Comedian Bernie Mac Is Dead

Comedian Bernie Mac died at Northwestern Memorial hospital in Chicago early this morning, reports the Chicago Sun TImes. The funny standup comedian and star of televison’s popular Bernie Mac show was 50.
Mary Ann Grossett, Mac’s sister-in-law spoke with People Magazine, sharing details of her famous inlaw’s final struggle:
He couldn’t breathe. He opened his eyes on his own and looked at Rhonda (his wife). She called his name, and he opened his eyes and nodded to her. She smiled at him and told him, ‘Don’t leave me … ‘I’m waiting for you to come back.’ He shrugged his shoulders, and she said that’s when she knew he was tired. He signaled to her that his body was tired….
[The doctors] were working on him. They tried to resuscitate him two times. One time he came back for about an hour. Then he went into cardiac arrest the second time.
His cause of death has not been officially reported but Mac has been hospitalized with Pneumonia for about a week, as reported by BET.com last week.
Stella Foster, the Chicago Sun Times reporter who broke the story says “It brought tears to my eyes because Bernie Mac has always been my all-time favorite entertainer and comedian. It pains me to have to report that,” Foster said during a phone interview on Saturday morning.
Entertainment mogul Russell Simmons has a rack of Bernie Mac stories but one particularly funny one stands out. “When he saw the lead-in comedian get booed off stage in his first nationally televised appearance on Def Comedy Jam,” Simmons told BET.com, “he coined one his most, if not his single most loved lines. He said “I aint scared of you mother*******”. And at least for part of his career that became his calling card. I just remembered that and it made me laugh”

I have loved Bernie since the first time I saw him on Def Comedy Jam. YOU are so missed Bernie!!! To his family my thoughts and prayers are with you now and always!!
I know it’s hard to continue living without him but God needed him most. God saw how he endured throughout the years and gave him his precious wings on Saturday. Rhonda continue to be the rock for this family. God will keep you in perfect peace. God’s love will shower down continously and heal the broken hearts from this transition. I will miss the “Mac Man”. But it’s good to know that his Transition is now a Treasure in Paradise. God plucked a flower on Saturday morning, but his fragrance will always linger. Love and Peace be with you family.
My deepest sympathy to the family and all of those that loved Bernie. May the love of God comfort you at this time. Knowing him through his sense of humor and actting was enough to love him. I’ll miss hearing that ‘unique’ voice and wonderful smile…love you Bernie, you were one of a kind-rest in peace.

No king’s of comedy without Bernie Mac. He will be missed. Trust in god Mac family and he will watching you all from heaven.

God is too wise to make a mistake and too good to do wrong. From one wife to another, I cannot tell you i know how you feel, because i do not. With one second at a time, God will give you ease your pain.
Bernie Mac thank you for laughter that you have given to the world. Your trademark will always be here and it will never leave our remembrance. My heart goes out to your family you may not be here in the physical form, but you will always be here in spirit. Thanks for the memories and you will be missed dearly.
I would like to give my condolences to Bernie Mac’s widow Rhonda and his daughter, family and friends. I am deeply sadden by your loss. Bernie Mac was a classic guy. It showed in his engery as a performer. The kind of performer that really made you visualize the characters or events he described in his jokes. Not to mention he was a sharp dresser who took pride in his appearance. I have been a fan of his long before he became a household legend. We will miss him, but God needs him.

I LOVED BERNIE HE WAS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE HE WILL BE MISSED MORE THEN ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD WHEN I FIND OUT THAT BERNIE MAC HAD DIED I BROKE DOWN I CANT BELIEVE HES TIME HAS COME MY HEART IS GONE I WILL NEVER FORGET HIM I MET BERNIE PLENTY OF TIMES BECAUSE HE LIVE WHERE I WAS BORN AND RAISED AND THATS CHICAGO ILLINOIS.
