Comedian Bernie Mac Is Dead

Comedian Bernie Mac died at Northwestern Memorial hospital in Chicago early this morning, reports the Chicago Sun TImes. The funny standup comedian and star of televison’s popular Bernie Mac show was 50.
Mary Ann Grossett, Mac’s sister-in-law spoke with People Magazine, sharing details of her famous inlaw’s final struggle:
He couldn’t breathe. He opened his eyes on his own and looked at Rhonda (his wife). She called his name, and he opened his eyes and nodded to her. She smiled at him and told him, ‘Don’t leave me … ‘I’m waiting for you to come back.’ He shrugged his shoulders, and she said that’s when she knew he was tired. He signaled to her that his body was tired….
[The doctors] were working on him. They tried to resuscitate him two times. One time he came back for about an hour. Then he went into cardiac arrest the second time.
His cause of death has not been officially reported but Mac has been hospitalized with Pneumonia for about a week, as reported by BET.com last week.
Stella Foster, the Chicago Sun Times reporter who broke the story says “It brought tears to my eyes because Bernie Mac has always been my all-time favorite entertainer and comedian. It pains me to have to report that,” Foster said during a phone interview on Saturday morning.
Entertainment mogul Russell Simmons has a rack of Bernie Mac stories but one particularly funny one stands out. “When he saw the lead-in comedian get booed off stage in his first nationally televised appearance on Def Comedy Jam,” Simmons told BET.com, “he coined one his most, if not his single most loved lines. He said “I aint scared of you mother*******”. And at least for part of his career that became his calling card. I just remembered that and it made me laugh”

I would just like to tell the Mac family how sorry I am that something like this could have happened to a person so beautiful and full of life. My prayers are with you all and I hope that we can all live for Bernie for I do believe that he lives in us. God Bless. Just to add that Mr. Mac always made me cry from laughing so hard. I wish he could just give me one more joke to let us all know that we will be ok.

LOSING BERNIE MAC IS REALLY HARD TO TAKE EVEN THOUGH HE’S IN A BETTER PLACE. THE COMEDY WORLD AS A WHOLE HAS LOST ONE OF THE ORIGINAL KINGSOFCOMEDY. MY HEARTFELT PRAYERS GOES TO HIS FAMILY, HIS FRIENDS AND ALL OF US WHO LOVED HIM. BERNIE MAC CANNOT BE DUPLICATED. Being overseas, I couldn’t believe it when I got the call about Bernie Mac passing. I was in total disbelief and still am and will always be. Although I didn’t actually know him, I know he graced me with more laughs than almost any person I know. The world has indeed lost a great person let alone comedian. Things will never be the same. Laughter will never be the same again. We must continue to keep his friends and familiy memembers in our prayers and keep his legacy alive. After seeing the obiturary, did it really set in that he was gone and I had to step outside and cry. Bernard Jeffrey McCollough you will never be forgotten and we know that you are making them smile and laugh in heaven as you did here on earth.

We love some people we love some friends, but yet we loose them for something we don’t understand.We may love them deeply we may love them strong, but in the world today they don’t stay long.Mr.Mac was a nice outstanig person just to see him go it’s not worth it, we may pay the cost of some love ones, but Bernie Mac we miss you and we know that you can’t come back.But we will say we miss Bernie Mac.1 day we may not see it comin but we know you will touch us but right now it’s rest in peace Bernie Mac. Bernie Mac what can the whole WORLD say, But that we all love the joy you have brought in2 our lives & home!!!! Your work is done & GOD says it is time to come on home baby doll. To your btfl wife & the nieces along w/your nephew in whom GOD placed in your life to take care of may the Lord richly bless your hearts in a time of grief. Bernie Mac was very very funny! Being an Evangelist, the cursing was a bit too much at times. But he was very real when it came to where he came from and I have read that he was a real father and husband to his family! And an excellent provider, he showed true love to his wife ! And that is so important now a days to see in a Black man to show is love to his wife and support her; especially from a Black woman’s stand point. I saw in Bernie Mac True Black Male and role model to other upcoming Black men in this profession of entertainment and his own community. He will be missed by all and missd by me. He was a realist ! We will miss “YOU” and your HUGE smile! ! and also, your extreme talent as a comic and FOREVER and UPSTANDING Black role model for your fellow brotha’s and their male children! Thanks Mr. Bernie Mac for making your life possible for all of your brotha’s and your sista’s who you affected in such a powerful manner and way in Blackness and laughter before you were called home. LOL (lots of laughter)
As funny as this human being was, he is surely going to be missed, but not forgotten! Bernie made a laugh into tears which someone like him suppose to do. There were shows where I just had to turn off the set for a few seconds to catch my breath, but when the set was turned back on, there he was again, just a crazy as someone shouldn’t be. Bernie, heaven will never be the same, you will be the only angel who clips his wings and fry them all the same! You’ll be missed, but the laughs will continue. God bless to the family!
