Cover-up By Philly Cops In Videotaped Beating?
May 12th, 2008A lawyer says the police never believed the victims were involved in an officer’s death
Did the 15 Philly cops who beat down three Black men during a traffic stop last week really think they had nabbed the suspects in a local shooting, or did they make that story up to cover up a serious case of mistaken identity? Eldridge Suggs, the attorney for one of the beating victims, Dwayne “Lionel” Dyches, said that neither of the suspects was involved in a street-gang shooting – and the police knew it – but they initially thought they had captured the man who had shot a Philadelphia Police officer. “All they’ve done is make up some facts to account for the beating,” Suggs said. “And the reason why they beat this man is because he looked so much like the cop-killer.” On the evening of May 4, police stopped a car carrying Dyches, 24; Brian Hall, 23; and Pete Hopkins, 19. The three young men were yanked from their car and punched, stomped and pummeled with nightsticks by at least 15 policemen, as news helicopters captured the entire event on videotape. Thirteen of the officers have been put on leave. At a news conference Friday, Suggs held up a photo of Dyches and police shooting suspect Eric Floyd and called the two men’s resemblance “uncanny,” Philly.com reports. Floyd was captured last week and charged with the murder of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski. Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey and Mayor Michael Nutter contend that the officers stopped the three beating victims after a triple shooting in North Philadelphia . They denied a cover-up but acknowledged that the incident was a “black eye on the force.” They also said that the Rev. Al Sharpton, who likened the police actions those of the officers involved in the infamous 1991 beating of motorist Rodney King in Los Angeles , was merely fanning racial flames by suggesting that the incident was racially motivated. Do you think there was a cover-up?
The cops are the biggest gangs around and none of the officers will ever see the inside of a jail cell as a defendent or after a conviction. The court system backs them no matter what the facts of the situation are. Black people need to understand once and for all that in America and through out the world we are not seen as human beings and subsequently are treated accordingly. If one does not respect a thing then one does not care how it’s treated or dealt with.
What’s going to start happing is black folks have to take a stand this is getting out of hand.
With this kind of display it now should not be hard to belleve any complaint of “…was beaten to death by police officers who say suspect resisted arrest.”

I went to my job there are about 500 WHITE PEOPLE THAT WORK THERE.NO ONE HEARD A THING ABOUT 15 cops beating up on any BLACK MENS .I SAID TO MY SELF WHY IS THAT .COVERUP THIS THING BETTER THEN THAT!!!!!
I’m lost for words. How can people be so wicked?
I’m not violent and I do consider myself a peacemaker but when I see beating like that from cops, all I can do is think about George Jackson but immediately I go back to thinking rational because I know we must allow God to handle the situation.

It’s a shame to know that murder is sooooo justifiable when it comes from yhe hands of the police. The same thing happened in New York, now it seems as though the police can just go around killing people. It’s time for a serious change. Murder is murder.
And you wonder why cops are getting killed in the line of duty? How long do you think we are going to sit back and deny ourselves protection from the law? You wont protect us…..WE WILL! There will be alot more cops being killed in the line of duty for this very reason…..We have young people who simply don’t give a f**& about police. And this is only one reason why! Every cop involved should be terminated from the force…It is shameful that we can’t bring these cops to justice for ourselves….An old fashioned a&& whoopin!

you know we are tired of these cops and them getting away with this stuff. we all need to take a stand cause to be honest with you if it happens to them or their family they would not like it. so what goes around comes around
So why is it that we dont have a police force for the police force??? If that had been 3 White guys and 15 Black officers..they would all be in jail..NOT JUST ON LEAVE FROM WORK!!!

On April 27 in Cleveland, Charles Gooden Jr. was beaten to death by fifteen men. This gets no attention from BET or the black community because Charles was a black man beaten to death by other black men. BET is more worried about some thugs getting roughed up by the police because they can race bait with that story. Typical, sad and pathetic.

I n I its full time police start feeling how innocent, law abiding citizens feel when they do us such harm. They are no better than slave masters, they do us what they want adn then laugh and smile in our faces then the system turns around and grant them even more power by saying they acted appropriately, or they were doing their jobs. what if we were to organsize and do soem of what they do, shyyt, we can be hired to take matters in our own hands, after all they supply the streets with whatever. it aint hard to deal with them and let them feel the pain and suffering our family feels. Day upon day they prey on us and pay one out of 1,000 families a couple thousand dollars and they back at it again. ITS ALWAYS A COVER UP, SO WHEN THE TABLES START TURNING FEEL NO REMORSE FOR NONE OF THEM. CUZ TRUST I ITS ONLY SO MUCH WE CAN TAKE.
