D.C. is Packed for Historic Inauguration Concert

Hundreds of thousands of people from every corner of the United States crammed onto the grounds of the National Mall Sunday, getting the opportunity to take in a concert of historic proportions. On hand to offer up songs of hope and encouragement to President-elect Barack Obama and his family were the biggest names in music – Beyoncé, Bono, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen and Shakira, to name a few. There were mass choirs, and instrumentalists and inspirational speeches to mark the opening inauguration ceremonies of America’s 44th president, the nation’s first African-American commander in chief. “What gives me the greatest hope of all is not the stone and marble that surrounds us today, but what fills the spaces in between,” Obama said. “It is you, Americans of every race and region and station who came here because you believe in what this country can be and because you want to help us get there. . . . And as I prepare to assume the presidency, yours are the voices I will take with me every day I walk into that Oval Office.” Although U.S. Park Police and the National Park Service have shunned giving estimates about crowd size – since they were blasted for what appeared to be a major undercount at the Million Man March in 1995 – a senior security official told CNN that there were at least 300,000 people.

i have just one question, but before i begin, i would like to state that i voted for niether obama or mc cain. obama is being hailed as the first black president. is that the case? he is 50% black and 50% white. this means that ge is as much white as he is black. is he the black individual that the media portrays him to be? I am black and both of my parents are black as well, making me a black person. this guy cannot say that. i think that the media sold us something that isnt quite what it appears to be. i am also offended ,as a black man, with the way that mr obama won the presidency. the tv media and print media treated him as if he were god-as if he were special. not as a regular candidate. i would rather a black person get into office with hard work, not the media carrying him.
to my brothers and sisters: this man is not one of us. he is as much white as he is black.
I will have to say congratulations to President Barak “Cornbread” Obama. I respect any person who can put up a good fight. I know during the election, I was using name calling, but it was part of the game. Any man or woman who went down fighting deserves the keys to the White House. So I take my hat off to Mr. President Barack Obama.

You post centers around President Obama’s race and the media being the cause of his winning the election. Were you not capable of researching or listening to his speeches and determining for yourself what Obama brings to the table. Further to state that you did not vote for either McCain or Obama I hope that means that you did at least vote for someone; otherwise you have no say and your words are irrelevant. President Obama has identified himsel NUMEROUS TIMES as a BLACK MAN or an AFRICAN AMERICAN. That is enough for me and most normal people. Why is it not enough for you and your kind. Those stuck on race.
