Yesterday President Obama signed into law the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. First lady Michelle Obama came to the event, held at the Harriet Tubman Elementary School in Washington, D.C. The act will increase the number of children in school lunch programs by 115,000, (let’s hope that number grows), increase the reimbursement rate for school districts meal programs by six cents, and increase health guidelines for school vending machines.
Michelle Obama launched the Lets Move! campaign in February, 2010, hoping to combat the childhood obesity epidemic in the UnitedStates. The campaign aims to increase healthier food in schools, lobby for better nutrition labeling, and increase the physical activity for children. Congrats Mrs. O!

It looks like little kids realize that President Barack Obama needs a break – suggesting that a hot tub would be the perfect gift for first lady Michelle Obama to put under the tree. The first lady, Santa and the first pet, Bo, visited patients at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Dec. 13.
In keeping with first lady tradition, Mrs. O read the excited children, ” The Night Before Christmas.” Afterwards, she chatted with the patients, even seeking their baby-sage wisdom about what she should get the president for Christmas. One boy unabashedly shouted out, “Obama needs a new suit!” Which of course was met with uproarious laughter, followed by, “Barack Obama needs a hot tub!” When asked what she would finally wrap in a bow for Mr. O she smartly replied,
“I’m not going to tell you because it’s going to be in the paper tomorrow, and then he’s going to read it, and then it won’t be a surprise,” she said. “But first I have to see whether he’s been naughty or nice. I’ve been trying to figure that out.”
Of course I have to get you the lowdown on Mrs. Obama’s drool enducing caridgen, its a Merino Sparklegate Cardigan from J.Crew, which is of course now, sold out. Good luck on finding it, and my advice to you Mrs.O? Take out stock in the J. Crew company before it gets sold.

President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama hosted a Hanukkah reception in the East Room of the White House on Thursday, December 2. The menorah used in the celebration comes with a unique story. It was found caked in the dirt and mud after Hurricane Katrina, at the Orthodox Synagogue, Congregation Beth Israel.
Now let’s see what the first couple will do to commemorate Kwanzaa…ahem. Wondering where Mrs. O got that drool worthy blue sequined cardigan that she’s rockin’? For a recession friendly $1935, you can snag the L’Wren Scott sweater here.

First Lady Michelle Obama
And are we surprised at all? First lady Michelle Obama not only wields her social and political power to make changes to children’s school diets and fight obesity, but she does with awe inspiring effortless style. Yeah yeah, I’m a bit biased, where’s my objectivity right? But who can deny a woman’s intentions when she’s trying to fight a medical epidemic, and inspire kids to lead healthier lifestyles? Her Lets Move! initiative is moving me.
She shares Forbes’ 2010 World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list with Oprah Winfrey, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Lady Gaga and Beyonce Knowles. For the full list click here.

Looks like 2010 Wimbledon Champion Serena Williams is going to be sidelined for a while because of a nasty cut on her foot, ouch! The tennis star was suppose to join first lady Michelle Obama for interactive tennis activities with kids as a part of her Let’s Move! South Lawn Series. According to Williams reps;
“…the tennis star cut her foot and has been sidelined from playing both at the White House and in her scheduled World Team Tennis matches next week…”
Williams is “dissapointed” and will be replaced by World Team Tennis co-founder Billie Jean King.
The South Lawn Series features a range of events throughout the summer and fall to bring local children, sports leagues, community programs and coaches to the South Lawn to participate in sports, games and activities.
