May 11th, 2009

People…. the best way to beat a racist like David is to complete ignore him and his ignorant comments. Apparently, he love being able to communicate with our people (probably because his won’t give him the time of day), because he is always the first to respond. No matter what he says about us as a people or Obama, he apparently LOVES us. Why else would he even be on this site? Simple… no one else will even talk with him and we should do the same. Not even dignify his ignorance and prejudice with a comment. After all, we are ALL much more savvy and classy than to lower our level to his.

The president being black does have significance, although not for the reason for which David was speaking towards. We need to hold people accountable regardless of who they are. Yes, I voted for Obama but that does not mean I will excuse a bad decision on his behalf anymore than the next person. We except things shoved down our throats because we are often caught up in it’s packaging. We should not down our instituitions because there has been a poor decision to reduce their funding. This isn’t new idea to under fund black colleges, read the case law on the subject. For a long time states have been getting away with under funding black colleges. It is true that many of our institutions are lacking in some respect, but it is also true that many majority institutions are as well. Most HBCUs do a fine job with the limited resources they have, I attended one of those institutions. I received everything I needed from Tuskegee University.

Just like any schools ALL HBCUs are not created equal! I went to Xavier University in Louisiana. It is a good school, especially for Pre-Med, Pharmacy and other majors. Don’t lump all HBCUs together. You wouldn’t lump all majority white schools together and the same applies. XU!!

The HBCU have been struggling for the last 40 years or more. The facilities were not that great in the 60s and 70s either, some had to sleep the the gymn on old army bunk beds or cots. They do ask for donations, gifts, etc. but they still do not get enough public support. The number of HBCUs are much smaller now and we should expect to lose a few more in the coming years. We must also understand that a lot there is an issue with the quality of instructions at all schools not just HBCUs. Most HBCU grads move on to post grad to non HBCU institutions. Now that young students have a broader opportunity to be admitted the HBCUs will not be the first choice for a lot of students. One of our grandchildren will be attending Norfolk State this fall, but is determined to become a MD, but at another institution (John Hopkins), nephew will be attending school in UOL in Kentucky and another will be attending LaSalle. Each received a full scholarship. A young student just transferred from a HBCU after three years to a non HBCU institution, she was not satisfied with her education process while there and the faculty. In the early 80s the signs were there when most of the HBCU benefactors stopped their support. The “John and Jane Q Publics” that do not see the big picture because it is not available.
President Obama is doing his job as the President and doing it well with what the previous one left. President Obama stated that we all would have to do our part to get the economy healthy again. Putting the money in the student’s hand may not be a bad idea, and not in the hands of the school.
If they are in need of repair and maintenance, then much have not changed in the last 45 years. For those of you that are planning or attending HBCUs, you still have to represent, do better than your best and exceed above the rest. For those of you that are smarter than everyone else, please do not let them know.

What type of sense does that make that in Africa the schools supposedly give the best education to blacks? That has to be the most insignificant thing I have heard this week. Why do plenty you all continue to attend HBCU’s then? Native Africans are hilarious. Attending an HBCU is more than an experience. It provides encouragement and education to those who might not have had other means. Many of the students leave those instiutions with a greater since of education and hard work. Most of the black students in graduate school came from HBCU’s. As far as tuition, I never understood why the private HBCU’s were so costly. I went to a state HBCU. I know plenty of students who went to D1 and even IVY League schools who are “educated fools”. They lack people skills and leave with an attitude that an employer owes them something and end up without any jobs offers. You leave school thousands of dollars in debt feeling sorry for yourself. It’s what you do with the education that you received that matters most. A degree is only a piece of paper that states that you have the ability to reiterate what you have learned.

I trust that our president will do what is best for everybody. And please read the entire article because a lot of you obviously just read the title and voiced your opinon. I guess you might be one of those so-called educated fools. And by the way, I am gainfully employed within my field of study. This is something that very few people can claim these days.
What people do not realize is that many white people attend these universities to for a free education. There are even a couple who have a majority white population.

LOLOLOL… Read, Research and then form an opinion.. Please!!!!!!!!!!! I learned that at my HBCU…

I don’t agree with segregation in any form and wish we all could see ourselves as citizens of the world instead of citizens of our race or ethnicity.

In addition, can some of you learn how to spell and use proper subject-verb agreement?

When I attended Savannah State University the money wasn’t there either now what. Find out where the problem is and try to work it out from there and see how it goes.
