Bernie Mac Is Alive, Recovering From Pneumonia

Both Bernie Mac’s publicist and his wife are refuting rumors that the popular comedian died this past weekend. Mac was hospitalized and recovering from pneumonia late last week, publicist Danica Smith told The Chicago Sun-Times. By Saturday, fans in Mac’s native Chicago and those browsing Web sites throughout the country were expressing sadness and posting tributes to the “late” Kings of Comedy alum. It appears that a hoax involving calls to various TV newsrooms led to the scare and caused at least one Chicago network affiliate to scroll the news across the screens of its viewers’ sets at home. “It is a very horrible rumor,” Smith says. “It is absolutely untrue.” Mac’s condition was, in fact, improving, Smith adds: “He’s doing great and hopes to get out soon.
