7th-Grade teacher to students: Obama is a ‘N’-word. Angry parents in the northwest Florida community of Marianna want a middle school teacher fired after he put the “N”-word on the board to describe Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama. The Marianna Middle School teacher, Greg Howard, is now serving a 10-day suspension after writing an acronym on the dry-erase board on Sept. 26: “C.H.A.N.G.E. – Come Help A N*gg*r Get Elected.” But many parents want the 17-year teacher fired. The seventh-grade social studies teacher’s class has 17 White students, six Black students and one Asian student. Initially he was suspended for the day without pay, but that was elevated to the 10-day punishment. He must also write a letter of apology to students. “We feel like the punishment is sufficient,” Larry Moore, superintendent of the Jackson County School District, told The Detroit Free Press. “We did not feel he had to be fired.” NAACP officials say they will reserve their actions in the case until their investigation is complete. Audrey Wad, who has nieces and nephews at the school, didn’t need any more information before expressing her outrage. “To me, it’s hurtful,” she told the Free Press. “The idea that he would impose his political opinion on the children is wrong to me. That’s where he crossed the line.”
I think that the teacher that had made that stupid mistake SHOULD pay for his actions. Yeah, he did it to be funny, but his students are 7th graders. Not adults. And even that, what he did was said was PURE RACISIM. call it what you want but I have heard that before and it is no matter what tense or matter or emotion you are feeling at that time, not right for ANYONE TO SAY THAT. I am puerto rican and I know it doesnt matter but like when I heard that a teacher had did this I was SHOCKED! I was like OMG….How could he say something like that or make it a teaching lesson. This guy should be either expelled or fired! Because like that teacher a couple of years ago had said to a student and also on T.V News the “N***A” word they only suspended him. It seems like people do not care and it makes it look like it is still ok to call people by racist names and it is not cool. But wait! say something about a white person an all hell breaks lose. You know so is this America we call it really free and fair? I dont think so! And teachers ask for more money! For what??? so they could buy cut out boards of minorities and start picking out PHYSICAL & COLOR differences from white people? THIS IS INSANE! RIDICULOUS!!
Fire the teacher and the superintendent.
He should not be allowed to teach anywhere in the US!
i was reading all the coments,we blacks do not stoop to his level an say hurtful thing about people .yes he was wrong about what he said and done.an he will pay he is just one person, i am upset with the school,were the school thinks that it is not a big deal.a civil suit is waiting to happen. we will overcome.

amn that teacher was wrong for what he said because that is not called for man all im saying is obma is coming man stop bein man that he is going to change history and if obama needed help he what have just said every one out there vote for me so that i can change how you fuction better yet how we function in this world together as one big family
To set the records straight…..in the country where I am from what Americans call the ‘N’ word and think it derogatory, we consider it proud to be a ‘NIGGER’ because the word is simply a derivitive of the word ‘NEGRO’. The impression I get is that this teacher is using it in a racial derogatory format and therefore that’s disgusting. Well go ahead and call us “NIGGER’ (negro), we are black and proud about it and Barack Obama will be a proud black ?@@$~? (negro) for all Americans.
HOW DARE THAT TEACHER MADE A STATEMENT LIKE THAT ! I ARGEE WITH ALL OF THE OTHER PEOPLE ON THIS WEBSITE. HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED! AND, HE NEEDS TO APOLOGIZE NOT ONLY TO THE SCHOOL . BUT. TO THE STUDENTS AS WELL.
Ok. Now lets look at this another way. Had a black teacher put the word “craker’ or “honkie” on the board to describe Mc Cain how fast do you think that teacher would have been fired? No questions asked he would have been out of there.
i feel that this man should be fired and that racism should have zero tolerance in our country’s educational system….by keeping this man as a teacher is showing the wrong type of role model for our children….we are only one color under GOD”S heaven….they also need to put GOD back in our schools and This country will come out of its economy’s crisis when OBAMA is president…….
First and foremost I would like to thank God that I live in time I live in because Lord knows I could not have lived back in 50’s and 60’s when racism was realy bad. Now I agree with everyone that has said this teacher needs to be fired. For those of you who don’t know, the real meaning behind @*#@$% was to degrade black people. @*#@$% was used saying that black people were ignorant, ghetto, loud, dirty, uneducated, and just down right low class people. I have never liked the use of that word in any situation. THat’s why I detest the use of “nigga” because it’s just another way of calling your so called friend or “brotha” ignorant. ANyways, back to the teacher, he had no right standing in front of a group of 7th grade children and calling Senator Barack Obama a @*#@$%. Like so many of you have stated, if this school district doesn’t fire him, they are just as racist as that teacher is, and I’ll add just as ignorant. I am actually a member of NAACP and I know how and what they have to go through in order to obtain justice for such cases. NAACP has been around for 100 years bringing justice not only for blacks and other minorities, but for all who come to them with any racial, social, political, or any other injustice acts. ANother thing, this teacher is seeing the beginning of a change that has long awaited it’s time. Like him, a lot of people that have been used to the same old white men in office are trying to put down Senator Barack Obama just for the fact that he is an intelligent, well raised, well educated, strong, black man that is coming to make a change.
it’s still racism goin on in the south… cause when i was in high school we had all white teachers and no blacks i thought that was wrong… but it will always go on..
hmmmmmm………. what is there to say it is the true thoughts of the white supreme thinking american………….. my grandfather a Black Minister who was blessed to see 104 years before he passed advised me of the white american……….. he said Son to the white man, a Black man will never be thought of as an equal, because of the force slavery of the black man, Once the master never an equal……….. so when you look at the actions of the Government who were force to place necessities of Laws such as the right for an education, the right to vote, the right to purchase a home where you wish to be put in place so that the Black man and other minorites be respected……… if this was really a FREE country, why would these LAWS be a necessity…… so as a Individual demand your respect, but expect nothing else from an individual who shows his ………….. well hopefully you get the point.
*Tell the so call superintendent to fire the teacher. If he or she want fire him, I say fire both, the teacher and the intendent b/c if it was someone white running for president and a black teacher said something close to that, the teacher would be gone no questions asked!
If he were a black teacher saying the same thing but in the direction of Mccain or any other white leader, he would have been fired immediately. Fire his redneck, ignorant and unthoughtful ASS!
Freedom of Speech but not the right to teach! Politics has no place in the classroom! At all! Separation of school and state.
I called the school and left a message for Connie in Administration to call me back with Larry Moore’s (the superintendent) phone number. I am going to call and verbally complain to Larry Moore because this teachers mentality is unacceptable – and cannot be tolerated. I hope that others will do the same.

This so called teacher needs to be fired and should not be allowed to teach in this country EVER again!
Doesn’t he think we have been through enough…when i say we i mean the people of different colors and religions beside caucasian. If I was a mother and my child attended this schhol. I would think more out of this so called educational and free-spirited enviornment,that others call school.But some people can’t sayt anything or tak and kind of uncalled for stuff about this man,because all races call of other races something that is uncalled for. All races in this world are disrespected and umderestimated.
HE NEED TO BE FIRED THIS WOLRD IS STIIL THE SAME A LITTLE.
