Comedian Bernie Mac Is Dead

Comedian Bernie Mac died at Northwestern Memorial hospital in Chicago early this morning, reports the Chicago Sun TImes. The funny standup comedian and star of televison’s popular Bernie Mac show was 50.
Mary Ann Grossett, Mac’s sister-in-law spoke with People Magazine, sharing details of her famous inlaw’s final struggle:
He couldn’t breathe. He opened his eyes on his own and looked at Rhonda (his wife). She called his name, and he opened his eyes and nodded to her. She smiled at him and told him, ‘Don’t leave me … ‘I’m waiting for you to come back.’ He shrugged his shoulders, and she said that’s when she knew he was tired. He signaled to her that his body was tired….
[The doctors] were working on him. They tried to resuscitate him two times. One time he came back for about an hour. Then he went into cardiac arrest the second time.
His cause of death has not been officially reported but Mac has been hospitalized with Pneumonia for about a week, as reported by BET.com last week.
Stella Foster, the Chicago Sun Times reporter who broke the story says “It brought tears to my eyes because Bernie Mac has always been my all-time favorite entertainer and comedian. It pains me to have to report that,” Foster said during a phone interview on Saturday morning.
Entertainment mogul Russell Simmons has a rack of Bernie Mac stories but one particularly funny one stands out. “When he saw the lead-in comedian get booed off stage in his first nationally televised appearance on Def Comedy Jam,” Simmons told BET.com, “he coined one his most, if not his single most loved lines. He said “I aint scared of you mother*******”. And at least for part of his career that became his calling card. I just remembered that and it made me laugh”

Just wanted to let the family know that the sorrow you’re feeling is hard but just remember to hang on to GOD’s unchanging hand. Bernie is heaven right now and I want him to watch over my grandson who’s an angel up there now since Aug. 10th. I know he don’t have a son or grandson but watch over my grandson. I was in Walmart when I learned that Bernic had passed. Later that day, I went home and put on my Def Comedy Jam DVD of Mac. My family and I laughed so hard. Def Comedy Jam had come to DC and we were expecting to see Martin Lawrence as the emcee, Bernie came out instead. We were upset because we expected Martin. Bernie started going into his thing, my sister and I laughed so hard, our stomachs hurt. We were literally bent over. We couldn’t wait until those comedians came on and did thier that, so that Bernie could return and do his thing. From that day on, he forever owned a piece of our hearts. RIP Bernie, we love you and will forever miss you. I pray for your family and the milliions of fans.
I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT MY HEART GOES OUT DEEPLY TO BERNIE MAC’S WIFE AND CHILDREN AS WELL AS HIS FAMILY ALSO TO THE COMEDIANS WHOM HAVE WORKED WITH HIM AS WELL AS THE CAST OF “THE BERNIE MAC SHOW”. It’s so sad that you had to go. We were blessed to have you in our lives for the time that we did.I always turned to comedy every time i was feeling down and out. Watching you on t.v. , all the laughter and smiles from the crowd along with mine always did it for me.You’re gone now to a better place where you are in peace and gracing the lord with your presence.There is no one like you and there will never be. We miss you and await to see you again. Later Bernie you’re still the man……….
my heart goes out to the mac family and i would briefly like to say that his words were always words of healing during times of grief and pain to me.He was a big inspiration and very talented when it came down to turning a frown upside up.I turned to comedy movies and shows every time i needed something to smile and laugh about and he was perfect for that.It’s sad that he left the way he did but it was a big blessing to have you here and share your never ending laughter and jokes with us.We will always miss you Bernie but we will never forget you for being there more for your fans than what you probably knew of.To Mrs.mac, I’m really sorry for your lost but to have a love so true and so deep, you are defined one of gods favorite cause some of these young woman now a days will never know of that love but you do.So please try not to hurt for you will see him again.My love goes out to his family .May god bless us all…….Amen
I CAN REMEMBER SEEING THE KINGS OF COMEDY IN 1998 AT THE JOE LOUIS ARENA IN DETROIT. MAN, WAS HE FUNNY. ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE JOKE ABOUT THE LITTLE BOY AND THE MILK AND COOKIES. I AM ONE OF BERNIE’S BIGGEST FANS. COMEDY JUST WILL NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT HIM. I WILL TRULY MISS U . MAY GOD WATCH OVER THOSE YOU LOVE. “DON’T CRY FOR ME BECAUSE I AM FREE” TELL MY BESTFIREND MICHELLE WHO’S AN ANGEL UP THERE WITH YOU MAN THAT I LOVE HER.

said, Never Would Have Made It. Bernie fought a good fight, and now
I can say, I never would have made it, with out the laughter Bernie Mac
has given me… RIP, you no longer have to fight for air, it is
freely given to you up there in Heaven. Mrs Mac hold on….
There are no words that can heal your pain at this time, but be asured that God is there with you Mac Family.
I will never forget when Bernie did the Kings of Comedy and they came to Nashville, TN. Everyone was screaming before he came out on stage and when he came through the curtains, he screamed and said, “Here I am”. That is what he told us then and that is what he is telling his family now. “Here I am”, he is right there with all of you.

In our house he is known as UNCLE BERNIE. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family. We will miss UNCLE BERNIE tremendously. We know that he is up in heaven making all the saints laugh. He is gone but not forgotten we love you Bernie Mac. God Bless his wife and daughter.

im a comedian andi did a show a week after mr macs death in st paul and i dedicated it 2 him and it wasone of my best shows ever it felt like he was there with me and i toldthe crowd i aint scared of yall just like bernie i will miss him like crazy god bless his wife and family and god bless all of chitown for there loss one love simply redd
I AM WRITING FROM THE BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO, AND IT IS REALLY SAD TO HEAR THAT AN ICON HAS PASSED. HE WILL BE SADLY MISSED. A GREAT COMEDIAN AND A GREAT ACTOR HE WAS. I REALLY ADMIRED HIM ALOT, AND I WISH TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO WISH HIS FAMILY GOOD HEALTH AND STRENGTH AND MY CONDOLENCES TO YOU ALL! ACCEPT MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY.
THE OTHER DAY MY 3 YR OLD DAUGHTER WAS THUMBING THROUGH ONE OF MY ENTERTAINMENT MAGAZINES AND THEY HAD A BEAUTIFUL FULL PAGE PICTURE OF BERNIE MAC, AND MY DAUGHTER RAN TO ME AND SAID “LOOK MOMMIE IT’S UNCLE BERNIE!!” AND I JUST CRIED. I FEEL LIKE I LOST A FAMILY MEMBER. WHEN THERE IS SO LITTLE TO LAUGH ABOUT IN THE WORLD TODAY, NOW THERE IS EVEN LESS.
GOD BLESS HIS WIFE DAUGHTER AND GRAND BABY.
