Cover-up By Philly Cops In Videotaped Beating?
May 12th, 2008A lawyer says the police never believed the victims were involved in an officer’s death
Did the 15 Philly cops who beat down three Black men during a traffic stop last week really think they had nabbed the suspects in a local shooting, or did they make that story up to cover up a serious case of mistaken identity? Eldridge Suggs, the attorney for one of the beating victims, Dwayne “Lionel” Dyches, said that neither of the suspects was involved in a street-gang shooting – and the police knew it – but they initially thought they had captured the man who had shot a Philadelphia Police officer. “All they’ve done is make up some facts to account for the beating,” Suggs said. “And the reason why they beat this man is because he looked so much like the cop-killer.” On the evening of May 4, police stopped a car carrying Dyches, 24; Brian Hall, 23; and Pete Hopkins, 19. The three young men were yanked from their car and punched, stomped and pummeled with nightsticks by at least 15 policemen, as news helicopters captured the entire event on videotape. Thirteen of the officers have been put on leave. At a news conference Friday, Suggs held up a photo of Dyches and police shooting suspect Eric Floyd and called the two men’s resemblance “uncanny,” Philly.com reports. Floyd was captured last week and charged with the murder of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski. Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey and Mayor Michael Nutter contend that the officers stopped the three beating victims after a triple shooting in North Philadelphia . They denied a cover-up but acknowledged that the incident was a “black eye on the force.” They also said that the Rev. Al Sharpton, who likened the police actions those of the officers involved in the infamous 1991 beating of motorist Rodney King in Los Angeles , was merely fanning racial flames by suggesting that the incident was racially motivated. Do you think there was a cover-up?

There is definitely a cover up happening in Philly. It is sad that we can’t trust the people who were hired to serve and protect.

Justin Barker got off lite.had he hung a noose on a tree infont of me i would have MADE GOOG USE OF THE NOOSE and hung that racist punk.Barker was not that badly beaten,he attended a party that same night.There are some folk that always try too make lite of a serious issue like police mis-conduct and there are whites that always want too twist stuff around.Whatever Blacks do will only pale in comparison too what whites have done and still do to Blacks,there is a long lecacy to the wrong whites have done to Blacks.

Hidden Racism is alive and well in America (ya know,land of the free, home of the brave, where you’re innocent until PROVEN GUILTY!!). When police officers are equipped with sidearms and billy clubs, why do you need (15) to beat down (3) young Blacks, who incedently, allegedly had no weapons found in their possesion. It’s amazing how wonderful videos reveal the truth where people have a tendancy to try to hide the truth. We believe that justice will be served and God Shall reveal the truth of this matter. Who’s report shall you believe!!

Yes, I think it’s a cover up.. just like the Sean bell case. These three innocent black young men driving minding their own business gets pulled over and almost beaten too death.If wasn’t for the video taped footage.No one would off believed their story.. The police always find a way to cover-up police brutality.. This has got to stop!!!!
YES! Had it been a regular black citizen murdered the cop would have been somewhere/anywhere sitting on their hands. If anyone thinks racial profiling and racism is a thing of the past they have another think coming or their head is literally buried in the sand. Even if that had been the cop killer he was not to be treated in that type manner. What did the other two men do beside breathe and be black?
