Bernice and MLK III Sue Brother Dexter
July 12th, 2008Bernice and MLK III sue brother Dexter.
The children of Martin Luther King have been at the center of a number of publicized family feuds mostly about the management of the King Center in Atlanta or the handling of their parents’ estate and legacies. In their most recent dispute, the first since the death of their sister Yolanda King in May 2007, Bernice and Martin Luther King III are suing their youngest brother Dexter Scott King. They claim he has mishandled money, including the $32 million the city of Atlanta paid for Martin Luther King Jr.’s papers, and hidden documents from them. They’re hoping the lawsuit will force Dexter, who is President of King Inc., to hold a meeting of board members. Bernice and Martin Luther King III are board members. “He owes Martin and Bernice an accounting of what has happened with all of the money,” said Jock Smith, the attorney representing Martin III and Bernice. “We’re trying to get an accounting as to the financing and well-being of the estate. The way to do that is to get records, books and accounting.”
Time is filled with swift transition, Its a given anyone we may have considered an icon are having their Human side revealed. Maybe it’s time to quit saying I’m only human.(SNAP)
Now Dexter knows his parents are having a fit in their graves with him trying to shyster his siblings. It’’s enough to go around for them all and he is being very selfish and his father did not get down like that. Fix this mess Dexter and quit playing with $ that in entitled to you all. Share it greedy!!! That’s real talk from the heart!!
this is a sad situation. although we’re all human & all families have thei problems, with this being the children of the most honorable & respected BLACK MAN IN THE US HISTORY Jus makes it really sad. I Hope they can bring this to an end & keep their fathers legacy in mind. whats really happening to our people WE GOT TO GET IT TOGETHER YALL. MY BLACK PEOPLE. FOREAL!!!!
It is so sad when the children of the late Dr. King have to threaten one another with legal action. Dr. King was not about money. He was about justice and equal opportunity for all. I thought his children would follow suit.
How did Dexter get to be running things? isn’t he one of the youngest of the King children? I bet he was his mom’s favorite child. I miss Yolanda.
Honestly! Is this really new worth reporting. First of all he fact that these individuals are held in such high regard based on who their parents are is just simply odd. Secondly, prove Mr King did something wrong before crucifyling him in public. Thjat more than anything else is the real tragedy! By the way for whom are “The King” children being strong for? We need to rid ourselves of this fantasy relationship between the black community and the King family… they are human too!
One thing that makes me made is family always dispute when there is a death in the family. Their parents would not want this, Dr. King and Corretta Scott King. It seems that money is supposed to make us happy, but the truth is, Money is Misery. Money causes family break ups, unnecessary deaths, jail, etc. I will pray for this family.
Look , a few years ago i pick up Dr.King’s hand written letters .
The letters were auctioned off to the highest bidder.
DR AND MRS KING ARE GONE AND I AM SURE THEIR HEADS ARE SHAKING. LIFE IS TOO SHORT AN IS GETTING SHORTER. FAMILY SHOULD ALWAYS REMEMBER WHAT LASTS FOREVER AND WHAT DO NOT. IF ONE OF YOU WERE TOLD THAT YOU HAD 2 WEEKS TO LIVE, WOULD YOU STILL BE FIGHTING?
This is not nothing new under the sun,the worst is yet to come
It is really sad, Dr.King & Coretta built that foundation with their BLOOD/SWEAT/TEARS,he gave his life for that cause. They fought for the equality of mankind & now one of their own creaion’s is trying to destroy it. That just proves, MONEY IS THE ROUTE OF ALL THAT IS EVIL.
that a shame………..they are one of the last royal families in our history …..i am sadden by this money is the root of all evil……think ain’t that the reason we are african-american any way…..god first and he will provide…….

Hmmm! So that’s why I had not seen Dexter in any recent photos with his other siblings!
This is so sad, I pray that there wasn’t any misappropriation of funds going on, if so, Dexter will have more to worry about than Bernice and Martin suing him, he could possibly face criminal charges.
How are we suppose to expect other races to respect us if we don’t respect ourselves ,money ,the king’s kid’s yeah right that’s bull . I feel like they don’t even respect there own mom & dad because if they did they wouldn’t let this happen public or private CAN YOU SAY NOBLE PRIZE OUR JOINING HANDS AS SISTERS AND BROTHERS I HAVE A DREAM jerks that was your daddy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am shocked!!! I can’t believe this is happening to a family that was so devoted to everything their parents stood for. I am praying for your family that you guys can keep it together. A family that prays together stays together. Yes, there will be some bumps in the road because we can’t expect our lives to be great when His only begotten Son’s life wasnt without tragedy. Keep It Real!!!!!
Things like this happen in every family, they just happen to be a ‘famous’ family………………. they need to look for divine guidance to rise above this and move forward collectively for the sake of their family legacy
What’s going on with the kids of two of the greatest parents God have placed on this Earth (that’ my opinion). I’m sure Dr. King and/or Mrs King told them, “DON’T LET MONEY CHANGE YOU”?
