Our Person of the Year
November 17th, 2008

BET.com has named President-elect Barack Obama as its 2008 “Person of the Year.” We have concluded that no other person has had a more profound impact on Black America. Not only has he inspired a level of enthusiasm unprecedented in recent memory – prompting people of all ages and races to register, vote and become politically active – but he has inspired hope in a political system that many had written off as aloof, ineffective and uncaring. Obama smashed through the color barrier, crushing McCain and his female running mate, Sarah Palin, among women voters, African-American voters, voters under 30, Hispanic voters, first-time voters and voters who earn less than six figures a year. In his historic victory speech, Obama told a crowd in Chicago of more than 125,000, “If there’s anyone out there who still doubts America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of democracy, tonight is your answer.” BET.com believes that Obama indeed represents the epitome of the dream alluded to by the founders. Do you agree that Obama should be the 2008 “Person of the Year?” Post your comment below.

President elect Barack Obama is the person of the year becasue he makes me belive in my dream that nothing is impossible, all of us should learn a lesson from this election that we can become whatever we want to be,
OOOOOH! definitly because 5 reasons 1 unlike Washington hes the first black president. 2 Hes shows so mush lovethan any other president has done before dignity verrry political
and the diameter of his enthusiasium expands worldwide with the effects of the enviorment. In a way hes making noncarbon industries and turbine engines+ fuel efficient automotives, and hopfully reducing local crimes.
I think 2008 is like Washinton all over again but this time A black person is controling america. Also to his kids OH MY GOD 2 black girls the firts ones to step in the white house I wonder did they faint when they firts saw their bedrooms!?
Yes , President elect Barack Obama is person of the year. He endured a
barrage of obstacles much like Jackie Robinson did when he became the
first black in baseball. He survived with style and class. Even after the
election is over some are still trying to say he is not a citizen. He has
earned the highest respect of the world. He should be person of the year
in all of the medium.
IAM VERY GLAD MY PRESIDENT IS BLACK BECAUSE NOW MR.KING CAN LOOK DOWN FROM HEAVEN AND SAY MY DREAM HAS CAME TRUE THANK GOD FOR A DREAM MY GOD KEEP ON BLESS YO AND YOUR FAMILY .
I Think Barack Obama should be the person of the year because he made history this year by becoming the first person of color to make it to the white house and by him accomplishing this goal he proved that anyone from any ethnic background can do anything they put they mind to.
MR king is looking down from heaven or up from that there place and saying I have a dream pump me obama.

HELL YES HE DESERVES IT!! I MEAN, WHO ELSE COULD IT HAVE BEEN? PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA IS A-OKAY FOR THIS THIS HONOR. HE HAS SHOWN US THAT HE IS DESTINED TO BE ONE OF THE GREAT LEADERS OF OUR TIME, NO MATTER BLACK OR WHITE. I LOVE MY PRESIDENT, AND I CANNOT WAIT TO BE AT THAT INAUGARATION ON JAN 20TH. IT’S GONNA BE CRAZY!!!!
A man, husband, father, son and leader of the people of the united states.
Yes, This is a great choice God Bless him and his family also the USA. for our first Black President.
~<>~OBAMA 08~>><<~
yes im so happy 4 obama to be our president. i love his view on what he is doing for collages.
Yes I do think that Barack Obama should be Person of the Year, because he’s a P.I.M.P
PIMP’s =
P= President
I= In
M= Mother-%#*@’n
P= Progress
and PIMP’s can make some damn change..lol “Yes we can”..
I’D LIKE TO SAY FIRST OF ALL THAT I’M A FIFTY THREE YEAR OLD BLACK MAN, WHO NEVER THOUGHT I’D SEE THIS DAY. WITHOUT DOUBT Dr. MARTIN LUTHER KING Jr.’s DREAM HAS COME TRUE. I COULD’NT BE MORE REJOICEFUL,THAN I AM AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE THANK GOD FOR PRESIDENT ELECT OBAMA , AND MAY GOD BLESS HIM AND HIS FAMILY.
Obama O8′–He’s the man for the JOB!!
This one goes to Poa. STOP MAKING EXCUSES AND GET YOUR A$% UP AND GET A JOB. CANT NOBODY GET YOU A JOB BUT YOU! AND YES I AM BLACK MY MANS BLACK MY GRANMOMS BLACK MY DADS BLACK AND UHH WE GOT JOBS! THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHAT NOT MAKING EXCUSES GET YOU.
IF OBAMA SAID, WELL NOBODY REALLY KNOWS ME HILARY AND AND MCCAIN HAVE MUCH MORE TO OFFER AND ARE MORE POPULAR TO POLITICIAN THAN ME” HE WOULD HAVE NOT WON. HE WENT HARD TO WIN, WITH THE MORE SWAGGER IN CONFIDENCE I HAVE EVER SEEN THEN IN SOME OF YOUNG PEERS THINKING THERE COOL AND BLAMING OTHER FOR WHY THEY DONT HAVE A JOB!!
First of all yes i am very happy tat Obama is our President. As a first time voter i feel like i helped make history. On the other hand I am so tired of people and there excuses “THE WHITE MAN IS THE REASON THE BLACK MAN DOESNT HAVE A JOB” That is bull****. Obama cannot get you a job only you getting of your but can get you a job. I am in college and have a job an have been doing so way before the President was black. I am happy that Obama is making people more confident in getting up an dong something with their lives, but they have to want it too. THATS THAT! I will be at the anagoration (might be spelled wrong) I am very excited!!!!
Yes I Agree, Yes We Can, & Yes We Did
Yes, indeed! Mr. Obama is without any doubt very eminence. Person of the Year belongs to Barack Obama, but know that we all deserve a piece of the title, you see; Dr. Martin Luther KIng had the dream and the vision and we all made it happen. God Bless America!
