‘Jena Six’ Teen Shoots Himself
December 31st, 2008
Depressed about yet another negative media blitz, one of the teens convicted in the infamous “Jena Six” case shot himself just days after being arrested on a shoplifting charge in Louisiana, police said. Mychal Bell, 18, shot himself in the chest with a .22-caliber firearm and was rushed to the hospital Monday. “I think he was upset over the incident … and didn’t want to be in the news again,” said Monroe Police Sgt. Cassandra Wooten. Bell was first cast into the national spotlight in 2006 when he was one of six Black teenagers facing attempted murder charges after an altercation with a White classmate in Jena, La. The charges for all of the teens were eventually reduced, but the initially harsh prosecution triggered cries of racism and sparked a mass march of 20,000 activists on the tiny, mostly White Louisiana community. Bell’s latest brush with the law occurred on Christmas Eve, when he was arrested and booked on charges of shoplifting, resisting arrest and simple assault, police said. Police say Bell tried to steal some shirts and jeans from a Dillard’s department store and that he ran when a security guard and off-duty police officer tried to detain him. They found him hiding under a car, and when they approached him, he “swung his arms wildly” and struck the security guard with a glancing blow, according to a police report. He was freed on $1,300 bond.

Shut the hell up!!!!!!!
Let’s look at the reality of the Jena 6 debacle. (6) country boys get charged with touching a precious white-boy. We all the know the consequences for touching a precious. They got away from the usual punishment. Then comes the support of the “safe negroes”(who only demostrate when white-folks says it’s alright!) Now, after the media circus left that “red-neck” town, they left those families to fend for themselves, and we all know that blacks don’t stand a chance against the ruling class.
Now reality have set in on those country boys. (Take your lick, is the motto of
the real) A bunch of my comrades took that journey in support of those country boys, but I stayed at home. I know first hand the repercussions of touching a precious. The Jena 6 and their families still know, but because of the media circus, they got caught up in the hype!!! Well, what makes you laugh/smile(media coverage) will make you cry/\.
God bless our young beautiful BLACK MEN ! ! ! ! !
Wow! This here just bring pain to my heart. It’s even more painful to see one of the ignorant comments that someone posed. In a situation such as this, you should look past the ignorance and take this more seriously. I send my condolences. May his soul Rest.In.Peace.

~a praying woman~
i know it seems hard, living as a young adult in these times. But we ALL do make mistakes [ALL]. We just have to learn from them and try to progress. Yes, he made a stupid decision, but we cant knock him for that…I mean this young man tried to take his own life–thats serious. Where would he end up?
Instead of criticizing, try to help out, and pray for him and his family. Wouldnt you want someone to do the same for you?….i know i would.
This is Very Sad ! No one can Judge Anyone Our Father In Heaven Is the Only one to Judge us and even tho we do things that we may regret.. He still Love us and forgive Us…. So No one can Judge this Young Man Until you walk in His Shoe’s and Let’s see How you can handle what he’s has been going through or feel. My Heart goes out to the Family and My Prayers, I Pray that God Give Him and the family a Peace of mind……God Bless them All.. Love ya ur Sis.’ D ‘
i know a lot of people are saying that this was stupid and all the rallying that was done on jenna six behalf, we fail to realize that this young man is in alot of pain, and he still need our help. if we can’t contribute anything else, please contribute kind words and holy hands in prayer for this young man, and his family, after all he’s one of ours. the human race. peace be still
This is the sad reality. My prayers are extended to him and his family but let’s face reality people. When we (African Americans) are faced with racial injustices, we are quick to rally and demand that things be made right. Mr. Bell was dealt an unfair hand during the Jena 6 incident but rallied above and came through it victoriously. We as a people have not learned to accept what God has given us. He should have known better than to try and steal anything. It is morally wrong and now all the support and prayers and justice he received then seems but a blur in light of these most recent events. We tempt fate much too often and eventually it catches up to us. He didn’t have a problem being in the limelight when he was demanding justice. He apparently has not been taught that you take the good with the bad no matter what the consequences. I am not trying to be insensitive but if we (the Black community) would stop making light of serious situations and teach our children right from wrong, things like this would not continue to plague our yout. Be blessed!
Kazmere u just wrong for sayin dat…. he waz goin thru a lot and i can understand why he waz so stressed out n my prayers go out to his family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS ALL SO SAD, EVEN THOUGH I DON’T KNOW MUCH ABOUT HIS BACKGROUND OR ANYTHING I HOPE EVERYTHING WITH HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE KEEPING HIM IN THERE PRAYERS. GOD BLESS!
The fact that the young man was trying to steal clothes, is heart breaking in itself. Damn times is hard for everybody, my prayers are with that young man
Dang Micheal we stood in the hot sun for you and walk through terrible stares just so we can see you free, and the media turned you into a monster. im a sophmore at Macon State College in GA we raised over 1,200 dollars twards your bond,at least thats what we thought we was raising the money for. also i blame every one who put him down after he had those naked photos of him in the money we raised on myspace, let the boy be free and do stuff young boys do, this stealing is the media’s fault going to make the boy take his life for crist sakes, he already was feeling bad before and now look. I Love you Micheal Bell and Im keeping you in My Prayers.
