Despite Obama, 8 million Black are unregistered.

Nearly one in three African Americans have yet to get registered
While Sen. Barack Obama’s historic campaign has injected a powerful dose of enthusiasm into America - particularly Black America - there are still 8 million African Americans that have not yet been moved to register. Rick Wade, who handles African-American voter outreach for the Obama campaign says that some 32 percent of the Black voting-age population is currently out of the loop. “Our principle focus has been a 50-state voter registration initiative,” Wade told NNPA. “I think we all appreciate that if we increase the number of African American registered voters and then increase turnout and get people to the polls on Nov. 4, then Sen. Obama will be the next president of the United States.” Four years ago, more than one in 10 voters was Black, he said. “If the percentage of African Americans was a mere two-and-a-half percent higher, 13.5 percent, Democrats would currently be running for re-election at this time,” he said. “For example in the state of Ohio in 2004, we lost by two percent or 100,000 votes. There were 270,000 unregistered African Americans. I use that as an illustration to show how the African American vote can make the difference in a state and across this country. So the African American vote can absolutely make the difference in this election.” Here’s how to get registered: Go to to BET.com’s Decision ‘08 and click the “registration” link.

Unless they go door to door to get votes, not much is going to change. Most Blacks think that no matter what we try to do, “they” are going to put whomever they want in the White House.

CC said on September 4th, 2008

All we do is bi*ch and moan oh nothing never gonna change they aint going to let a black person in the white house. This article right here shows why. If you aint never been locked up by the system incarcirated then get your lazy behind out there and register. Sometimes my black people I get sick and tired of listening to us complain complain complain. Take some action and do something about the supposit injustice that amerikkka has been dishing out to us. Vote or Die as the slogan goes…. become part of history and lets put one of us where he belongs on top! If your a Mccain supporter than hey you do the same as well….Just take action or shut the heck up!

It is utterly ridiculous that in this historic time, so many Black people are unregistered. What possibly reason could there be in THIS election for anyone black (regardless to who you vote for) to not be registered to vote? Our ancestors obviously died for nothing for this right … at least that’s according to 8 million of our so-called brothers and sisters. It’s a outright disgrace.

Until we as Blacks start to understand that the only way to be heard is to vote. Every vote counts as a voice, which represents a human being. It’s very important that our voice is heard. Roaring through the NATION it’s time for a change.
When we stand UNITED we can make a difference. In the past we have sat back and put our hopes and dreams in someone else hands and hoped for the best. Then when things are taken away or cut off, we complain about the way things are, only because we neglected to use our voice by voting.
It’s time to take responsibility for ourselves, community and our NATION.
Let the World know that we can speak for ourselves. We can make a difference! Remember our Ancestors, Family and Community that committed their lives for us to have such a privledge to VOTE.

Do you know how many of the unregistered black voters are Jehovah Witness? You do know that they will not vote (based on their religious beliefs).

We can not count on them, but we can try to reach the others

I am ashamed that in 2008 black people are still talking that trash. It’s pure stupidity at this point. GET OUT AND REGISTER TO VOTE. IF YOU NEVER VOTED BEFORE…NOW IS THE TIME TO VOTE!!!

Nowadays you don’t have to leave your house to vote. If you are too lazy or busy to go to the poles, or you just perfer easy, then opt for the mail-in ballot.

CONVICTED FELONS CAN VOTE IN MOST STATES EVEN THOUGH THEY THINK THEY CAN’T!!! GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND REGISTER OR SHUT THE F@#$ UP!!!! http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/678725/felons_can_vote_and_will_in_the_2008.html

Shavonda said on September 5th, 2008

Gene, it’s funny you say that. Some or most convicted felons do beleive that they lose the right to vote. I had to show a family friend the proof on line. Now he is registered to vote. He stated he was told when he was being processed out that he could never vote again. This a a message givien to them when being processed out and it sticks. I do not think it is lazy, I think it is fear. ‘Why try I am in the system already’. I think it is up to the ones that care to get the word out!!!!!!!!!

Blacks still have that stupid slave mentality even in 2008. Do you know how many people died for the right to vote and you’re not exercising your rights? Dumb asses!

I am white and I’m terrified that McCain and Palin will get in by a whisker. That whisker could be overcome if the eligible Blacks in America vote.

Obama is Lincolnesque, Kennedyesque and Martin Luther Kingesque in his Thoughtful words. Lets face it, Those three men are remembered for their INSPIRED thinking and words.

Please vote PLEASE.

Philadelphia said on September 12th, 2008

Please!PleasePlease!! Register to vote…. and then vote…This is the moment ..We may not get another in a hundred years…make the difference now!!! Several years ago when Nelson Mandela was running for election in South Africa…Black folks walked for three days to get to the polls and waited for hours to vote…How dare you not do your civic duty! You owe it to the memories of Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, Emmett Till and all the other brave souls who walked, marched and got thrown in jail for the right to vote. PLEASE DO THIS…DON’T YOU KNOW THAT…YOUR VOTE IS YOUR VOICE!!!…SPEAK LOUD AND CLEAR ON NOVEMBER 4!!! Peace to all!

Bill said on September 19th, 2008

If Obama was white I’d still vote for him. If all my brothers and sisters dont get their asses down to the voting booth this time then maybe white people are right about us.

FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE VOTE. VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE

I’m not going to sugar coat this….
BLACK PEOPLE….GET OFF YOUR LAZY A**ES AND GO AND REGISTER TO VOTE!!!!!!!! STOP BEING THAT PERSON THAT COMPLAINS ABOUT CHANGE AND THEN SITS THERE FUMING. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. STOP BEING THAT TYPICAL ***** THAT DOES NOTHING BUT COMPLAIN.
SHOULD I SAY IT AGAIN??
GET OFF YOUR SORRY BUTTS AND VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!!

kayarjay said on September 26th, 2008

I beg to differ with all of your attitudes. I don’t believe that it is laziness that keeps enough black people to make a difference from voting. We have to remember that there is an opportunity cost to our time. If we have to take off work (if that is the choice we are forced to make) to go wait in line and vote we wont. We could lose our jobs. You have to look at the proportion of black people per SocioEconomicStatus to understand who is not voting and why they are not. The same people may not have internet access or money to justify buying stamps to register.

Don’t just complain on this blog and tell other people to “vote vote vote”. Registration may seem tedious, complicated, and silly to the people who can’t take the time to do it. Maybe the people who have the means really SHOULD get of THEIR lazy asses and help other people register. Make sure people aren’t wearing/carrying campaign items so they don’t get kicked out - help people understand the rules/regulations. Offer to set up booths at work places and churches and grocery stores… Offer to drive people who live too far from their polling places. YOU help out.

shinai said on October 1st, 2008

Kayarjay, I understand that you are trying to give us some sound reasons to vote, but I believe that if they really wanted to vote, they would get their LAZYYYY as$es out there to do it. You can lose your job? How? By filling out a not so tie consuming form haded out by people everywhere you go? How are you going to lose your job if you can do a mail-in Ballot? Maybe you are ot registered bc of the reasons you mentioned, but if yo do not understad that now is the time for change, should we even acept your reasonings Should we even consider your arguments? You can lose your job now because of the eco.crisis we ar ein. Jobs are not always temporary you know. Ask those who have lost it already. It’s sad to hear there are 8 mil. unregistered black voters cpnsidered ancestors died, were tortured and raped just to give YOU the chance to make a difference. If these people registered, McShame and his girlfriend would not have a chance to win. Instead of blaming those who dive a Dam% to vote, and saying we should come over to where yo ulive, take you by the hand and spoon feed you just so you can lose interest and never vote againis ridiculous. Why don’t you be honest with us and yourself, and just say you can care less? At lest weknow you aren’t insulting our intelligence by giving us watered down excuses. It’s sad that some people’s mentality will never change, but they will complain they do not have the powers to make a difference. You say it’s too far, yet the set up placs to vote in many areas. You say its too far, but for some of these black people, if their fave. artist was in town, they’d make it there some how, trust me. So please, get off it.

shinai said on October 1st, 2008

Excuseme, I meant giving us sound reasons as to why you don’t vote.. forgive the typos, some of my keys do not work. Oh yeah.l if its not laziness, I guess it’s superintelligence? Or the fact that we are too busy watching television to care? too busy painting nails and buying nice clothing?

cali said on October 5th, 2008

Exercise your right to vote people, so many of our people and other races who fought with us, died to give us the chance to vote and we are just going to throw it away? wake the f*ck up people, this is a major election, history in the making, when are we going to have a chance to have someone like obama again? think about it

Nadirah said on October 12th, 2008

I feel that those statistics are horrible and that there should be more blacks that need to be out here to vote. I will not just say that they should register to vote just in this election eventhough like the article said it wil be very helpful for Obama, still at the same time it makes the black race look bad because we’re always screaming no fair, but we don’t do anything for ourselves. Basically we look like the boy who cried wolf.

debbie said on October 17th, 2008

THAT’S BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL FELONS, YOU CAN’T VOTE IF YOU HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF FELONIES, THAT MAKES UP ABOUT 8 MILLION THAT ARE LOSER AND SUM BAGS.
