I don’t want to see the same gospel acts on there timt and time again. Give some other artist a chance. Mary-Mary, Kirk, Donnie, Shirley and smokie no thank you. Put Tye Tribbet, Marvin Winans, Rance Allen, John P. Kee, Men of standard, Isreal & New Breed, Cece Winans, Dooby Powells, Kim Burrell, Bishop Paul Morton and Harvey Watkins and the christainaries. on there and Vanessa Armstrong.
How come there are no urban Christian/Gospel artists there? There are plenty of talented musicians making urban hip hop/spoken word that could/should (IMO) participate in this event (Da’ Truth, Lecrae)…why only secular urban artists with the gospel singers?
BET I’m surprise that the 2 number one hit for 2008 artist are not performining i.e. Marvin Sapps and James Fortune & Fyre. The only good thing about the line up is Steve Harvey will be hosting it again. Enough said.
put tye and haddon on along with the greatest. the same people do the same act. let get live for God make it entertaining for the young ones like me I’m 16 and love gospel music more than others you need 2 draw more people to god specially the young people……..
They need new gospel singers to sing this time. There is a whole lot more singers that they can get to sing but it seems like they are stuck to certain ones……hope they can step it up this year.
You are right they do seem to have some of the same people. Tonex would give a wonderful performance. Da T.R.U.T.H, Lalah Hathaway, Marvin Winans, Jr. They should have some performers from every Genre
TYE TRIBBETT SHOULD BE THERE!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!
I agree with everybody else. Put L. Spencer Smith &Testament on there. I love that group. Kirk is good and all the others, don’t get me wrong but lets see some more of this gospel talent. Now, that hip hop gospel stuff is ridiculous. What in the world is hip hop gospel? How you gon put the world and the church together??? Thats not right. Anyway, lets get some new acts BET! Steve Harvey, keep him on there. He keeps it live and funny!
Nothing wrong with “secular” artists appearing on the show. They need Jesus too! “Christians” need to stop being so elitist that’s why so many people want nothing to do with the church.
I THINK THE CLARK SISTERS ARE THE BEST OF ALL TIME SO THEY SHOULD BE SINGIN IN THE GOSPEL AWARDS ON JAN 25 2009
I think it’s a good luck on Keyshia and LL because ppl will see not only R&B and Hip Hop but they will also c their religious side…so I say thumbs up to that one
I agree wit big dogg. Im tired of seein kirk franklin on there every year. Im tired of seein him period.
KEYSHIA, YOU CAN NOT HAVE BOTH ,TO GO ONE WITH YOUR LIFE ,BUT YOU CAN MAKE A DECISION TO SUPPORT ONE AND STAY MORE CLOSE TO THE ONE HE IS YOUR BIRTH MOTHER.AND NEFFE STOP TO BE BAD WOMEN WITH YOUR OWN MOTHER IF YOU SAID YOU LOVE HER .THEM GIVE YOUR MOTHER A BREAK. NO BULL NO BIAS.
THE PRODUCCER THEY FIND IT WAS A GOOD THING TO VIEW YOUR LIFE KEYSHIA LIKE THAT ON NATIONAL TV. SERIOUXLY SOMETIME IS NOT APPROPRIATE.AND NEED BETTER MOVE.
it would be very nice to see Harvey Watkins and the Canton Spirituals,John P Kee, The Clark Sisters just to name a few im sure everyone is about tired of seeing Kirk and Donnie.
Amen!! To all our wonderful gospel singers, but can we get some new comers, such as: Deon Kippin and New Covenant, Doobie Powell, the numder one on Bet. Marvin Sapp, Kim Burrel,Tye Tribett,Bishop Paul Mortin, James Hall Worship and praise and the Clark Sisters. Come on Yall get it together.
I agree with you all about a change of performers. Even though I love all these gospel singers, they aren’t the only ones that are making an impact in the gospel. They could ask artists like Tyrese. I see him sitting in the audience every year, plus Da’ Truth, Lejune Thompson, Ricky Dillard, Joshua Troop and Youthful Praise to name a few. If I live to see January 25,2009, I will find myself looking at it, even though they have the same artists on the show and hoping the next year that some fresh faces will be on the show. I hope everybody have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Be Safe.
With exposure to the industry on both sides, I’d like to weigh in on this. Many want to know why the same “A” list stars are on the gospel show. Allow me to explain: it’s because these stars sell the most units and have the most name notariety and are the driving force on the gospel charts, therefore, to get sponsors and commercial partnerships they must remain apart. A McDonalds or Tide brand is not going to endorse a show that displays talent (that they are not familiar with) but rather stars. So in sense, those names will be headling the show for some-time. It’s one of those things that you chalk up to being “sad but trueR 21;.
HOWEV ER… ;..doesn ’t BET claim to be the place “where stars are made”? I know I have heard them make this statement. I happen to agree with 90% of these bloggers, I just happen to have more knoweledge of the industry, and I think someone in the production boardroom needs to listen up. After all, these are people that will give the show its ratings.
The vast array of talented gospel artists have always had a hard time with exposure. These are the peoeple who come to our churches for Sunday night concerts and midnight musicals, who’s songs are played on radio and sung on Sunday morning but just not as much as a Kirk or Donnie or Yolonda.
There is an entirely new generation of gospel greats arising and we deserve a chance. Yes, I am an artist; who’s songs have gone #1 on some radio markets but still have a hard time being considered for distribution oppotunities, walmart placement and major concerts. I had a secular-turned-christian distributor tell me once that it is harder to make it in Gospel than in the secualr industry. He said it’s because people in gospel don’t give you much of a chance. After all of my industry experience, I’d say thats true.
As you all can see, I can go on and on about this. However, I’ll just stay on my grind, for the sake of ministry. I’m not bitter, just bothered. I would like to be apart of a change in our blessed industry. If that never comes, it will be ok, I’m in it for ministry not industry anyway.
Get at me…. myspace. com/greg drumwrig ht
Come on BET! Not the same ole, same ole. I love Kirk, Bobby, Shirley and the Mary’s, but Gospel/Christain music is much broader than this. There are a lot of great artists out there that are making great strides in the industry (on the radio and billboard charts and in the churches and venues). If you need some help with your selection process, I would love to help.
What is your selection process? How do you go about selecting artist.
With this year’s line-up I see that the majority of the participants just newly released albums or about to release a new album, so its looking like a record label(s) showcase instead of a Celebration of Gospel. At most label showcases, the labels pay to have their artist on stage or sponsor the showcase themselves. Is this the case? Please let us know, because if so, I would strongly consider changing the name.
Please advise.
God Bless.
can’t wait 2 hear Keyshia Cole sing x)!
i think this gospel awards is a brilliant concept!! the fact that its a gospel award doesn’t mean only gospel personalities should grace the ocassion. its a celebration of music!! all or any artist can be present!! showcasing new talent as well as old are all a welcome inclusion. brilliant!
KEYSCHIA I LOVE YOUR SONG AND THE WAY IT IS .WHEN YOU SING.THAT REALLY COOL AND NICE. I LOVE YOU HAS A ARTIST AND YOU DO GOOD.
BUT I DON’T LIKE TO MUCH YOU EXPOSE YOUR LIFE ON NATIONAL TV TOO MUCH SOMETIME. AND NEFFE SHE TO BAD WITH HER OWN MOTHER NEED TO IMPROVE AND BE A BETTER NEFFE.NICE WITH HER MOTHER IF SHE SAID SHE LOVE HER MOM.
OK NOW BYE….
where is tye and Ga?
I have no problem with donnie. what is up with ll being there. i would rather see da truth
i have no dought in my mind that showcasing new talent should be an essential part of the show!! but in my opinion that is not to say that stars should not be part of the show simply because they have been around forever, cause these artists are selling! don’t get me wrong celebration of new life and new artists in gospel is also crucial here. perhaps the organisers should spell out the rational for selection and the esssence of the awards. a celebration of gospel should be at the forefront of this.
All Great Artists… But I See Dem 2 Muc …BET Add… New Acts… Like Kierra Sheard….Tye Tribett…..James Fortune…..Marvin Sapp….Spencer L Smith.
Artist Like Dem,,,, Tiz Is Their Year….
they are missing great music from Tye tribbett Da’ Truth, Joshua Troop and Youthful Praise
I believe everyone in here… christian music is more broader than this… I think that they have a religious ways when it comes to worshipping god.. They must dont know that God created everything in the earth and thereof.. meaning that nothing on this earth belong to us… we are just stewards over them… I think they need some hip hop type music… and as far as i can tell this wat the people want as well… Check out the way we worship god in hip hop music http://www.myspace.com/aokproduction... but dont get me wrong… wat i love to do more than rapping for him is worshiping him… Thanks for reading
I THINK LIL WAYNE, PLIES, AND TRINA SHOULD BE THERE ALSO!!!!!
Yeah, I understand ratings and sponsors and who’s A-list and whos not. But if you ask me the focus has been lost when it comes to this show. Man, there are soo many great artist that have great songs out that truly represent God. I have never seen a show where they just let God move it has always been about just what they say. A-List stara and sponsors. I mean what’s the problem.
what happened to the clark sisters, judith mcallister, micah stampley, rance allen, bettye nelson, vanessa bell. Whoever said this i agree because we need some other people on there im tired of seeing the same old people. However, i believe it will still be good
judith mcallister needs to be there
I must honestly say, I am in no big rush to see or hear this years Celebration of Gospel. I, more than likely ,will choose something else to watch on the airing night due to the industry wanting “big names” as opposed to what we, the viewers want. These artist are overexposed. It’s okay to hear them but there is nothing so exciting about them that would make me call my friends and family to say “don’t miss C of G”. I hope and trust the industry understands that our interest are broader than to keep giving us the same performers every year. I think there has been wonderful insight on this blog as to who we like to hear. Out of the group that was named per BET C of G staff, I would be excited about Hez , he is anointed, he will do great, not to say the others aren’t great performers, I am just so over hearing them. This has been a tough year of recession, and a great year in that Obama won the white house. This year’s C of G should reflect that. Start out with “old school” Shirley C, Clark Sister’s and gradually work their way up to Tye, Detrick, Fred, Israel, Marvin, John P. Kee. I would love to see a praise and worship with Shekinah Glory, that song “Jesus” is awsome. A new artist showcase and a choir spotlight would be good as well. C of G needs to hold public suggestion-polls well before the program is set. If C of G does not listen to it’s listeners they will end up getting canceled like many shows before them.
I agree with most the bloggers in that there needs to be a different line up this time and from her on out! Keeping Steve is and will always will be a plus, but it the “same artists, every year”. You cannot do gospel shows the same way you would do the AMA’s, the grammy’s and other secular award shows because their are no awards to be given other than praise in song to the higher one!
The producers must’ve been thinking this way because they would not have asked the “same gospel artists” again and again, year after year!!!! Kanye West and Beyonce can appear on various award shows, singing the same hit song and it can be sung and arranged differently on every network: along with added visuals, costumes, dancers, etc…. You cannot do this approach with gospel artists because you either bring it, or you don’t!
I HOPE THAT KEYISHA COLE DOESN’T MESS UP THE SONG SHE IS SINGING SHE IS A OK SINGER MAYBE SHE NEEDS TO GET BACK IN THE CHURCH MAYBE HER VOCALS WILL GET BETTER!! BUT HEY WHO AM I TO JUDGE!!
I strongly agree with Sam, Sanna and the others.
“Keep Steve, but a new line up needs to be considered!!” I’m really not looking forward to next years performances.
“All gospel artists are emotional and you cannot go wrong with a new line because they already know where their blessings come from” They also don’t have the “greater than thou, larger than life” egos and pissy attitudes like the secular artists; most of whom cannot sing live and with a band anyway! This is one of many times that BET needs to read our comments and not take us bloggers for granted!!! Like Sanna mentioned, we could see yet another canceled program because the executives wouldn’t listen to the viewing public!
(The same artists makes you wonder what deal$ings and ca$tings are negoatiated behind the scene$ !!!!!)
I agree a little more contemporary gospel would be great. I love Tye and Israel but I would have loved to have seen William Murphy his song Empty me is simply beauiful
I love the show, but i’m old school. lets see artist like lee williams, mighty cloud of joy,the canton spirtuals. i like contemporary but i love down home gospel.
In this day an age we need all the inspiration we can get. The point of the show is the message that it sends. It does not matter to me who sings, as long as its true, and from the heart. I look forward to the show every year. God bless you all.
I agree with you all as far as having a variety of Gospel ministers….I would scream if Doobie sang…I was apart of the first group he started…and would be so excited… Doobie 8230;.Ho lla
Moniq ue
I CAN NOT wait for this multi extravaganza event to happen. I know its going to be off the charts and I would not miss it for the world.
I am just so tired of being forced fed certain artists all of the time. Not only in gospel music, but in secular music too. I appreciate the fact that BET is even willing to have a gospel music show of this magnitude. But what’s disappointing is the fact that BET always plays it safe and almost never utilizes their full influential power to be a trendsetter or a game changer. BET could be that much needed media launchpad that the quality undiscovered black artists need. But instead they seem content with having the deep pockets of the major music industry dictate to them and keep them conforming rather than innovating. Now is the perfect time for a REAL Black Entertainment network to self-lessly come along and provide some long overdue competition for BET.
I think this show needs a different host or at least a co-host to add a lil flavor to it. When Kirk gets boring, that’s when they should stop having him. He’s not there yet. The Clark Sisters, Patti LaBelle, Kim Burell, Vanessa Bell, Kelly Price, Fantasia, J-hud will make a fabulous show. Oh and don’t forget Ricky Dillard to show you how a REAL choir sings.
I agree with all you bloggers. I have been to COB for 4 years in a row. It is the same artists. However, they should try and include 4 different choirs off the 4 coasts. They also need to allow others to share in the gift of song. I agree…Bishop Haddon, DaTruth, Pastor Sheryl Brady, Dr. Yvonne Capehart,. BET needs to mix it up. They did have Israel and the New Breed. They tore it up. Also, they need to show what goes on during the breaks because we rip it up in the Holy Spirit and have a blessed time. We truly get our praise on but you would never know. They cut out last year how….Marvin Sapp ministered to us. We need to pray for BET executive leaders because they don’t get it. You know what else. They had to use seat fillers to fill up the auditorium.
What about Hezekia Walker 8230; 230;R 30;̷ 0;..Moni que Walker, James HallR 30;̷ 0;… ;.Micah Stampley …& #8230; 8230; 230;R 30;Dorin da Clake ColeR 30;̷ 0;… ;… …& #8230; 8230; 230;R 30;̷ 0;… ;.Commod ores (Jesus is Love)
I am still against this hip hop and gospel mix. Either you’re one or the other. You can’t be Godly on that one night then go back to your normal life of r&b and what not. Its not right and God don’t like it. And its not christians thats saying this, its God through us. He doesn’t like it and don’t approve. But yeah, if you haven’t been listening, why would you start listening now? Continue your hip hop gospel and all that nonsense. Yall will know in the end. Thats all i got to say.
I am just so tired of Kirk Franklin, he can’t even sing
best unrecognized gospel artist: Jason Nelson, Jonathan Dunn. if you don’t know, check out youtube and find out. Awesome singers AND song writers. both have had their songs covered by Marvin Sapp, especially Jonathan Dunn.
oK i AGREE also with everyone on the performers!!! Sick of the same people!! Where is PASTOR MARVIN WINANS?? (my husband lol naw just kidding I love this man!!) He has an excellent new cd which came out last Sept. “Alone but not alone’!! YES there alot of new artist that are being over looked! I’m surprise Yoloanda Adams and Fred Hammond isnt on there! they used to be on like all these others 8230; 230;R 30;.I mean old school of course is always good but theres more people out there then Shirley Ceasar!!! why LLCOOL J and Kesha Cole??? ok this I gotta see!! nothing about them says “Gospel”!! PLEASE!! where is the Detroit folks?? The clark sound(although there on alot of things) but i have never seen them on COB. Steve Harvey again?? I don’t know…….
Lynn please, just plan ignorant. People they can’t put everybody on the show, it would never go off. I think they pick some off the artist, not all of them, because of the substance of gospel music they sing. Their songs have substance and mean something unlike all that beebooping around to gospel music. I’m a young person and I like old and new gospel, but it has to have some spiritual meaning to it. Now I do agree, I am tired of seeing Kirk Franklin, I haven’t really felt his music since he left the family(Kirk Franklin and the Family). Also tired of seeing Dr. Bobbie Jones also.???? Some of the Great Aritist have been on there before. I remeber seeing Marvin Sapp, Kelly Price (Love her), Fantasia, and The Clark Sisters last year or the year before. Oh my gosh, Kat I totally agree with you. I have never thought keysha was a great singer, she just sing great songs. Let’s pray for her and that voice of hers. If she just sing and let God use her she will be alright. I think it’s still going to be a great show just as long as God gets ALL the glory. Much Love!
Why does it matter what gospel artist sings? They all minister. Receive it. Get blessed. You might be through with Donnie, Shirley, or Kirk, but God is not through with them yet. It’s still their season. You listen to the SAME pastor every week, so I am sure it won’t hurt to hear the same singers bring it in a new and exciting way.
I agree with Big Dogg…I do enjoy everyone that will be participating but it’s time for some new entertainment. BET plzzzzzz don’t leave us hangin’ GOD has blessed so many of the blk gospel artist that we need to be exposed and introduced to others, Bobby Jones can’t sing so let somone else take his place. Whatever happen to “JoAnn Roserio?” She was one of Fred Hammond’s artist. “God’s Chosen?” It really dosen’t matter though I’m gonna watch anyway, and take a break when Bobby Jones come on.
I thing you should get artist like Da’ T.R.U.T.H., Lacrae, Trip Lee, FLAME, Ambassador, Leah Smith, Steven the Levite, Shai Linne and J.R……. just got to crossmovement.com or lampmode.com
i agree with Bigg Dog… The same ol smae ol same ol be at any thing that BET does. From Nominees to guests it gets old. Its more to gospel music then Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary. Dont get me wrong I love them to death. But there is more gopsel giants than that.
I can’t wait to see that happen
BEVERLY CRAWFORD SHOULD BE ON THERE! It’s a shame after all these years and BET never let this woman be on COG! After all she got her START on BET (BJG)! Plus she had such a great year!
Yo! i agree with everybody i mean like yo Vickie Winans dont need to be up there this year…im sorry i Love u but they should’ve got her son Mavin Winans Jr (his album is fire!) Also why isnt Kiki up there…as well as Deitrick Haddon, Joshua Troop, & Dorinda Clark Cole….i mean like Come On BET ya’ll slummin but imma still watch it cuz Mary Mary is up there but other than that im not surprised this year at all…maybe there are some surprises on the actual show!
I was going to come on and echo some of the same thoughts that BET should have artists like Flame from Cross Movement Records on the lineup. He was nominated for a Grammy and a Stellar Award!
But I’m just happy and applaud BET for showcasing Gospel on their national platform. We’d all be complaining if they didn’t have it, so I’m just glad they did.
I do too, however, feel like they are jading some of the other national artists like Flame.
brandon.battle@yahoo.com
Guess what B.E.T, It goes to show you can’t please everyone. I will be watching .
Deitrick Haddon needs to be on their period. Im tired of the sam ol same ol reach the young people
Lecrae should be there.
I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR AND SEE MORE OF THE WILLIAMS BROTHERS, AND LEE WILLIAMS. I CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH OF THESE GUYS. I JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH!
KIM BURRELL
TUNESHA CRISPELL
MICAH STAMPLEY
MYRON BUTLER
SHEA NORMAN
wELL, i was there the night of the taping, and i thought it was GREAT!
although i don’t have cable on a regular, it would be hard for me to talk about the repeats.. but i will say each artist has their own individuality that they bring.. and should be appreciated in tht way!!
Y’all must don’t remember when Don Cornelius 1st started Soul Train, and ONLY had 2 SPONSORS !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!< br /> Posner with Natalie Cole, and Soft Sheen or was it … i forget the other one, but the same 2 commercials for EVERY BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (for a whole hour!)
THAT’S WHAT HE HAD TO DO!!!!!!! to keep the show runnin’ … not to mention they NEVER gave him a REGULAR SPOT, for i don’t know how long… so lets please COUNT OUR BLESSINGS…. now you know we WOULD BE COMPLAINING if no- one EVER CAME ON!!! O.K.
LET’S JUST COUNT AND BE GLAD… WE GOT SOMEBODY TO SHOW & REPRESENT!!!!!!!!
AMEN!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!!!!!!!
Please someone tell me who sang “never could have made it” in this special. I can’t figure it out.
I like the aray of gospel stars, but what happen to having some that haven’t performed on the show, like - John Pee, and the good-good song I made it… ;… …I ts all good, but I would like to hear some different artist also..
It really doesn’t matter who performs to me as long as we all get to worship God. I am really grateful that the you have given the r&b singers and rappers a chance to let there voice about our Lord and Savior be heard.
The Artist are chosen by whose album just came out, or who’s album is a major hit! So, it may seem that it’s the same people, but it’s the people who are producing the hits! AND MARY MARY IS OFF THE CHAIN! ANYTIME THEY COME ON THE CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL IS A BLESSING TO ME!
Here we go again! Another year of the same Gospel artists… Like everyone else on this blog board, I do agree that we need to change the venue of Christian artists. As an young devout Christian, Celebration of Gospel need to include an more diverse of Christian artists, especially Christian rap artists like: Lecrae, Tripp Lee, Sho Baraka, Cross Movement, and so forth. I am not knocking down the Gospel artists that will be performing on the show. Hey, God has allow their talents to be seen and His Light to be shine, so that everybody can come together to praise, worship, and adore Him. However, what about the other “underground” Christian artists? Really, why not Rance Allen, Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, or Joann Rosario? Them, and like I mentioned earlier, Christian rap artists? Personally, I think that the BET Gospel Industry doesn’t want artists in the above sentences is because they PREACH the truth or “Tell it Like It Is”! Kirk Franklin and the rest of the rest of the other artists is… ;um̷ 0;hmm 230; “Crossover” artists. Since they appeal to both the secular world and Christian world, BET puts them to perform, so that they can make money off of them and the “Crossover” crew can claim more money, fame, etc. Ok, I need to finish up, but I also have to say something else: Why is LL Cool J performing on the Celebration of Gospel? That doesn’t make sense! Christians and secular people are not suppose to be unequally yoke together! Please, can someone tell me if I am wrong of thinking these thoughts?
Gospel is a ministry…….. not a show! God is real the song should be ministred for the edfication of the kingdom…..ye ll cool j is performin…. c thats the thing hes just performin……. there is very much so an artist that can take his spot… bet is loosing focus.. God ant in to hollywood .
This show is really to promote new ministries. It’s really not about those that are already out there. I will say that we as Christians really have to stop being soooooooooo critical of every thing. We’re silent with the issues that matter the most, but we find a need to “judge” things such as this. We need to be more concerned about the impact that the church is making in our communities. Why are so many of our children dying and the church( the body of Christ) doesn’t raise its voice.
Why do we get caught up in the small issues and become less and less concerned about the “FUNCTIONING BODY OF CHRIST”!!
Can the Celebration of Gospel Bring Back Tonex?
THE CLARK SISTERS ALL THE WAY!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! BET WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!?
Did anyone on here notice that 21:03 is in the line up??? They’re a fairly new group on the gospel scene. Since recently giving my life to God, I have really taken to this group. They are an encouraging trio of young black men living for God. Does my spirit good
However, I am confused as to why Deitrick Haddon isn’t on. Deitrick Haddon is baaaaaaaaaaaad. And he is real in his walk with God. I have my feelings on “worldy” talent “performing” for God, but I won’t get on that soapbox. Anywho, if at all possible, I will be watching.
PLEASE BET…PLEASE!!!!! NOT THE SAME PEOPLE AGAIN….YIKES. YOU
GOT TO KNOW WE ARE TIRED OF CAPT KIRK, THE MARY’S, SHIRLEY,
DONNIE, VICKIE, BOBBY AND YES ….MAYBE EVEN STEVE. IF IT WAS FRED AND YOLANDA, WE WOULD BE TIRED OF THEM TOO!!! THERE ARE
SO MANY “OTHER” GREAT SINGERS THAT GOD HAS ANNOINTED AND
BLESSED AND SHOULD BE ON THIS SHOW. GIVE US SOME NEW TALENT… ANYBODY BUT THE SAME OLE SAME OLE. GEORGE BUSH IS
FREE NOW…ASK HIM….THE SALVATION ARMY BAND….ANYBODY BUT
THIS SAME BUNCH. signed, Heaven and Earth.
I understand where youy all are coming from and i myself enjoy some of the new gospel music that is out there but the only reason you enjoy these songs are because most sound so much like secular music, truth be known a lot of the beats are from old hip hop , rand b or what have you.I never tire of listening to true saved gospel artist ,anybody can sing a gospel song that has a voice but it is the conviction behind it.
Just wanted to say a few words and piggy back off one of the other bloggers that said the reason why BET have the same artist is due to them selling the most units and have a NAME in gospel music, is huge. I remember when Bishop Hezekiah Walker was on the Celebration of Gospel with the Love Fellowship Tabernacle Choir, not the Crusade Choir, about 7 years ago, they blew me away and the reason why they were on the show was due to the name of Hezekiah Walker and because they hit #5 on BillBoard when their album was released.
I said all of that to say that I went to the BET event in LA and yes there were some artisits that I could have done without but the artisits like Kurt Carr, Mary Mary and Bishop Hezekiah Walker and LFC, they were awesome.
Trust me, you all will not be disappointed when you view the event on television!! Take care and have a wonderful 09!!
I love the Celebration Of Gospel is there a way to be on the show as an audience member?Cause I would love to go and be there.
God bless all who will be ministering to the world through song and praise. God uses whom HE want to use. So let’s stop hating on the same ol same ol. It’s their season and God has a purpose for them at this time. When God one day bless you to shine in any aspect, you don’t people treating you this way. Just received what and who God has before you. I’m sure on Sunday, Jan. 25th, you will be bless. Start thinking about what God want. It’s time we Bless HIM.
Celebration of Gospel should go Old School and COGIC….The Clark Sisters, Beverly Crawford, RIcky Dillard, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Rance Allen, etc….now you want a show…….Use these people and folks will be saved through the media of televison…….
I agree with some of your viewers, it is good giving some of the other gospel artist a chance on your show even some fresh new gospel singers as my self. I feel that i can sing as well as some of the artist on your show ,it’s just that GOD have’nt put me in the right place at the right time ,I know he will soon and when he do,i am going to sing praises to him all over this world. I know there are people out there in this world that need to hear his word thru song like some of you are doing now, I figure the more we have to spread his word the faster we’ll get the message to the people that really really need him the most. we will always need him but. there is some one out there who do not know how to reach him and that’s why we as singers have to make it happen with our lyrics and music. so be bless and lets make it happen as our new president OBAMA says IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE and MAY GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!!!
Dag, ppl hatin hard. I agree, there could be better acts, but you never know how God might move at the special. LL Cool J, you never know what he could do. (Granted, I think that T.R.U.T.H. could take his spot, but whatever.) He and Keyshia (although I don’t like her much) could be used to get the young ppl into gospel music.
As for those that are hating on gospel rap, I love it. As a fan of both hip hop AND gospel music, as well as many others, I don’t see what the problem is. The rappers are preaching the gospel to a great track. You like poetry? You like the word of God? You like sermons? You like music? Mix all that, you got gospel rap. Open your minds and hearts. Don’t judge or condemn ppl or they’ll make it to Heaven before you do. Besides, you never know what task God has given them for the Kingdom.
I think The clark sisters are the best and they should really be on there I LOVE THE CLARK SISTERS
My Heart needed that uplift. you can’t please everyone all the time. Just like everyone didn’t vote for our 44th president but jesus put him in the whitehouse.Thank-you for all your blessings.
who were the artist on the song ‘God Favored Me’ … is it available in stores?
Please leave Kirk off next year!!!!!!!!! I would love to see Dedrick and old school R. Allen Valerie B.
The show was okay. I just wish the people who plan this event would show case other artist other than Mary Mary and Kirk Franklin (who I love don’t get me wrong). Gospel music can be huge if we stop picking on the same acts year after year.
Darlene McCoy, Onitsha, Surel, The Singletons, Lisa McClendon, Izzy… there are so many I can just go on and on… I just wish the organizers would really look at Gospel music as a whole and not just those artist who are popular. The goal is to spread the good news and that doesn’t have to be through the same ole’ people. No disrespect to Donnie and all those who did perform, lets shake things up a bit for next year. I know that God is using lots of people and I hope that you can find them, if you want some suggestions please feel free to ask me.
God Bless,
RTSH
Old school Gospel is where the foundation comes from Shirley Cearsar, Clarke Sister,Hezekaih walker, etc. Truth be told alot of the new gospel singers and groups are relatives of the elder groups. Some are daughters & sons of preachers etc; therefore there inspiration came from god through way of the ministering foundation( OLD SCHOOL)
Yes we love Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, Dietrick & Damitria Haddeon,Donald Lawernce (That’s My man of god Ministering throught song). Yet we need to hear the Trail Blazers because they still sooth our ears, hearts & Minds. Remember there is a season for everthing .Stay blessed !
Celebration of Gospel 2009 was a blessing. God Favored Me is by Hezekiah Walker - then Marvin Sapp came in… ;… thatR 17;s when I started paying attention - the 3rd guy was DJ Rogers - don’t know him. If you google it; the video is @ 1800gospel.com, actually all the performances are there. agree w/all the comments, but know the major acts keep performing because those are the names that people are paying attention to. Shirley Ceasar is beautiful, I like hearing what Kirk Franklin is up to and Donnie Mc has great vocals and is so spirit filled. I hope Mary Mary will find some new wardrobe folks - the outfits they were not the be appealing for their body shapes. There are too many plus size styles they could have worn. I enjoyed hearing “Jesus Is Love”, the African group and the 2103 guys group had lots of energy, enjoyed them. Based on the comments before mine they must have missed Rance Allen w/Kirk Franklin and Marvin Sapp were both on. Be Blesse!!!
Yes it would be nice to see some other faces like patrice shirley ,Jennifer Hudson, Babie Mason, The Barrett Sisters, The Clark Sisters, John P Kee, Benita Washington”THANK YOU” awesome cd.., Milton Brunson rip..and the community singerts,Olivia Branch Walker, Byron Cage and have a throw back era added to the show meaning have some throw back songs performed from the 80-to 90s that would be hoy
I guess you should all understand by now that if someone else is paying for the show, they can sponsor the singers they want. Sad to say it but, TV COSTS MONEY! Production costs, advertisements costs. Advertisers pay big money for commercials — that’s how O makes her money. If you want a different lineup, then unfortunately you will have to pay for it. It seems like you’re not content with “singing for the Lord” in church.
Well, I am happy now that the Celebration of Gospel has come and it was awesome. i read earlier someone’s comments about getting other artist to come on like Marvin Sapp.. He was on there singing with the presence and anointing of God. with Hez it was awesome. You have to understand air play my brother and sisters… Tye has been on all of the aritist you listed has been on; its still a blessing that they even had a gospel celebration every year. To the marking staff / Coordinating department keep doing what you are doing and let the lord use you. going higher and higher.. even the africian artist was a blessing.
Did anyone hear are see Teena Marie powerful performance on the show! she still got it but now stronger that ever with the God by her side, if you are a true Teena Marie fan you would know she always have a song giving thanks to our heavnely father, keep on doing it Lady T!
