This is a terrible incident of an incompetent cop. Does this mean it was a racist crime? Who knows…it’s not automatically this way. The main point is this: there are many cops in the US that don’t know what they’re doing. The more you’re dealing with cops (i.e. committing crimes, etc), the higher the chance you’ll be a victim of the said incompetence…SO POINT IS (GENERALLY), DON’T COMMIT CRIMES, AND YOU WON’T BE A VICTIM OF POLICE VIOLENCE. Yeah I know his Mother Wanda, they go to my uncles church in Oakland, my mother called me about this on Saturday to me that the police kill Oliver, it’s just so said his life was cut short by some gun happy police officer, thats why I moved from Oakland you would think that most of the killing is done by people but don’t be surprise that OPD is behind a lot of it and the BART police they are even worst always looking for trouble.

My heart goes out to the family of the unjustified murder of this young brother. The police officers who looked on while their fellow officer shoot this young man to death should be just as guility for not stopping him. Just like if a regular joe was with a person who commited a crime he/she would be charged with accessary. I’m not prejudiced in any kind of way, but I am fed up with white police officers being able to get away with heinous race crimes! To all people of other races if you are not prejudice than you should stand up and express that this matter is wrong and these officers should be punished! If this was a black officer who shot a cuffed white child he would be in jail for many years, but since this is a white officer they will look at his years of service and state what an exemplary service he has given to his community. I’ve been following this story in Sacramento’s paper and everyone was told that this was an accidental firing. The video shows otherwise. If I were the other cops I’d speak out the truth quickly, or they should ALL go down for conspiracy.

My prayers go out to this young man and his family. We as a nation need to get involved. This is insane!!! My black people be careful on these streets. There are so many closed minded and evil people who are still very angry, afraid and oppose to Barack Obama being our next President. Many of them are in law enforcement across the country. We are a target for them, specially our young black men. I lived in SC for the past two years and I have seen a lot of police activity, including violating civil rights; and they are getting away with this type of conduct. It has been an increase of police activity since Obama was elected. Every time I darken my door the police have someone pulled over, and the majority of the time, the person is black. This incident is a tragedy and unfortunately, unless we stand up, fight back, and make it clear that we will not live in fear, slavery, or endure injustice, it will happen again to another young black innocent man or women. I would like to see our influential leaders and communities fight for this young man and his family. We have come a long way as a people and a nation. Many have sacrificed their lives for the progression we have made today; however, there is still so much work to do.

Honestly it seem as though the police officer accidentally fired the gun. I feel that he and should be held accountable for the murder of another human being and the carelessness of holding the gun—especially while the victim was handcuffed. I had a relative that was killed in a similiar way. He was shot in the head three (yes 3) times by a rookie cop and they called it justifiable homicide. I pray for this young mans family and I hope they are prepared for the aftermath of this horrible crime. Cops are organized street gangs with attorneys and the city on their side and the sad part is, we pay their salaries. Mayor Kevin Johnson, ex NBA baller, needs to have this man and all cops involved taken off the force and that cop needs to be put in prison!!

All I can do right now is shake my head. I’m 23 years old and like Pac said “sh^t will never change”. This is why use as young people say F^^c the police. I know its some good 1s and when I say good 1s thats what it seme like. Since this new year police has been targeting blacks. Watch how things get outrage when Obama take office but I’m riding all the way like I’m riding n a chevy on 24″s.

I’m really surprised that those BART “toy cops” have real guns. Without the witnesses’ personal cell phone videotapes of the shooting, this case could have been easily covered up even more. The recent BART station’s videotape of the shooting was very unclear and showed nothing of any significance to the shooting. The family’s attorney, John Burris, is one of the top civil rights attorneys in the country. He will definitely help the family get a huge wrongful death settlement. The officer who shot and killed Grant is looking at being charged with second-degree murder or manslaughter for his incompetence. Grant has a left behind 4-year-old daughter — this is a very sad story.

My heartfelt condolences to the family of this young man….. I know that without knowing what was going on in this officers head, it’s easy to jump to racism because the fact is that it was a white officer and a black victim and reality is that that is a possibility but I think that it is more highly possible that this officer was only working for “BART” police for 2 years. And BART police do not work in the streets of Oakland where they might get more training and experience in dealing with difficult situations. I think that this officer was an inexperienced man that was probablly nervous as hell with all of the new years eve commotion going on in the subway train when it was packed with 100’s and 100’s of people. This officer might not have ever done anything more than experience giving out a ticket for public intoxication, loittering or pan handling in the stations and now he’s dealing with trying to break up an argument involving multiple youths and is probablly freaking out in the process. Yes, he is an idiot, yes he deserves the highest possible sentence and yes he is an idiot again and BART and the Oakland Police department should be held accountable for this. BART police do not need guns they need to call in more experienced Oakland PD if it’s something that they think is dangerous situation. As a bay area resident I seen the video of the shooting and this brother was shot purposely. It was no accident. The brother was down and there was two cops on him. One stood up and steped back pulled his gun and shot the brother in his back. I hope his family gets everything they can from bart. My prayers are with his kid and his family

i just saw the numerous videos of this young man being shot by that dumb ass officer. They believe that he was going for his taser gun. Which is cool but my question is why pull your taser if you have a suspect face down that seems to be cooperating? Also, if you dont know the difference between a taser and a real gun then you definitely have no business being on anybodies police department. The officer was clearly shocked when the incident occurred but the damage had already been done. This is why before becoming a police of any kind there needs to be more indepth training, so situations like this does not keepp happening. I would like to know where all the public outrage is with all the BLACK ON BLACK CRIME. Why are we not outraged that the top twenty most violent cities in America are BLACK. I live in Oakland, I take BART and BUS. The fruitvale bart station ALWAYS has cops around. I see them interviewing (harassing) people all the time. Especially the black young men. Now I don’t know weather or not the men are waiting for a bus. i just know what I see. There has been several incidents at this station. The Coliseum bart station and parking lot is closer to the hood.I rarely see bart police at the coliseum. I do see the Alameda county sheriff rolling up on anyone that stops at the bus stop to ticket them when they drop someone off . As of this day 01/06/09 no one has interviewed or talked to the cop that killed Oscar Grant. For all we know they are letting him get out of the country.

My heart goes out to the victim and my prayers go out to all families involved. Including the families of the officers involved. But now for some facts. BART PD officers are not armed security guards, they are an actual law enforcement agency. Their officers are sworn and trained just like city cops or county sheriff’s deputies. Secondly, the reason why people at the BART stations and AC Transit bus stops are so frequently cited/questioned by BART PD and Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputies is because it is their jurisdiction. The Oakland Police Department doesn’t cover incidents that occur on BART property or at bus stops because it is not their jursidiction. While this is indeed a tragic incident, if we weren’t there to witness this incident, we shouldn’t rush to judgement. I know there are cases when innocent victims are gunned down by police, just like there are cases where officers are needlessly killed in the line of duty by guilty fleeing suspects. We will never know the truth because there is the victim’s side, the officer’s side and God’s honest truth. Instead of pointing fingers and speculating, we should pray for the souls of all involved. We should pray that God be with them all and comfort them all.

Greetings everyone. I am from Oakland CA, this tragic event has put a gray cloud over the youth and the community (black, urban) community’s. I pay my respect to Oscar and his family, he was not only robbed of life not yet lived but his child will never know who he was. Oakland. Wow, I moved my sons from Oakland to Hayward were the victim is from and lived, his funeral will be at today not even a mile from my home, I would like to attend but I am afraid of the sadness witnessed by me from his family. I moved my sons from Oakland in 2004 due to the murders were of children there ages. Murders are happening everyday in our communities, the shrines are decorating our streets with liquor bottles and candles. Family’s grieve, children without mothers and/or fathers are being raised with family and friends not knowing who they really are. It is sad that society paints every brother that does not have a Harvard degree more or less as a monster. For example my son that is 18 as we speak is a honor roll student who is currently in college to receive an A.A in criminal justice was harassed by San Leandro PD walking down the street, and for what? the cops told me that he LOOKED like a robbery suspect and they arrested him without evidence or probable cause. I was hurt because I knew my kid was a good kid. My message is to stop justifying why the cops harass young black men, they have been a target for as long as I can remember. Oscar was a great father, son, friend and he was MURDERED for being black in Oakland. I am upset, angry, and outraged just like most of you. I have a few questions, if this was an accident like the police is claiming, why wasn’t there an immediate rush to seek medical attention. From what I saw on the video, they just kicked him over and acted as if he was a threat to them. My next question is where are our black leaders and celebrities and how come they haven’t responded. Where are the young superstars like LeBron, Kobe, and Carmello ? This could have been any one of them. Muhaamad Ali would have spoken up. I wish there was something I could do. I believe the officer who fired the shot should be in jail right now, whether it was an accident or not, it is still a crime. The rest of them should be arrested as well because they didn’t do anything about it. I am so sad about this and it really, really hurts. We did not know this young man, but I cried, my girl cried, and my daughter cried for him. I feel as if I have been punched in the face by someone and not being allowed to do anything about it. I think that our leaders and celebrities should step up and speak out against things like this and stop allowing the fact that they have an endorsement ($$$) keep them from speaking out, in fact, I would rather support that athlete who stands up and speaks about the things that we go through (injustices), than the one who doesn’t speak out.

I told everybody around me, as soon as the Supreme Court acquitted those cops for murdering Sean Bell, they basically made it legal for all cops to murder innocent Black men! I knew it would only get worse from there on. It hurts and makes me so angry to realize that our lives are worth so little to these savages!

Why is this cold blooded murderer not charged with civil rights violation in a Federal court that would mean that he will serve some real time in a pen? In state court, he may get away with serving very little.
