what happened to the clark sisters, judith mcallister, micah stampley, rance allen, bettye nelson, vanessa bell. Whoever said this i agree because we need some other people on there im tired of seeing the same old people. However, i believe it will still be good
judith mcallister needs to be there
I must honestly say, I am in no big rush to see or hear this years Celebration of Gospel. I, more than likely ,will choose something else to watch on the airing night due to the industry wanting “big names” as opposed to what we, the viewers want. These artist are overexposed. It’s okay to hear them but there is nothing so exciting about them that would make me call my friends and family to say “don’t miss C of G”. I hope and trust the industry understands that our interest are broader than to keep giving us the same performers every year. I think there has been wonderful insight on this blog as to who we like to hear. Out of the group that was named per BET C of G staff, I would be excited about Hez , he is anointed, he will do great, not to say the others aren’t great performers, I am just so over hearing them. This has been a tough year of recession, and a great year in that Obama won the white house. This year’s C of G should reflect that. Start out with “old school” Shirley C, Clark Sister’s and gradually work their way up to Tye, Detrick, Fred, Israel, Marvin, John P. Kee. I would love to see a praise and worship with Shekinah Glory, that song “Jesus” is awsome. A new artist showcase and a choir spotlight would be good as well. C of G needs to hold public suggestion-polls well before the program is set. If C of G does not listen to it’s listeners they will end up getting canceled like many shows before them.
I agree with most the bloggers in that there needs to be a different line up this time and from her on out! Keeping Steve is and will always will be a plus, but it the “same artists, every year”. You cannot do gospel shows the same way you would do the AMA’s, the grammy’s and other secular award shows because their are no awards to be given other than praise in song to the higher one!
The producers must’ve been thinking this way because they would not have asked the “same gospel artists” again and again, year after year!!!! Kanye West and Beyonce can appear on various award shows, singing the same hit song and it can be sung and arranged differently on every network: along with added visuals, costumes, dancers, etc…. You cannot do this approach with gospel artists because you either bring it, or you don’t!
I HOPE THAT KEYISHA COLE DOESN’T MESS UP THE SONG SHE IS SINGING SHE IS A OK SINGER MAYBE SHE NEEDS TO GET BACK IN THE CHURCH MAYBE HER VOCALS WILL GET BETTER!! BUT HEY WHO AM I TO JUDGE!!
I strongly agree with Sam, Sanna and the others.
“Keep Steve, but a new line up needs to be considered!!” I’m really not looking forward to next years performances.
“All gospel artists are emotional and you cannot go wrong with a new line because they already know where their blessings come from” They also don’t have the “greater than thou, larger than life” egos and pissy attitudes like the secular artists; most of whom cannot sing live and with a band anyway! This is one of many times that BET needs to read our comments and not take us bloggers for granted!!! Like Sanna mentioned, we could see yet another canceled program because the executives wouldn’t listen to the viewing public!
(The same artists makes you wonder what deal$ings and ca$tings are negoatiated behind the scene$ !!!!!)
I agree a little more contemporary gospel would be great. I love Tye and Israel but I would have loved to have seen William Murphy his song Empty me is simply beauiful
I love the show, but i’m old school. lets see artist like lee williams, mighty cloud of joy,the canton spirtuals. i like contemporary but i love down home gospel.
In this day an age we need all the inspiration we can get. The point of the show is the message that it sends. It does not matter to me who sings, as long as its true, and from the heart. I look forward to the show every year. God bless you all.
I agree with you all as far as having a variety of Gospel ministers….I would scream if Doobie sang…I was apart of the first group he started…and would be so excited… Doobie….Holla

I CAN NOT wait for this multi extravaganza event to happen. I know its going to be off the charts and I would not miss it for the world.
I am just so tired of being forced fed certain artists all of the time. Not only in gospel music, but in secular music too. I appreciate the fact that BET is even willing to have a gospel music show of this magnitude. But what’s disappointing is the fact that BET always plays it safe and almost never utilizes their full influential power to be a trendsetter or a game changer. BET could be that much needed media launchpad that the quality undiscovered black artists need. But instead they seem content with having the deep pockets of the major music industry dictate to them and keep them conforming rather than innovating. Now is the perfect time for a REAL Black Entertainment network to self-lessly come along and provide some long overdue competition for BET.
I think this show needs a different host or at least a co-host to add a lil flavor to it. When Kirk gets boring, that’s when they should stop having him. He’s not there yet. The Clark Sisters, Patti LaBelle, Kim Burell, Vanessa Bell, Kelly Price, Fantasia, J-hud will make a fabulous show. Oh and don’t forget Ricky Dillard to show you how a REAL choir sings.
I agree with all you bloggers. I have been to COB for 4 years in a row. It is the same artists. However, they should try and include 4 different choirs off the 4 coasts. They also need to allow others to share in the gift of song. I agree…Bishop Haddon, DaTruth, Pastor Sheryl Brady, Dr. Yvonne Capehart,. BET needs to mix it up. They did have Israel and the New Breed. They tore it up. Also, they need to show what goes on during the breaks because we rip it up in the Holy Spirit and have a blessed time. We truly get our praise on but you would never know. They cut out last year how….Marvin Sapp ministered to us. We need to pray for BET executive leaders because they don’t get it. You know what else. They had to use seat fillers to fill up the auditorium.
What about Hezekia Walker…………..Monique Walker, James Hall……….Micah Stampley……………Dorinda Clake Cole…………………………….Commodores (Jesus is Love)
I am still against this hip hop and gospel mix. Either you’re one or the other. You can’t be Godly on that one night then go back to your normal life of r&b and what not. Its not right and God don’t like it. And its not christians thats saying this, its God through us. He doesn’t like it and don’t approve. But yeah, if you haven’t been listening, why would you start listening now? Continue your hip hop gospel and all that nonsense. Yall will know in the end. Thats all i got to say.
I am just so tired of Kirk Franklin, he can’t even sing
best unrecognized gospel artist: Jason Nelson, Jonathan Dunn. if you don’t know, check out youtube and find out. Awesome singers AND song writers. both have had their songs covered by Marvin Sapp, especially Jonathan Dunn.
oK i AGREE also with everyone on the performers!!! Sick of the same people!! Where is PASTOR MARVIN WINANS?? (my husband lol naw just kidding I love this man!!) He has an excellent new cd which came out last Sept. “Alone but not alone’!! YES there alot of new artist that are being over looked! I’m surprise Yoloanda Adams and Fred Hammond isnt on there! they used to be on like all these others……….I mean old school of course is always good but theres more people out there then Shirley Ceasar!!! why LLCOOL J and Kesha Cole??? ok this I gotta see!! nothing about them says “Gospel”!! PLEASE!! where is the Detroit folks?? The clark sound(although there on alot of things) but i have never seen them on COB. Steve Harvey again?? I don’t know…….
Lynn please, just plan ignorant. People they can’t put everybody on the show, it would never go off. I think they pick some off the artist, not all of them, because of the substance of gospel music they sing. Their songs have substance and mean something unlike all that beebooping around to gospel music. I’m a young person and I like old and new gospel, but it has to have some spiritual meaning to it. Now I do agree, I am tired of seeing Kirk Franklin, I haven’t really felt his music since he left the family(Kirk Franklin and the Family). Also tired of seeing Dr. Bobbie Jones also.???? Some of the Great Aritist have been on there before. I remeber seeing Marvin Sapp, Kelly Price (Love her), Fantasia, and The Clark Sisters last year or the year before. Oh my gosh, Kat I totally agree with you. I have never thought keysha was a great singer, she just sing great songs. Let’s pray for her and that voice of hers. If she just sing and let God use her she will be alright. I think it’s still going to be a great show just as long as God gets ALL the glory. Much Love!
