailored suits.

The second night the Obama’s opted for a more casual dining experience and visited State Road restaurant; where Mrs. O wore a multi-print frock with leggings.
I’m sure paps will capture more images of the first couple, seeing as though the media is a bit obsessed with the personal life of this particular president. The Obamas will be vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard until August 29th.

Well (obviously) its official! Redskins saviorDonovan McNabb moved into his brand new $2.1 million dollar home in Great Falls over the weekend. He’s official a resident of the District. McNabb told WaPo’sReliable Sour ce that;
“I’ve always been active in the community wherever I’ve lived, and I’m looking forward to continuing that tradition in the D.C. area…buying a house and putting down roots is my first step toward doing all that…”
The new Redskins quarterback has already been ingratiating himself into DC social society. He attended the White House Correspondents Dinner where he snagged a autograph for his daughter from Justin Beiber. The QB is making plans to become involved with first lady Michelle Obama’s “Lets Move!” campaign as well.
McNabb’s already been practicing with the ’skins, but what’s on the top of his priority list?
“Being here in D.C., there’s only one thing I want to start by doing: Get an invite to play basketball with Obama and all of his buddies…”
Hear that Julianna Smoot? I guess you’d better get on it! We definitely want to keep the new QB happy.
Chow!

When she made the announcement in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building of course she did it in style. Mrs. O rocked a Thakoon Watercolor Gazar jacket complete with a matching blue top and navy pants. Our first lady is so stylish!
Want to mimick Mrs. O’s style? Well here’s a similar Thakoon Watercolor blouse to make your own. Enjoy!

President Obama took first lady Michelle Obama out for a night on the town this past Friday. Of course no date is ever normal when you’re the Obama’s.
When the couple arrived to Komi; a restaurant the Washingtonian dubbed as the ”Very Best restaurant in Washington”; they were greeted by 200 onlookers who burst into applause at the sight of the two.
Mrs. O’s ensemble included the ultra stylish Jimmy Choo Lantern pumps, and a VBH clutch. Yes, our first lady is very fly. The couple left the restaurant at 9:13pm according to White House Pool Reports (sheesh, stalker much!?).
Komi is located on 1509 17th Street Northwest; and serves decadent Mediterranean cuisine. I recommend trying the Japanese Fluke Carpaccio. The owner and chef is Johnny Monis. To learn more about the restaurant or check out the menu, visit their website here.
