Credit Due: Black Officer Took Down Ft. Hood Gunman

Let me be clear.  All  of the officers who responded to shooting at Ft. Hood should be considered heroes. With that being said, however, it’s time proper credit is given to the man who took down the misguided soldier– Sgt. Mark Todd.

From New York Times:

Senior Sgt. Mark Todd, 42, said in an interview Thursday that he fired the shots that brought down the gunman after Sergeant Munley was seriously wounded. A witness confirmed Sergeant Todd’s account.

In the interview, Sergeant Todd said he and Sergeant Munley had pulled up to the scene in separate cars at the same time. He said they began running up a small hill toward the building that held the processing center where unarmed soldiers reported for check-ups and vaccinations before deployment. The gunman was already outside, Sergeant Todd recalled.

“That’s when the bystanders were pointing in his direction,” he said. “And when we popped up, he was standing there, and we shouted our commands — ‘Police, drop your weapons!’ — and he just opened fire on us.”

Sergeant Todd said he was slightly in front of Sergeant Munley on the hill. “Once we took fire, she broke right and I broke left,” he said.

I dont think he’s being an attention whore it is what it is the news did make it seem like the woman was the lone soldier that took him down and in no interviews has she stated she had assistence. they may give her a medal $$ who knows may meet the president if i were him i would have came out to and if you sit and think about it maybe you would have to. JUST ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW. EVERYONE TAKE CARE AND REMEMBER WE ARE ALL HERE TO HELP SOMEONE ELSE BE A BLESSING!!

I don’t think it has anything to do with a racial issue. I believe that the situation transpired way too fast, not enough questioning took place at the scene, and the priority was people’s safety. In the aftermath of things, once everyone is stable and can recall the events in order that’s when the dust clears and settles.
This man is a veteran and a senior police officer, he could care less about being publicly recognized. He’s served his country and now he’s serving his community. I’m sure that is a greater reward than what he could get for “neutralizing” a terrorist. No matter how you look at it, it was an event that never should have taken place.

David
Your ramblings about attention is pathetic. Who needs attention and for what ? They were both on Oprah and they both got attention as well as being on GMA. The female officer never disputed the claim that he took him down.

Great and heroic job St. Todd!!!!! God bless you…

Here we go, if a black person talks about something they have done that is good and just, they are seeking attention. I didn’t hear anyone say that about the female officer. I never heard about anyone else but the female officer. The news made it seem the she was the only police shooter on the scene. If he did indeed finish the job she started, why shouldn’t he be recognized and why wasn’t he in the first place. Just makes you wonder.
