December 20th, 2008Blacks lack TV presence in 2008, NAACP says. Time was back in the day, Blacks often stopped whatever they were doing to run to the television for a rare glimpse of their own complexion. Many years later, the NAACP says a “serious shortage” of Blacks on prime-time TV threatens to turn back the clock – and the Tyler Perrys of the industry can only do so much. “At a time when the country is excited about the election of the first African-American president in U.S. history, it is unthinkable that minorities would be so grossly under-represented on broadcast television,” NAACP president Benjamin Todd Jealous states in the report, “Out of Focus, Out of Sync: Take 4.” A virtual disappearance of Black-targeted programming has occurred since the WB and UPN networks merged two years ago, according to the report. Among the top four networks’ shows, only CBS’ “The Unit,” CW’s, “Everybody Hates Chris” and the CW’s “The Game” are led by Black casts, according to the study. The NAACP urges the formation of a task force including network execs, educators and activists to address the alleged shortage.
There is a shortage of blacks on tv, however, if the slots are only going to be filled with insignificant crap; then leave us out and turn the tv off. Now that is what we need to do–turn the tv off and get back to families doing things together instead of every individual of a household held up in different rooms watching different crap.
We need to shut down the media just as we proved our point by voting. The time is now to write letters, protest, etc. We just continue to allow folks to run us. We are mightier than we think just to lazy to take action. We are not for movements. We just worry about what will happen if I speak up. Then we say we will stand up then get cold feet. This is why we are eating scraps now.
Who are you to tell thems who goes on tv? When you buy your own tv network you can put who ever color peeps you want on it . How does telling them what to do help race relations ? Typical from unedumacated morons.

Stop hating on Tyler Perry…what are you doing for the black community. At least he’s showing black family issues from a spiritual perspective in his plays. Who are you to question his faith? What black shows have to created? What are you doing in the black community?
I’ve been feeling like this for along time. Here I was watching,” Moesha and the Parkers”, wainting for the season to start again to see who was pregnant on “Moesha” or to see if Nikki and Prof. Olgovie of the “Parkers” really got married or was it just a dream. And how about when “Half & Half”, “One-on-One”, “All of Us” and my all-time favorite “Girlfriends” get taken off the air is beyound me. I also remember when the show “The Womens of Brewster Place” went off the air. It’s just sad to see that we don’t have any really good shows that portays strong black people anymore. But rest assure if its a reality show that shows black people either willing to humilate themselves or by showing that they can make a quick buck from other blacks in the entertainment industry, think “P.Diddy and 50 cent. I think both those shows and any shows related should be taken off the air to make way for some real Black Television

how many of these shows provide good role models for children and adults? Not many no matter what race. Whites may have it worse than blacks… it seems there is no limit as to how “stupid” they can try to make white adults (especially males) appear on may sitcoms. This goes for commercials as well.

Well I don’t know what the big deal is. Blacks still get to see sporting events so they can dream of getting their down low on with the athaletes. And really are there that many blacks that have a TV anyway.
