Despite having a Black President, racial differences still exist. Despite Black political, economic and social gains, racial disparities between Black Americans and Whites persist in just about every measurable form, reports The Associated Press. For instance: A typical Black household makes just 62 percent of the income of a typical White household – a gap that has changed little in 30 years, the AP found. In 2007, the median household income was $33,900 for Black households and $54,900 for White households. Blacks are nearly three times as likely as Whites to live in poverty. In 2007, 24.4 percent of Blacks had incomes below the poverty line, compared to 8.2 percent of Whites. Life expectancy among Blacks is, on average, about five years less than for Whites. In 2005, life expectancy at birth was 76.5 years for Black women and 80.8 years for white women. Life expectancy was 69.5 years for Black men and 75.7 years for White men. Blacks are less likely to have health insurance than Whites. In 2007, 19.2 percent of Blacks did not have health insurance, compared to 10.4 percent of Whites. Blacks are less likely to have college degrees than Whites. In 2007, 31.8 percent of Whites 25 and older had college degrees, compared to 18.5 percent of Blacks. And Blacks are more likely than Whites to be sentenced to prison, even though prison rates for Blacks have dropped in recent years even as they increased for Whites. In 2006, Black men were imprisoned at a rate of 3,042 per 100,000 residents, compared to a rate of 487 for White men.
So, what else is new?! In fact, it may just get worse. Let’s just wait and see how things fall out.
President-elect Obama can make some changes and improvement, but it is unfair to expect him to solve everything.
I agree DC. The man isn’t even in office yet… The title of this article is just ridiculous. You act as if the day he takes office, the sky is gonna open up and there will be heaven on Earth. Let’s be realistic. It doesn’t work like that. By placing such expectancies on President-elect Obama, you are only setting him up for failure.
Great points by all but I believe that not only is it not fair for people to expect Obama to change things for us, I actually think that things are going to be even HARDER for us. Why? Because he has achieved so much that is going to raise everyones expectation levels of us to an all time high. So it is even more imperative that our children do well in school and not just get in college, but graduate!!
During one extremely cold(10 degrees below) day a man was walking in the woods & found a rattle snake, practically frozen to near death. He took the rattle snake home with him, fed & nursed the rattle snake back to health. After the rattle snake recovered, it bit the man, to which the man asked the rattle snake “why did you bite me after I nursed you back to health?’ The rattle snake replied, “don’t be surprised, you knew that I was a rattle snake to begin with.” Hence, inspite of the fact that President Barack Obama is the Commander & Chief(Thank GOD), amerikkka is still & will always be a racist country, & never ceases to amaze me how dumb negro(need to grow)people can still be easily deceived that racism doesn’t exist. WAKE UP NEGROES(need to grow), although all white people are not racist, the ones who run & control amerikkka are, i.e. the ones who control the economy, politics, judicial(what a joke), & especially the racist police departments of amerikkka. Once again, to quote actor Laurence Fishburne’s character in the Spike Lee movie “School Daze”, dumb negroes, “WAKE THE F@CK UP!!
I also agree w/DC. Our next President isn’t even in office yet, and we are already trying to pile onto his shoulders ALL of the injustices of the past. Yes, his example will make some changes, but it is OUR responsibility to take up the mantle and “JOIN HIM” to make changes ourselves. I’m really impressed with how the writer took the time to write such a well researched article, but it was a COMPLETE waste of time … ’cause we already knew this!!!!!

After President-Elect Obama, the racial differences will still exist. Although it is possible to change that and truly make this nation a better place for all Americans (specifically Black and White Americans), Obama will not make those changes. “Change” is just that old Democrat mantra that people have been fooled into believing. Our new President-Elect is just a puppet for his masters in the DNC, an Uncle Tom for Planned Parenthood and a house n*gger for Nancy Pelosi. He’s not the Great Black Hope either.
He is not the President YET! Will you let the man get into the White House so that these things can be addressed? “Be anxious for nothing, but by prayer and supplication make your request known unto the Lord!” Mr. President ELECT BARACK OBAMA keeps saying he is not the President and there is only one President and that is Bush, so be patient people…CHILL!
He’s going to be the President of the United States of America, not the USA’s moral councelor. It’s going to have to take us as a people to band together and make a difference in racial injustices, just as our elders did just a few short decades ago.
This does not include Just African Americans but Hispanic Americans, Middle Eastern Americans, Asian Americans, and some Caucasians. There are some “white folks” that have “Quaker” blood and those are the ones that has helped our people out a lot over the years.
All people of color need to come together to make a change because we are hated just the same.

I fully concur with the comments of Kirk C. Odems. Free your mind and your behind will follow. Any individual who believes that having a man of color in the Oval Office will led to the eradication of a white supremcacy foundation that America was founded on is insane. Obama is just another president-elect in an oligarchy, which is the rule of the many by the few. Crtical thinking is the key. Rhetorical phrases will only push us deeper into the ever-approaching abyss. How long does it take for the average American to realize that he/she is not part of the ruling class in this country? We are just the sheep or the cogs in the system that feed the financial needs of the ultra wealthy.
Don’t feel bad guys, I get degraded sometimes too. I live in the trailer park and be called “white trash whore” by some people.
CHANGE includes all of us!!! change can try our patients , nevertheless change is what our ultimate goal should be. There is no one under God’s green earth that can’t find something to change about themselves. Let President elect Obama have his time, the 20th is fast aproaching, all eyes are focused on this wonder. At this time of Thanksgiving I really am greatfull for all that has been revealed in this election. Truth can keep a lump in your throat, but a little 7up and it can eventually be swallowed. No one likes to be hated, but in this life I have learned that suffering is part of the course ! (Romans 8vrs:18) So for those of you who are anxious, follow the instructions written above. I am greatful that 08 was as interesting as it was . It reveals to me 09 will be just as interesting if not more.
