President Michael Lomax wants Congress to guarantee education for all

Clark Atlanta Students
The United Negro College Fund wants America to guarantee that students of color – poor and otherwise – get an opportunity to  students get an opportunity to go to college and graduate.  On Tuesday, one of the nation’s oldest minority education advocacy groups issued “The ABC Agenda for Higher Education,” which calls for increased access and affordability. “If ever there was a time to push for what our students and colleges need, this is it,” said UNCF President Michael L. Lomax.  Find out more about the plan at BET.com/News.

Most colleges and universities already get federal assistance. The unfortunate thing about some (not all) HBCU’s is the alumni and the administration. HBCUs historically have had issues with high default rates on student loans. If default rates are too high, it jeopardizes the funding that schools get. The second issue at some (not all) schools is the waste and corruption. Grades for money, misuse of funds and other scandals don’t do much to help either. Lastly I’ll say that alumni of HBCUs should pay it forward. Contribute to your school whenever and however possible. Whether it’s time or money. I’m so tired of us always wanting the government to do something to “create” access for us. If these schools are producing the best and brightest, then it’s clear that we already have the resources to help ourselves.

The ABC Agenda should be used as a resource to aid in providing more funds to HBCU’s. It would be money very well spent. Education is always a sound investment. I fully believe that gov’t should do more to help underprivileged and minorities get higher education than it currently does and I totally agree with affirmative action. Often qualified blacks would not get into certain schools without it. I think it’s wonderful that blacks are getting doctorate degree in the most demanding fields. But don’t forget about business! We need more black doctorate degree students; especially in accounting. See the website below. There’s going to be a shortage of PhD’s in business and there’s always been a shortage of black PhD’s. It’s unfortunate that due to racism the perception is that a degree from an HBCU is not worth as much as one from those other schools. Just another obstacle that blacks have to deal with in our climb towards the American dream. But just like with those other schools of higher education; some HBCU’s are not as good as other HBCU’s.

For anyone interested in learning more about getting a doctorate degree in business. Check out this wonderful organization; google “the PhD Project”

We Shall Overcome. Some Day.

When we achieve a revolution in education to achieve an evolution for our youth . . .

We Shall Overcome. Some Day.

When we all work together to uplift our young generation so they soar to new heights, and take us to a brighter future and better planet . . .

We Shall Overcome. Some Day.

If we continue to encourage others to actively participate in improving the quality of life and learning for our children.

Some Day.

We Shall Overcome.

And, together, we will show the world how beautiful, smart and special they really are.

You people need to stop being so cheap and pay for advertising your websites in the proper forum. This ain’t it. It’s distracting and annoying.
