Nobody asks for this disease and nobody deserves to be shunned when they find out that they are infected. That is when they need family and friends and to be surrounded by love the most. Fear of the unknown causes many people to act ignorant. If you love them before they got sick…you love them until the end. There is no cure for this disease BUT we do know how it’s transported (exchange of body fluids) and how to prevent it!. PROTECT YOURSELF EVERY TIME AND WHEN IN DOUBT GET TESTED!

People are ashame of coming out because of how their familes and friends may view them. Some people are not educated about the diease, and I feel that they need to began teaching more about it in schools, because of the growing number. When people living with the disease tell someone, folks slowly drift away from them. Thats why alot of people do not tell leaving them to die/suffer with the diease alone.

Hey Dessie,

I appreciate you willingness to share. Hopefully someone else reads this and is encouraged to do what it takes to protect themselves. I think the world needs more testimonials about those that are living with the disease. Not to put their business out there but so others can be encouraged. It would be nice to see a documentary or a book with real stories. It could bring Aids Awareness to the fore front in a non-fiction way. Thanks again Dissie for sharing. Blessings

I was in Chicago in 2001-2002 for a year and having come from South Africa where almost every person is HIV positive according to health stats, i was surprised that the American men that i had intimate relations with would just want to engage without any protection but i made them as i did not want to be just another numbe in the AIDS pandemic. It is a misconception that AIDS is only rampant in Africa and i am glad Americans are starting to take it as seriously as we all should thoughout the world. I have personally lost an aunt and a few relatives are infected at the moment but i must say people are starting to take care of themselves and even when one has it, they live longer as they are aware of what should be done. From the story posted, it sounds to me like some people over there are only knowing about their status only when they get admitted into hospital. It is imperative that people get tested as long as one knows they have engaged in unprotected sex. Let’s get tested so we can best take care of ourselves.

AIDS is real people!
