Crowds Swell as Nation Prepares for Obama Swearing-in
January 20th, 2009Crowds swell as nation prepares for Obama swearing-in. As many as 200,000 people have been gathered on Washington, D.C.’s National Mall as early as 8 a.m. to witness the historic noon inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president. Metro commuter officials report an identical number of 200,000 passengers on public trains headed into the capital. Crowds originating from all over the country combined to wave flags, sing, chant and sport their Obama buttons, carves and hats. Many others called home or snapped photos with cell phones to share and capture memories of the most watched gathering for a presidential inauguration in history. Officials project between 1 million and 2 million visitors to Washington by the time of Obama’s swearing-in. The Obama family is expected to leave the Blair House quarters to meet and have coffee with the outgoing Bush family at the White House by 10 a.m. today.
I too am happy for the Obama and his family. This would not have came about without the Rep. putting their people in the hold.
When the other pople start to lose there saving and homes, people took notice. Blacks was born in hard times and know how to make ends meet.
Also, these folks are the people that went out and voted for him. Sorry Blacks but we could not have do it along.
Congratulations President Obama. As a 53-year old, I never thought I would live long enough to see a black U.S. president. United we stand, divided we fall — God Bless America!

I join along with all of you congratulating our new President Barack Obama, our First Lady, Michelle Obama, and First Daughters Malia and Sasha! However, I’ve been watching the entire Inaugural event by MSNBC and Brian Williams is just great with his coverage as he usually is. But, I must ask what planet did our brother Lester Holt step off from? He keeps saying or referrring to what people told him how the past for Blacks has been in America. Tom Brokaw had to share what it was like for Blacks in the South , as well as refer to the many difficult times that Dr. King experienced especially in Cicero, Illinois to Lester Holt who is African-American and others with the NBC new panel. Like Gerald above, I am 53 and I can remember. Lester Holt is 50, the same age as my sister, and she remembers, as well as many of us who grew up during those turbulent times! Is Lester embarrassed about our past and what we as African-Americans have had to struggle through during the 60s and 70s? I believe I speak for hundreds, if not thousands of us as Congressman Lewis from Georgia who remembers those days and are glad to say, I remember where God has brought us from, and where he has brought us to. May God bless our President!

Also,let’s stop using the “N” word, we owe to those who have paved the way for us to use our words for greater use than negative remarks or statements.

I was present when President Obama took his oath of office! Words can in no way present the spirit of the people (of all nationalities and races) who are tired of settling and ready for the CHANGE. It is very important for us all to know that in order to CHANGE America, we need to CHANGE ourselves, INDIVIDUALLY, by getting reconnected to our communities and disconnecting from hate of our people. Now is the time for lifting our heads to reclaim and embrace what God has so generously gave us…each other. Let’s be the catalyst of Hope, Happiness and Growth in our own local communities and then spread the King Dream and the Obama Pledge to the world! God Bless Us, One and All!!
