Nothing wrong with “secular” artists appearing on the show. They need Jesus too! “Christians” need to stop being so elitist that’s why so many people want nothing to do with the church.
I THINK THE CLARK SISTERS ARE THE BEST OF ALL TIME SO THEY SHOULD BE SINGIN IN THE GOSPEL AWARDS ON JAN 25 2009
I think it’s a good luck on Keyshia and LL because ppl will see not only R&B and Hip Hop but they will also c their religious side…so I say thumbs up to that one
I agree wit big dogg. Im tired of seein kirk franklin on there every year. Im tired of seein him period.
KEYSHIA, YOU CAN NOT HAVE BOTH ,TO GO ONE WITH YOUR LIFE ,BUT YOU CAN MAKE A DECISION TO SUPPORT ONE AND STAY MORE CLOSE TO THE ONE HE IS YOUR BIRTH MOTHER.AND NEFFE STOP TO BE BAD WOMEN WITH YOUR OWN MOTHER IF YOU SAID YOU LOVE HER .THEM GIVE YOUR MOTHER A BREAK. NO BULL NO BIAS.
THE PRODUCCER THEY FIND IT WAS A GOOD THING TO VIEW YOUR LIFE KEYSHIA LIKE THAT ON NATIONAL TV. SERIOUXLY SOMETIME IS NOT APPROPRIATE.AND NEED BETTER MOVE.
it would be very nice to see Harvey Watkins and the Canton Spirituals,John P Kee, The Clark Sisters just to name a few im sure everyone is about tired of seeing Kirk and Donnie.
Amen!! To all our wonderful gospel singers, but can we get some new comers, such as: Deon Kippin and New Covenant, Doobie Powell, the numder one on Bet. Marvin Sapp, Kim Burrel,Tye Tribett,Bishop Paul Mortin, James Hall Worship and praise and the Clark Sisters. Come on Yall get it together.
I agree with you all about a change of performers. Even though I love all these gospel singers, they aren’t the only ones that are making an impact in the gospel. They could ask artists like Tyrese. I see him sitting in the audience every year, plus Da’ Truth, Lejune Thompson, Ricky Dillard, Joshua Troop and Youthful Praise to name a few. If I live to see January 25,2009, I will find myself looking at it, even though they have the same artists on the show and hoping the next year that some fresh faces will be on the show. I hope everybody have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Be Safe.
With exposure to the industry on both sides, I’d like to weigh in on this. Many want to know why the same “A” list stars are on the gospel show. Allow me to explain: it’s because these stars sell the most units and have the most name notariety and are the driving force on the gospel charts, therefore, to get sponsors and commercial partnerships they must remain apart. A McDonalds or Tide brand is not going to endorse a show that displays talent (that they are not familiar with) but rather stars. So in sense, those names will be headling the show for some-time. It’s one of those things that you chalk up to being “sad but true”.
HOWEVER…..doesn’t BET claim to be the place “where stars are made”? I know I have heard them make this statement. I happen to agree with 90% of these bloggers, I just happen to have more knoweledge of the industry, and I think someone in the production boardroom needs to listen up. After all, these are people that will give the show its ratings.
The vast array of talented gospel artists have always had a hard time with exposure. These are the peoeple who come to our churches for Sunday night concerts and midnight musicals, who’s songs are played on radio and sung on Sunday morning but just not as much as a Kirk or Donnie or Yolonda.
There is an entirely new generation of gospel greats arising and we deserve a chance. Yes, I am an artist; who’s songs have gone #1 on some radio markets but still have a hard time being considered for distribution oppotunities, walmart placement and major concerts. I had a secular-turned-christian distributor tell me once that it is harder to make it in Gospel than in the secualr industry. He said it’s because people in gospel don’t give you much of a chance. After all of my industry experience, I’d say thats true.
As you all can see, I can go on and on about this. However, I’ll just stay on my grind, for the sake of ministry. I’m not bitter, just bothered. I would like to be apart of a change in our blessed industry. If that never comes, it will be ok, I’m in it for ministry not industry anyway.

Come on BET! Not the same ole, same ole. I love Kirk, Bobby, Shirley and the Mary’s, but Gospel/Christain music is much broader than this. There are a lot of great artists out there that are making great strides in the industry (on the radio and billboard charts and in the churches and venues). If you need some help with your selection process, I would love to help.
What is your selection process? How do you go about selecting artist.
With this year’s line-up I see that the majority of the participants just newly released albums or about to release a new album, so its looking like a record label(s) showcase instead of a Celebration of Gospel. At most label showcases, the labels pay to have their artist on stage or sponsor the showcase themselves. Is this the case? Please let us know, because if so, I would strongly consider changing the name.
Please advise.
God Bless.
can’t wait 2 hear Keyshia Cole sing x)!
i think this gospel awards is a brilliant concept!! the fact that its a gospel award doesn’t mean only gospel personalities should grace the ocassion. its a celebration of music!! all or any artist can be present!! showcasing new talent as well as old are all a welcome inclusion. brilliant!
KEYSCHIA I LOVE YOUR SONG AND THE WAY IT IS .WHEN YOU SING.THAT REALLY COOL AND NICE. I LOVE YOU HAS A ARTIST AND YOU DO GOOD.
BUT I DON’T LIKE TO MUCH YOU EXPOSE YOUR LIFE ON NATIONAL TV TOO MUCH SOMETIME. AND NEFFE SHE TO BAD WITH HER OWN MOTHER NEED TO IMPROVE AND BE A BETTER NEFFE.NICE WITH HER MOTHER IF SHE SAID SHE LOVE HER MOM.
OK NOW BYE….
where is tye and Ga?
I have no problem with donnie. what is up with ll being there. i would rather see da truth
i have no dought in my mind that showcasing new talent should be an essential part of the show!! but in my opinion that is not to say that stars should not be part of the show simply because they have been around forever, cause these artists are selling! don’t get me wrong celebration of new life and new artists in gospel is also crucial here. perhaps the organisers should spell out the rational for selection and the esssence of the awards. a celebration of gospel should be at the forefront of this.
All Great Artists… But I See Dem 2 Muc …BET Add… New Acts… Like Kierra Sheard….Tye Tribett…..James Fortune…..Marvin Sapp….Spencer L Smith.
Artist Like Dem,,,, Tiz Is Their Year….
they are missing great music from Tye tribbett Da’ Truth, Joshua Troop and Youthful Praise
I believe everyone in here… christian music is more broader than this… I think that they have a religious ways when it comes to worshipping god.. They must dont know that God created everything in the earth and thereof.. meaning that nothing on this earth belong to us… we are just stewards over them… I think they need some hip hop type music… and as far as i can tell this wat the people want as well… Check out the way we worship god in hip hop music http://www.myspace.com/aokproduction... but dont get me wrong… wat i love to do more than rapping for him is worshiping him… Thanks for reading
I THINK LIL WAYNE, PLIES, AND TRINA SHOULD BE THERE ALSO!!!!!
Yeah, I understand ratings and sponsors and who’s A-list and whos not. But if you ask me the focus has been lost when it comes to this show. Man, there are soo many great artist that have great songs out that truly represent God. I have never seen a show where they just let God move it has always been about just what they say. A-List stara and sponsors. I mean what’s the problem.
