January 9th, 2009Barack Obama: Only government can provide boost. Barack Obama wants support from lawmakers on a $775 billion plan to turn around America’s economy, he announced Thursday. The president-elect gave a televised 20-minute outline of his proposal in his first major speech since Election Night. He emphasized his feeling that a “wait and see” approach will no longer result in rejuvenating a nation devastated by failing banks, dying auto companies and epidemic home foreclosures. “It is true that we cannot depend on government alone to create jobs or long-term growth,” Obama said. ”But at this particular moment, only government can provide the short-term boost necessary to lift us from a recession this deep and severe.” Obama’s plan aims to save or create no less than 3 million jobs “over the next few years,” he said. While he acknowledged that the “cost of this plan will be considerable,” Obama urged the speedy passage of a stimulus bill. Among the targeted areas for assistance, he said, are public service jobs including police, fire and education.
I hope mr obama will get us a boost because the money I use to pay my big and beefy black men to use little white tush is used up!! Can anybody give me a freebee??

I also am a Obama supporter but don’t emdrace the concept of “only government can provide boost” Based on the magnitude of the situation I do understand the premise.However alot of the boost will have to come from the private sector.
For those who are calling this socialism or welfare state you need too realize this is pumping much needed cash into the economy so people can spend which inturn boost demand and manufactoring.What is also needed is a fair trade agreement and a limit on imports so products can be made and sold here.
it’s too expensive to be manufactoring here.

I don’t disagree with you stating that it’s too exspensive too manufactor here,albeit in some cases because where I live there is still much manufactoring,even in union shops. I say there should be a temporary wage and price freeze on every and I do mean EVERYTHING.That way with a cash infusion people can by things and the demand will boost the need too supply with the help of decreases on imports.

This plan will work… it is pricey; however, if you take a look at what’s been spent on the war in Iraq this amount is nothing. Welfare benefits have nothing to do with his plan. PRESIDENT Obama is trying to get more money circulating which raises the value of the US dollar and brings us closer to being out of the recession.
