Black Students Given Fake “Ghetto” Names in Yearbook
June 28th, 2008“Tay Tay Shaniqua,” “Crisphy Nanos” and “Laquan White” are some of the fake “ghetto” names placed under photos of African American Students at Charter Oaks High School in a suburb of Los Angeles. A few of the students suspect that the act was a tasteless prank but they, as well as their parents, remain outraged. “A yearbook is very significant and something you always hold on to,” said Toi Jackson, whose daughter, Evanne, is member of the school’s Black Student Union. “When she shows it to her kids she will have to explain why she has the name Crisphy.” The local school board president called the act atrocious and said he has identified the student responsible. To add insult to injury, the school passed out stickers with the correct names for the students to place in the yearbook. For parents of the affected students, that gesture is not enough. They are demanding a full reprint of the yearbook.
FYI: there are physically more white people in Jail .. however there is a higher % of blacks in jail (compared to themselves). blacks make up about 12.5%of americas populatio. even if everyblack person was in jail the # wouldet be in our favor. Liers figure and figures lie. The sad part is even if you google “#of whies/blacks in jail” you will most likely get the RATIO. the Ration dosent give you the raw fact. Even still– this world is racist.

Sade: Your whole comment is mentioning the obvious. There is a huge discrepancy between the white/black population in the US…HUGE. I am talking per capita, and the raw # of Black men who commit VIOLENT CRIMES. You didn’t shine any light onto something new. In addition, there are plenty of Blacks that are racist…believe this. Blacks are not the perpetual victims…there are many racist blacks…many.

You can not only fault the students, you must also fault the yearbook staff. Yes the prank was cruel and unamuzing, but the staff gets proofs. Proofs are samples of what the actual page will look like. If they had paid close attention they would have seen these mistakes in the names and could have corrected them before they were sent to the press. If the students are to be punished, then the entire yearbook staff should have to suffer as well. It is their job and responsibilty to look for any mistakes and make sure that they are all corrected and perfect.

That’s ridiculous! Yes DEMMAND a reprint i remember hearing bout a similar incident at a different school but this was the actual picture and they received reprints.

dosent matter UMLAW: so my point is your are more likely to have a white commit a crime. Blacks are racist too! Yes I do agree, but because (for the most part)they/we are not in a position of authority by the mass…the black racist wont even put a dent in the white community. UMLAW- you really need to try to understand the black view. Its very tricky.
Ok first of all the adults who are in charge of the yearbook should be charged with this one as well as the children who did it. I don’t care what you name your child because it is your child and understand that they have to live with that name. Now to you BIG CHOCOLATE who are you to say black people are to blame. No they are not. Silly uneducated people are to blame. By the way black people are not the only ones who give their children different names. The comment made about white people being upset if the yearbook said Bill, Becky, or something like that. Yes they would and should be upset if that is not their name just like the students that this happened to. They have a right to be upset and so do their parents.
Sade: No, you are more likely that a Black man in his early to late 20s will commit a violent crime over anyone else. I know that the Black racists, in the whole, have little power, but the aforementioned violent crimes DOES HURT EVERY COMMUNITY.
You need to understand the view point from ‘outside of the community’ as well. Why do you think most races hates the Black community? (not saying they should).
They should reprint the book period. Naming our children different types of names are bad and looked down upon? WHY? I guess we are better off naming our kids Becky, Heather, Tom because they fit in some mold of society. Point blank people need to be respectful if her name is Tasha then her name should’ve been Tasha under her picture in that yearbook. Again another tasteless prank made by another ignorant person. Besides why are blacks the brunt of these type of pranks. Are we to be ashamed we named our children Sheniqua or Tyquan? I dont think its anything to be ashamed of. I dont think we should have to fit in to be accepted by some sort of western idea of what is acceptable either, especially when it comes to names.
