I watch the NBA all the time and I have never heard of this guy; until now. Yes, he has the right to say what he feels, but he also has the the right to fell the repercussions of what he said. As a veteran of the Air Force, I support freedom of speech and belief. Just because he plays basketball and receives a large check does not mean that he has to agree or support the Star Spangled Banner and flag or what it represents. There are many people other than Mr. Howard who live in America and do not support it’s beliefs. To a member of the military, the flag represents America. So what did and does America represent. For some, racism from the beginning of time until the present. Many people were slaughtered “for the flag”. Blacks were not supported nor represented by the flag, the were enslaved and killed on behalf of the flag. Were the Indians supported by the flag or rather what it is supposed to stand for ? Does that mean their descendants must celebrate the flag? Even today as a minority member in the military, there are places you can see the flag hanging proudly yet blacks are not welcome. What the flag represents to each person is that person’s business! Mr. Howard does not have to celebrate, stand or anything else is he doesn’t feel incline to do so!
