Comedian Bernie Mac Is Dead

Comedian Bernie Mac died at Northwestern Memorial hospital in Chicago early this morning, reports the Chicago Sun TImes. The funny standup comedian and star of televison’s popular Bernie Mac show was 50.
Mary Ann Grossett, Mac’s sister-in-law spoke with People Magazine, sharing details of her famous inlaw’s final struggle:
He couldn’t breathe. He opened his eyes on his own and looked at Rhonda (his wife). She called his name, and he opened his eyes and nodded to her. She smiled at him and told him, ‘Don’t leave me … ‘I’m waiting for you to come back.’ He shrugged his shoulders, and she said that’s when she knew he was tired. He signaled to her that his body was tired….
[The doctors] were working on him. They tried to resuscitate him two times. One time he came back for about an hour. Then he went into cardiac arrest the second time.
His cause of death has not been officially reported but Mac has been hospitalized with Pneumonia for about a week, as reported by BET.com last week.
Stella Foster, the Chicago Sun Times reporter who broke the story says “It brought tears to my eyes because Bernie Mac has always been my all-time favorite entertainer and comedian. It pains me to have to report that,” Foster said during a phone interview on Saturday morning.
Entertainment mogul Russell Simmons has a rack of Bernie Mac stories but one particularly funny one stands out. “When he saw the lead-in comedian get booed off stage in his first nationally televised appearance on Def Comedy Jam,” Simmons told BET.com, “he coined one his most, if not his single most loved lines. He said “I aint scared of you mother*******”. And at least for part of his career that became his calling card. I just remembered that and it made me laugh”

Wow, I am so shocked as I just read yesterday he was improving. My heart and prayers are with his family and friends!
What sad news, Bernie Mac was such a talented, funny and wonderful performer. My thoughts go out to his wife and daughter and all of his family and friends who are mourning his far too early death.
We really need to find cures for these horrible cancers that cause so much pain and kill so many wonderful and deeply loved people and leave behind so many grief stricken loved ones.
The only solace is that Bernie Mac lives on in all his films and his delightfully funny and sweet sitcom, “the Bernie Mac Show” and in all his tv appearances, he is alive forever in those. If there is an afterlife I hope he is in his paradise and is somehow able to let his grieving loved ones know that he is there and is watching over them in this tough world.
BERNIE MAC IS LIKE A FAMILY MEMBER TO ALL OF US. THE LAUGHTER HE BROUGHT TO OUR HEARTS WILL BE MISSED. I READ A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO THAT HE HAD SARCOIDOSIS. WOW!! When my sister called me just a few moments ago to give me the news, a lot of things came rushing back. I have been where Bernie’s wife is. I just want to say to her that God is able!!! Take the time to remember all of the good things and good times you two had (personally) together. Even though he was famous and we share those things with you, remember your private times, before the fame, w/o all of the cameras lights etc.
Born & raised in the Chicago area, I had the pleasure of meeting Bernie a couple of times, while out and about. I have been so proud of him over the years. If it sounds like I knewhim personally, it’s because, that’s how I felt as if he were family.

He will truly be missed. He is like famliy to us. Watching The Bernie Mac Show every night is part of our family tv time. Once we were in Macys and my son looked at this woman and said “Do you know who Bernie Mac is?” she replied “Well, yes” my son said to her “Dont you know that hes my Brutha!?” she said “how is he your brother?” he said “No! My Brutha!” my son was about 5 at the time. You see he was like a relative of ours his show was like a remix of the Cosby show. The Cosby show with a little extra collard greens on the side. Our family will dearly miss our Brutha Bernie Mac.

When I got up this morning and got a text message that Bernie Mac had died, my heart sang and my reaction was that I hoped it wasn’t true. This man was a comedy GREAT and in my opinion, the absolute best King of Comedy. He stole the show and he can never be replaced. I send my prayers toward the family and the entire comedy circle. It just goes to show that we have to be ready at any moment for the unexpected.

I had followed Bernie’s carrer since he was on Def Comedy Jam in the 1990’s. He blew up from there to become one of the Kings of Comedy. And from there he became a TV and a movie star. I just wished that He was well accepted when he had performed for Obama campaign and caught some flak for his comments. But what did they expect? The man is a comedian! But as sad as it seems, there was somebody else who accepted him above everybody, and that was the Lord himself. The Lord had brought him home to a place where there is no sorrow, no pain, no sickness and no racism. But yet he is now in place where there is evelasting joy, and laughter! I was saddened this morning when I found out that one of Chicago’s Greatest Comedians passed away. My condolences to Mr. Bernie Mac’s immediate family and television families and friends. May God give you all the strength and comfort during this difficult our.

The clerk wouldn’t take his $20 so my friend bought the popcorn for him, he was so nice he came back and just gave the $20 to my friend. You will be missed! am very sad to hear of the passing of Bernie Mac. Friday, I had read that he was making a recovery from his bout with pneumonia, so you could imagine my shock to hear that he had passed. I never met Bernie Mac, but it was something about him that made you feel as if you knew him. I will keep his wife, Rhonda, child(ren), grandchild(ren) and other members of his immediate and extended family in my prayers. We have truly lost a jewel.
My family and I love Bernie Mac and his legacy will always live on he is our families favorite comedian and we will miss him…We are praying for family and friends and know he will alway live on.

I remember going to see Kings of Comedy and thinking this was the best comedy movie that I’d seen since the early 80’s when Eddie Murphy did Raw and Delirious, until Bernie Mack’s set. Then it became the best comedy movie ever. My brother had the same lung condition that Bernie had and died at 34, he too was a funny dude and I just wish that I had the ability to meet him and let him know that the laughs that he provided helped me and my family get through that difficult period. My prayers go out to the Mack family and Berine will be missed.

I rememeber when I briefly met him in Memphis when The Kings of Comedy were here and he seemed a little shy off stage but on stage he gave great performace. Even though Bernie Mac was not a personal friend or blood related family member, I feel like a have lost an uncle who always kept the family laughing. May God Rest his soul and keep his friends and family wrapped in his Loving Arms. And Remember that God does not make mistakes.

This is truly devastating news. I was told he died a few days ago and was saddened by the news. I was then made aware that it was just a ridiculous rumor and was quite relieved. I am such a huge fan of his and will always be.
My day started with a call from a friend to let me know he died this morning and I was again devastated. Then I started to remember his jokes and his BIG smile and decided I should celebrate his life rather than mourn his death. He was such a great performer and will always be my favorite comedian. I was just watching Transformers last night and though his part was small, it made me laugh in a big way!

Bernie Mac is a legend. He will be truly missed! I send peace and blessings out to his family. Comedy will never be the same without him. He was one of a kind. I will miss you and you always have a place in my heart.
Bernie mac had the same disease that my sister died from It’s called sarcodosis and it destroys your lungs there is little known about what causes this disease. may Bernie rest in peace because there is no more pain, My condolences to the family.

I was shocked to hear that Bernie Mac died this morning. He was awesome, very funny and very talented. WE’LL MISS YOU! My prayers go out to his family and friends during their time of loss…
