Chicago Clergymen Stand By Burris
January 6th, 2009
Former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris isn’t getting much love from President-elect Barack Obama or members of Congress these days, but scores of African-American clergy are lining up to support the controversial appointment of embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich. On Sunday, about 60 ministers were called together by Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.), who has been critical of his fellow Democrats in Congress for rejecting Burris. Come on Burris is giving them too much Reverend AL. You know you can only sprinkle a little of Reverend AL because they get too nervous….
Guess what, Obama is the 44th President of the United States of America, that means we all have him as our president for at least 4 years (most likely 8!)
These ministers need to march on violence, poverty, education!!! What a joke. This is really some out of style, out of touch, away from reality b.s.!
Burris needs to take on a meek and humble spirit at this point. He doesn’t need to appear too anxious or mouthy at a very deligate time. I think if Obama came off like that, that he wouldn’t have become our president elect. As blacks, somewhere we must learn to take on a quiet spirit and not be so ready to fight. You’ve got to remember, the weapons of our warfare is not carnal, but spiritual. The last thing these people want in the senate is someone that doesn’t know how to control his temperment.
Roland Burris says he’s been in Illinois politics for over 20 years… he says he knows Illinois like no one else… Perhaps… I dont recall anything outstanding that he has done… enlighten me! with the Governor KNOWING whomever he appointed for the Senate would be rejected… I wonder is that why he appointed BURRIS? What was their relationship before this? Why did the Governor say anything regarding an appointment to the Senate? Why is he not stepping down? It’s clear the majority of the PEOPLE want him out. I’m not talking about the politicians, clergy, or his so called friends those who once broke bread with him, took jobs from him… I’m talking about the regular folk of Illinois. Though I like and support the Governor, I’m beginning to wonder was he ever really for the PEOPLE?
Any appointment or decision made by a politician under federal investigation should be considered suspect and tainted, especially a Senate position that holds significant and historic value! Mr. Burris has allowed himself to be used and possibly has ended his long political career. I think he should have allowed this appointment to pass him by because of the Illinois Gov.’s alleged wrong doing AND the fact that he may NOT BE QUALIFIED for the position. Mr. Burris, you have been played! Get out while you can. This is STILL a white man’s game. Choose wisely……..
