November is the month for giving and have I got a gift for you! The first week in November is jammed packed with art, music and social events for the DC socialista…which means I will be all around town, being your eyes and ears into the DC scene. Lucky for you I’ve listed some of my picks for the week, and your attendance is required. Check it out.
November 2nd
- *Who doesn’t love Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band? They’re performing today at the Verizon Center (601 F. St. NW) at 7:30pm, tickets are still on sale
- *Signature Chefs Auction of D.C. to take place at the Ritz-Carlton Washington DC (1150 22nd St NW) featuring over 30 of Washington’s top chefs during an evening of culinary tastings, fine wine, and entertainment. Silent & live auctions of dining packages, hotel stays, & weekend getaways benefit the March of Dimes
November 3rd
- *In Conversation: Cate Blanchett, the Academy Award winner will discuss her life and career at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (2700 F St. NW) while in town performing “A Street Car Named Desire”
- *Project Runway Winner Christian Siriano will be at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (500 17th St. NW) to discuss his book Fierce Style at 7pm
- *Africare to salute six-time Grammy Award winner John Legend at their 2009 Africare Bishop John T. Walker Memorial Dinner at the Hilton Washington (1919 Connecticut Ave. NW)
November 4th
- *The Scurlock Studio and Black Washington: Picturing the Promise, an art exhibit showcasing photos taken by African American photographers the Scurlocks, which show Black life in the district from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. The exhibit takes place at National Museum of African American History and Culture Gallery, located in the National Museum of American History (14th St. & Constitution Ave.)
November 5th
- *Looking for something fun to do after work this Thursday? Well the Phillips Collection is hosting Phillips After 5 (1600 21st St. NW)…you can expect live music, DJ Todd Threats on the 1’s and 2’s, lectures, food & a cash bar. Not bad for a Thursday
- *2009 Knock-Out Abuse Against Women Annual Gala to be held at the Ritz-Carlton Washington DC (1150 22nd St. NW) featuring live and silent auctions and entertainment
- *20th Annual Fight Night to be held at the Hilton Washington (1919 Connecticut Ave. NW) . The event brings together 2,000 of the nations top leaders to raise funds for Fight for Children
November 6th
- *Blue based Grammy Award winning pianist McCoy Tyler to perform with the Howard University Jazz Ensemble at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts (2700 F St. NW)
November 7th
- *The Lombardi Gala at the Hilton Washington (1919 Connecticut Ave. NW) takes place tonight, the event features a cocktail reception & silent auction; a raffle that includes a 2010 Lexus automobile. The event benefit’s the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Research Center
November 8th
- *The Cinderella Foundation is hosting their annual fundraiser, “Fashion With A Purpose” at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Ballroom, (1331 Maryland Ave. SW) the event will feature Project Runway alum Korto Momolu
