First of all. there is no excuse for this action by anyone of any race. For this “one”–and I am referring to the teacher–”one” being a descriptor that McCain has used to negatively refer to Obama–For this one to be so negative toward African-Americans is no surprise. He was just brutally honest about it, but he did it in front of minors.

Fortunately for this teacher, he has the complexion for the protection. It is interesting how more than one decision had to be made about his teaching status. The thinking process was, hmm…let’s suspend him for a day. Then as more complaints came in–and they should have–the next decision was let’s suspend him for 10 days. The biggest joke; however, and a slap in my face as an educator without the complexion protection is that he has to write a letter of apology! He is not a new teacher who lost the handle. This is an experienced, card-carrying, obviously insensitive, and dare I say bigoted teacher who displayed his beliefs publicly. He is not a child. Why is he getting a child’s punishment? This is ridiculous. It is time for a brother with intelligence to get into office of the president so there can finally be zero tolerance for racism.

I think it is a sad shame that the teacher didn’t get fired. They were talking about pushing federal charges against some college students that took a replica of Obama and hung it from a tree, put the only thing they can do for this situation is a ten-day suspension. I think the Florida school district should be under some fire now, because it seems that they have a lack of consideration for their students of color. I mean what person, child or adult, would want to respect, let alone be taught something from a person that obviously has no respect for them. Personally, I think the black students and parents should have got together and protested the punishment/return of the teacher. I also think that as long as the only thing these kind of people have to face is a ten day punishment that we’ll be seeing more behavior like this, especially as we get closer to getting Obama in the White, I mean Black House.

This shouldn’t surprise us at all, even though this is 2008, I always say that people are still going to be people, good, bad, and the ugly. We yet have institutionalized racism, as this very well points out. We’re making the case that we are trying to bring democracy to other nations around the world, but look at what’s going on here in the USA. It is a sad state of affairs. We need to monitor from this point on all teachers in America in the class rooms.

As crazy as it sounds, this teacher SHOULD NOT and I repeat SHOULD NOT be fired. It would be a blatant violation of his First Amendment rights. Now is he ignorant for the comments he made, HELL TO THE CAPITAL YES. He should not brought his personal feelings into a clasroom setting. That is a moral problem. However, this is not a problem worthy of ultimate termination. If he did use racial slurs against his students, then that would call for FIRING, but he made a statement about an individual who is not even a part of the class and that was just RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. I am NOT encouraging racist comments, but termination for name calling should be honored both ways.

Last week C.H.A.N.G.E was being texted from state to state and being a black person receiving these texts from other people, It was clear to keep this text going and at the time everyone was on the TEXT BAND WAGON and kept it going I don’t know of anyone who hadn’t white or black that hadn’t got that text message and the simple fact that every last one of them will and are going to vote for Obama kept that text going. We are all entitled to our opinions of the Presidential nominees. This teacher is also entitled to call Barack Obama the “N-word” if that is how he feels about the man. What Mr. Howard is NOT entitled to do is to impose his views and thoughts of any particular person on middle school students (ANY student for that matter). The “N-word” should never be used by an adult in an authoritative position. By doing so we are promoting racism and make black students feel inferior espeecially when they are so young. The school board feels like the punishment was just for the crime, but it isn’t. This man is teaching the future leaders of the world that we live in and they need to know that it is not okay to do things like this. It is a slap on the wrist for something that is rather serious. He should be fired. I know teachers are hard to come by, but it shouldn’t be hard to find one that knows how to teach from the books and relate things going on in the world to the text books.

This is crazy!! In this day and age I can’t believe he had the audacity to say such filth to children. Someone made a comment that it was terrible for him to impose his political views on the children. The sad thing is that many white people are voting for McCain strictly because they do not want to vote for a black man. It doesn’t matter that he may or may not be qualified.

Yes I think that it was wrong to write that on the board. But I also kno that I have heard ppl say that the acronym for CHANGE is Come Help A N***a Get Elected. He might have wrote that because the class was talking about that subject. Again I’m not saying it excuses his actions but to be honest, the only reason so many ppl are upset is because he is white. If he was a black man and had written that on the board there would not be so much drama over the situation. If black ppl feel so offended by other races calling us n***as then y do u call each other that and allow other blacks to call u that?
