7th-Grade teacher to students: Obama is a ‘N’-word. Angry parents in the northwest Florida community of Marianna want a middle school teacher fired after he put the “N”-word on the board to describe Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama. The Marianna Middle School teacher, Greg Howard, is now serving a 10-day suspension after writing an acronym on the dry-erase board on Sept. 26: “C.H.A.N.G.E. – Come Help A N*gg*r Get Elected.” But many parents want the 17-year teacher fired. The seventh-grade social studies teacher’s class has 17 White students, six Black students and one Asian student. Initially he was suspended for the day without pay, but that was elevated to the 10-day punishment. He must also write a letter of apology to students. “We feel like the punishment is sufficient,” Larry Moore, superintendent of the Jackson County School District, told The Detroit Free Press. “We did not feel he had to be fired.” NAACP officials say they will reserve their actions in the case until their investigation is complete. Audrey Wad, who has nieces and nephews at the school, didn’t need any more information before expressing her outrage. “To me, it’s hurtful,” she told the Free Press. “The idea that he would impose his political opinion on the children is wrong to me. That’s where he crossed the line.”
To me suspension is a slap on the wrist. Look at what damment it will do. It is time for us to look at what’s in the heart & not what color of my skin is. My skin don’t do the work for me it is my mind & heart. He should be Fired, cause he would treat the kids wrong. He is a destroyer that poison insert children mind. We don’t need that kind of teaching. Went God made human being from the earth it was mixes and it still is, so insteady of trying to charge it, why don’t we try to live with it.
I am a student in the Philadelphia school district and I would just like to know how this teacher expects for children to learn and for our future,his future,his grandchildren future,if he insists on using words that describes a man of a different color in a degrading way.The future is all about change and using words like that and teaching children things like that isn’t going to bring change.

I don’t know the ethnicity of every commenter. However, I am a black republican man and I received that C.H.A.N.G.E message via text, from a black co-worker. I’m pretty sure that the majority of people who have something to say, seen that message whether text or email. Now that a white man has said it (no doubt he is for Obama) there’s a problem. Maybe not the right setting, but to get fired is extreme. This man has kids to feed and guaranteed his “approach” to make his students aware, is not going to affect them negatively. You know my people, not everyone is trying to oppress the black race.

I thought the acronym was funny…C.H.A.N.G.E…when a black person said it…and that to me is more of shameful than some ignorant white person sayin it…its only an outrage when a different race is sayin it…trip off B.E.T (Black Entertainment Television)…what if it was W.E.T. (White Entertainment Television)…then we will flip out on that…we need to stop callin ourselves the N’ word first…then just maybe they will stop…we are not the problem when it comes to racism…but we surely don’t help it none…this is just my opinon.
OK guys! I read a few of you comments and to be honest, some of you are stooping to these people levels. You don’t have to stoop to their levels, just let them act like and look like a fool. Now you know you have to do what you have to do and get out there and vote because if you don’t then we’ll end up in the hands of McCain and Palin. This has been a very common text message circulating before this incident. The teacher may have been just getting the students opinion on the subject.

I really wonder what the context of the statement was. Did he say that to make a point about the sorts of commentary being thrown about during this campaign? Was he trying to spark conversation amongst a diverse class? Was he asking the African-American students in the class what they thought of the acronym? As a teacher, I am sooooo of the “less educated” amongst who are not able to grasp the subtle nature of discourse getting angry because they simply don’t “get it”. How about we get some more information about the teacher’s intent before we decide that we know everything?

He said that in front of 7th graders, and all he got was a 10-day suspension. That bastard should’ve gotten fired!!! If it were the other way around, the a black teacher called McCain a “honky”, I GUARANTEE he would’ve gotten fired!!!

When a Harvard graduate is running for president and is Black. Many Caucasians want to dismiss his intellect and speaking manner, and degrade him to the n*word.
