Death Row Inmate Blinds Himself

A death row inmate convicted of killing and pulling out the hearts of his ex-wife and small children in 2004 has pulled out and eaten his own eye. Authorities, who say Andre Thomas had already gouged out his other eye before his 2004 trial, was treated after the recent incident at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas. The 25-year-old has been moved to a psych unit. “He will finally be able to receive the mental health care that we had wanted and begged for from day one,” his trial lawyer Bobbie Peterson-Cate tells the Sherman Herald Democrat. “He is insane and mentally ill. It is exactly the same reason he pulled out the last one.” Thomas had been convicted of stabbing his 13-month-old daughter to death in a triple murder that also left his wife and 4-year-old son slain. He later turned himself in, telling authorities he had stabbed himself, too, put the victims’ hearts in his pocket and later thrown them into the trash. Thomas was found bleeding from the face in his cell last month when prison staff discovered his second eye missing.

I agree with some of the posts, but then some of them are just plain ignorant and degrading. The guy obviously has a serious mental disorder that progressed over the years. I’m sure he had “signs”, but people probably just brushed it off, until one day he just snapped which caused fatalities and him injuring himself. My heart goes out to him as well as his family. Before I started pursing my counseling degree I felt the same way as most of you– DEATH PENALTY…but then you also have to realize that he may have a disorder that is far beyond control, but it is sad that lives we lost in the process.
Brownsuger save all that compassion and counseling degree sympanthy for when he puts yo family members hearts in his pocket!
You know what this is purley sad…its just sad. The devil is working young people and we all need to pray because, its working in my family to , But if we cant learn to bind that enemy we wil become a victium of the same hance crime…Please take care of yourself’s…

As I sit here and read this article I don’t feel as though I should judge or call this man names. As I read this article I knew instantly that this man needed help. If we as a society would stop being so judgmental and start praying and helping each other this world would be a better place. In the bible it says that no sin is greater than the other.Sin is sin. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. GOD MADE YOU SPECIAL AND HE LOVES YOU JUST FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only God’s Forgivness is important.
Y r we still paying ur tax dollarsfor this manaic…..sad and hes one of uz …..which makes it worst …..gone put that dude out of his misery…cutting out hearts…eating eyes…PUT HIM DOWN……
I think sometjing should be done about this and noyt only white people go crazy bu there are black people too

This is truly sad. The young man has obviously been severely mentally ILL for a very long time. It’s sad that he should be judged by those unfit to even make a comment other than one of pure shock! That he had to go to those EXTREMES to get someone’s attention about his severe mental imbalance, speaks volumes about what is really going on…. Then, instead of behind those dreadful bars, he should have been in a mental hospital for the criminally insane a long, long time ago!!!!!!!!!
Another reason that strong family units are very important. Someone in his family should have seen that he was mentally incapable and JUST MAYBE he would have gotten the help he so desperately needed; before it even came to his murdering his family and now this HORRIBLE SITUATION! He needs HELP Y’ALL. Pray for them all, because there go you and I but for the grace of THE ALMIGHTY!!!! Oh, what a difference a day makes… Peace
This is not an issue of black or white,but about someone really needing something. If this was someone in your family how would you feel? Although what he did was wrong in so many differnt ways. You never know the mindset of some people. I think we all need to have a little compassion. We don’t know this man, all we know is what we have read in this article. We don’t know what drove him to do this. Come on people let’s think before we speak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

everyone has problems and need sometype of help at sometime or the other if they would have given him the help he needed when he ask for it in the first place he would not have done the things that he did and would not be in the shape he is now and by the way ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE SO UNTIL YOU PEOPLE GET THE TITLE OF JESUS THEN SHUT UP AND PRAY FOR THE POOR GUY
I do believe in the death penlty, What I do not understand is why there is a waiting list to put a person to death? I think it is too much money being waste on the people that have been found guilty and they are living off the tax payers money for free. He is screaming for death!! Why are we letting him suffer? He is clearly stating he wants to die, If he was in Singapore he would have been dead the following Friday. Why are we playing with murders? Because they know they can killed people and get a slap on the wrist. The only people that truly suffer are the victims and their families.
My Mama always said my eyes were bigger than my stomach, but never IN my stomach. Interesting LOL.
