The children of Martin Luther King have been at the center of a number of publicized family feuds mostly about the management of the King Center in Atlanta or the handling of their parents’ estate and legacies. In their most recent dispute, the first since the death of their sister Yolanda King in May 2007, Bernice and Martin Luther King III are suing their youngest brother Dexter Scott King. They claim he has mishandled money, including the $32 million the city of Atlanta paid for Martin Luther King Jr.’s papers, and hidden documents from them. They’re hoping the lawsuit will force Dexter, who is President of King Inc., to hold a meeting of board members. Bernice and Martin Luther King III are board members. “He owes Martin and Bernice an accounting of what has happened with all of the money,” said Jock Smith, the attorney representing Martin III and Bernice. “We’re trying to get an accounting as to the financing and well-being of the estate. The way to do that is to get records, books and accounting.”
I hope this issue gets resolved a.s.a.p. They are the children of a legend and hero. They should be carrying the legacy and not having family feuds. If Dexter Scott King did do anything inappropiate, he should confess and clean up the mess and his siblings should forgive him because that’s exactly what their parents would desire and expect.

I agree whole-heartedly with Tay’s statement. Definitely not a good look for the King family!; not to mention their father and mother’s legacy!
I am deeply sadden to hear this negative news about the kids . There has never been any negative publicity associated with them and to come during an election time. I,m so sad they couldn,t resolve this out of the public eyes. This may set us back as a people another 100 years because it puts we as a black people on trial also. Maybe God bless them, because i know their parents are turning over in their graves.
Dr. Martin Luther King & Coretta would be rolling in they graves right now until this right here ceases…. So just as the rest of the comments above have mentioned “That ain’t right” This is the last thing that they should have to be worrying about! I pray that this whole ordeal, if it’s true makes them come together even closer as a family and legacy.
He must be guilty if he doesn’t even want to show his siblings accounting of money transactions. Its a shame that this lawsuit had to happen and I bet Martin and Coretta are turning in their graves. I hope they figure this mess out and Dexter should want to clear his name.
Is this the brother that was recently married? Why is it that even the family of Martin Luther King cant even get along? It is sad to here. His father & mother have worked too hard to have their children act in this matter. They all are Kings and should be treated as so. You never heard of any of this when their mother was alive. For the respect of Martin & Coretta, Dexter stop this NOW! This is just what is said about my people, Put a little money in our face and watch us go against everything we love. The King family has been truly blessed since there father put his life on the line for us. He deserve much more. God don’t like ugly. And wrong is wrong. No amount of money is worth loosing the love of your family. At the end of the day, there all you have, My heart hurts too here, this is out of line totaly., My prayers are with them all.
Please King’s if something like this is going on, can you please at least keep it among yourselves? This is hurtful to hear this mishap in public knowing everything your parents stood for. Why do we as people feel like we have to broadcast everything about our lives across the airwaves? There is a meaning to being discreet- we really need to start living by it. Everybody’s business is nobody’s business is what someone told me awhile back.

This family has always been about the doe. I always hear that this is the family of the legend ,so phucking what! Bernice was comparing some local preacher, Eddie Long with her father; I was like b#$%h you must be smoking again! We’re supposed to put them up like their better then everyone else? Hells No! They have problms just like everyone else. They should have donated those papers but nope they sold history to the highest bidder. Did Malcom’s daughter’s sell his papers? Keep the sorry feelings for people who deserve it.
I lived in Atlanta for quite a few years and they definitely have reputations. One, two, maybe even three rumors? Yeah, yeah to be expected for anyone who is famous or the children of someone famous. But when there are dozens and dozens of rumors about you and all your siblings??? They got drama and one of the more prevalent characteristics they’re known for is being very “elilitist” black folk. You make the call….
There’s one in EVERY family. I hope they can resolve this thing before it gets worse than it already is. Dang Kings. I say to the Childred of Legends, expecially Dexter!-cut the Fu**ing BS and act like the people your parents raised you to be! Your parents must be spinning in their graves.
