Denzel Washington writes of child “crisis.”

Oscar-winner and Boys and Girls Clubs spokesman Denzel Washington wants America to pay attention to youth when considering the issues raised in this election year. “There is an underlying problem that we, as a nation, have not addressed a situation that should concern any American with an eye on the future, regardless of party affiliation,” Washington writes in a CNN.com essay. “It is the crisis affecting our children.” Among stats that the American Gangster star cites are: 30 percent of the present high school freshman class will likely drop out before graduating; youths are responsible for 20 percent of violent crime in America; and childhood obesity has risen 300 percent since 1980.

And it (obesity rate) will rise even higher if we dont do something to curb the violence, TURN OFF TV, monitor the video games our children play. Do you know some youth watch 5 hours of BET a day? I love NY and other non-stimulating show deemed as entertainment. It’s a shame… TAKE BACK YOUR CHILD, PARENTS….

It is so wonderful that someone is concern about our youth of today. As a youth leader for over 20 yrs, there has not been much attention on helping our youth at all. Thank God for Mr. Denzel Washington concerns.

We’ve all have heard, “a mind is a terrible thing to waste.”

At no other time in the history of our country, our children have been targeted.

Prayerfully they will remember how “truly blessed and gifted” they are. When you have people who have “made it” like Denzel Washington, Bill Cosby and a host of other spokesmen and women speak out on the crisis in our communities, to help us remember “our children are our future.” We have to prepare them for what is to come.
